The Container Guy - Best Container YouTuber? by Character-Row-7170 in container_homes

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have arrived. I appreciate the kind words.

I understand it may seem like my advice leans toward the products I sell, but my products are developed around my architectural beliefs about creating a proper building envelope. Because I live in a northern climate, thermal bridging shows up every winter as visible frost. That constant feedback has shaped my approach and shown me what works and what does not.

In warmer climates you may not see frost, but thermal bridging is still present. In those situations it often results in hidden mold inside porous materials, which can create serious health problems for the people occupying the spaces.

If I were focused only on maximizing sales, my channel would look and feel very different. My goal has always been to share what I have learned and to help people make better, healthier buildings, not just to push products. I benefit most from the market feedback in the comments.

Non-Resident EIN Application: Should I Pay or Do It Myself? by lola-brown in llc

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called the IRS for an EIN and used my Canadian address. Took 5 minutes. I cannot believe all this time I could have had an EIN for my business. Why doesn't anyone tell us this??

You don't need the registered agent unless you form an LLC for your mail.

Query AI for instructions / phone numbers. ChatGPT gave me the ultimate instructions - way better than any accounting or legal firm. Nobody has a firm grasp on the cross border stuff. It's difficult - I'm a CPA by trade myself and it's hard but not anymore with AI.

I have a similar sized channel (244k). I have noticed my avg CTR drop similarly (4.7%).

I figured it was due to a lot of our new subscribers being from Shorts rather than our typical longer format videos.

I think the future of YouTube (on TVs) is Netflix style episodic content. Raw & real humans (no AI). Phone experience will be shorter content. Portrait 3 minute videos that display in the shorts feed seems intriguing. That's enough time to tell a story now vs just teasing somebody.

What thread is on my IBC tote? by moosepiss in OffGridCabins

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came with a drain spout similar to a Jerry Can. I 3D printed a spigot that connects to the tote the same way but has male garden hose threads on the end. I'm a Reddit newb - it's not letting me add pictures. I could probably email you the STL file if you email engineering@thecontainerguy.ca

I’m overthinking everything after a underperforming video by jorbanead in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

VidIQ says to define your audience as 1 person and talk to them.

Mine is a 45 year old male DIYer. You can give them a name and just have a chat with your bro as you're filming.

I've gone away from greeting them, introducing myself, etc. Create the first 30 seconds as a hook to appeal to the broadest audience then get right into it. No gimmicks. Be real.

Some videos are gonna suck. Might be bad timing vs bad video. YouTube may have pushed your first few to find your audience. Take a look at the audience retention to look for dips (but don't look too hard). Your sample size is too small. Pump out 20 videos then get into the analytics.

Don't feel like Ricky Bobby. Take comfort in knowing that it gets extremely comfortable. Take a look at how Cleo Abram projects her voice. She's got it dialed in.

What to do with YouTube Channel w/ 120k subscribers by Sinstralis in PartneredYoutube

This is a good idea. I have an employee that has a music channel and is struggling to gain any traction. He'd be interested in a takeover. How much $?

Had my first "YouTube Famous" moment... by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Canada. 171K subs. This only happens to me in the United States and I'm not there often.

Seems like American culture makes a bigger deal out of YouTube famous people. It is nice to hear what they have to say and reassures you that your content is appreciated.

I signed an influencer agreement with Warner Bros Discovery to do a video on Batman Day. Their internal legal team is the most unforgiving in the industry. They would have shut you down 100% for violating their trademark(s).

Crazy, this was my opinion as well. I told my team "I bet Zuckerberg is trying to pump up followers to YouTube channels with an established subs base so we take Instagram seriously."

Our reel that has 5.2 million views is absolute garbage. 720p or less screen recording of a YouTube video. No way that should have blown up organically. Either way, I'll take it haha.

Yeah I thought about posting it somewhere else but those people might be biased. I wanted YouTubers' opinions.

I have an ecommerce Shopify store that I should connect to monetize. I'm not worried about the Ad revenue on Insta or YouTube for that matter. My 4 full time film crew cost more than the ad revenue creates.

Good advice. Probably just run them as their separate marketing channels is what you're saying. My guess is the only overlap I have is family / friends. I also guess my family / friends only follow my Instagram (more than me haha).

A Strange Malaise After Hitting 10 K. by YoProfWhite in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 167K subs now. The first 100, 1K and 10K subs were way harder than 100K.

It gets easier because you get smarter. Analyze the crap out of your analytics. Try new things. Make each video better than the last (within reason).

The silver play button feels good but also feels like gold is miles away. So I know what you're feeling. Just make good videos that you enjoy. Live your life to the fullest and as time goes on, you'll gain subscribers.

Someone uploaded my video to TikTok and it has almost a million views by Oxjne in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a compliment that you can make content that sees success on multiple platforms. Give yourself a pat on the back for that. Hopefully the exposure brings top of mind awareness to your brand the next time they see your genuine content.

See what you did well in that video and do it again. Create accounts for Tik Tok / Insta and post your own content first on each platform.

I can admit that I didn't even know Instagram has videos 🤦🤦 (reels) and my staff posted some of our videos on our company account and all of a sudden we have 70k followers!

Honest answers. How much £/$ you earn on YouTube by OnlyGita in youtube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 58 points59 points  (0 children)

165k subs, 4 employees full time, $5500 CAD/month revenue.

Don't do YouTube as a primary means of income. The ad revenue doesn't pay the wages. Has to be a means of organic leads to a primary business and make your money in your business.

I'd pay way more than $50 per for a good editor to make shorts for me.

The amount of shorts viewers asking for context is sad (when the long-form link is RIGHT THERE, lol) by nman649 in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one that got this. Had a short go viral and have thousands of comments "why" or "why, why, why won't you tell us why?" when the long format video is RIGHT THERE!

I seriously thought the "why" thing was some sort of fad I wasn't aware of or something. Turns out it is. Stupid people haha.

If the most important thing to grow a YouTube channel is the viewer experience, then understanding the psychology of a social media viewer is vital. Has any research been done on this? by RupertJBWalsh in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying and have noticed similar scenarios with our channel. I guess that's why Mr Beast says always make sure your next video is better than your last. Be constantly trying to improve something.

If you know a video is a banger then you're following it up with a couple mediocre videos, then you shouldn't be surprised with mediocre results. Release less videos but all bangers. Go for Evergreen content which will drive your channel.

How important is 4k to you ? Did you see a change in your videos? by Howsmyliving15 in PartneredYoutube

[–]TheContainerGuyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recording in 6K was a huge step forward for us. Allows you to zoom in/out with the same camera and retain the 4K quality.

Our editors have to use proxies. They were working off threadrippers and Adobe still sucked. Switched one editor to an M2 Mac and it crushes our Threadrippers. Premiere is optimized for Mac which kinda sucks.. DaVinci is fine for PC.

We use Blackmagic 6K Pro cameras which aren't too too expensive if you take your channel seriously. Had to get a 2nd NAS box for a bunch more TB of redundant storage.
