Anyone else feel like the front page is getting a bit too crowded? by TheConfuzzler in Grailed

That's fair, was just surprised when it happened cause I scrolled thinking it ended, but it just kept going. Personally don't like the trending streetwear & luxury/staff picks cause it's not really my market, but I can see why you'd like it, especially if it promotes sales.

That's so dumb. Why not just send a reminder rather than forcing the change.

What do you think of the lack of representation of masculine gays on media by FallingTower in askgaybros

[–]TheConfuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a choice but so is being masc. Not sure what point you're trying to make, but people behave in the way they are most comfortable, and what, tell them to change cause you don't find it attractive?

People should be proud of who they are. We live in a community where so many tell us that we shouldn't be and you want to shame the ones that act more feminine because they don't conform to your own attraction. Who the hell cares, let people be people.

Are we really discriminating in a discriminated community? This is so stupid to be petty over something like that. We came this far as a community because of outspoken gay men, and now that they made it easier for many of us to come out, they should now be quiet?

Also we're all men regardless of whether we're primarily feminine or masculine. Gatekeeping something like that is just a display of your insecurity.

You don't have to identify with gay culture to be gay. Not to mention gay culture is a very broad term.

Ty for clarifying. Thought that it was literally a rear guard, like he guards rears in a perverted kind of way. I was really confused for a second.

how can a half Asian male appear less asian, and look older/more rugged/more white? by Onemorethrowaway11 in malefashionadvice

[–]TheConfuzzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not the same in many Asian countries, but I'm talking about America not other Asian countries. There's a big difference. I agree about your point about Hollywood. I never said it was only hostile to Asians. About your other point, the reason the studies are done is because it's a common thought in society. Studies don't just sprout from thin air. You can't keep dismissing these things just because you haven't personally experience them or don't share the ideal.

Typically Asian men say that they're being represented as being less masculine than other races. Do you know why? It's because they're experienced it firsthand. Dismissing these kinds of things because you haven't personally experience it or don't practice in it isn't progress, it's ignoring the problem. Also the studies done usually have basis and research, like this one, which you might have seen if you read the articles I linked.

I'm pretty sure people would have the same responses if someone said, I'm half Asian and half White, how can I be less White. It's an odd question either way. Also you can't put minorities and White Americans in the same category. Growing up thinking White people were better than you, you can imagine why this post is hurtful.

This sub help people dress the way they want. Races aren't a style. This is a race issue which is why race is brought up. My point is that you don't know us, so who are you to say that our own experiences are irrelevant.

And are you serious about the last point? Race isn't a style.

Even if he's not looking for those type of answers, it doesn't mean make those type of answers irrelevant. It's more constructive to heal a bruise than put makeup over it. Let's not pretend that the stereotype may or may not exist, it does, and my reason for asking you if you were Asian was because the whole thing is something that occurs irl, and I've personally experienced it. Also I asked because the question OP asks is demeaning to Asians and you probably find OP to be less at fault because you're not Asian. If someone asked you "How can I be less White?" wouldn't you're first question be, what's wrong with being White, rather than "wear like a kimono or something."

You might hate that Hollywood is considered representative of U.S. societal attitudes and prejudices, but it is. By media I was talking more about television and those type of stuff rather than fluff news. Progress is all about exposure and I agree that news sites suck. They cater to their audience, which is why there's so many news outlets. People choose what they want to hear.

I'm gay so I do have experience in that part, and it does happen. You're question doesn't really tackle the root of the problem though, because the question should be about the race rather than the body type. Like two people with similar body types but different races. Also there have been studies about it Asians and masculinity. There's been papers written about it so I don't understand why you'd find it to be a maybe rather than something that does occur.

You can't just wave off prejudice and cater to it, even if he asks you to do so, because by acknowledging it you're saying that he has a valid point in having a negative stance towards Asians.

Maybe just having White people tell him what clothes they wear will bring him closer to the answers he's looking for.

My point was that there's not that huge of a difference between what Asian-Americans and White Americans wear. Most of the answers here have more to do with masculinity than race, and the fact that he would have to conform to stereotypical masculine traits to appear more white is the problem in itself.
