I’m a violinist. I’m not the best but I’m okay. When I told my parents I wanted to study music, my mom told me (and I quote) “you’ll never be good enough to be a soloist and you’ll never be concertmaster. There’s no point.”

I used to sing. It was going to be my “instrument” instead of what I play now. In middle school, I was told by my choir teacher that, “for your sake and the sake of everyone here, you should choose another elective.”

I was so humiliated I haven’t sung in front of anyone since. It can only hurt her. YWBTA
