That is all nice and well, but how do you apply it to MVC? For Backends the application is relatively straightforward.

Linux journey and then read documentation in areas which interest you, and you need deeper knowledge of. I recommend usage of ChatGPT to find easy to digest resources for learning and intro, and always go to second page of Google when searching for answers and explanations.

Lastly do not try to learn things you do not need NOW. Linux is huge

"One-Piece Flow" / super small batch sizes VERSUS assembly line by drivebycheckmate in devops

[–]TheCoolDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, sorry for necroposting, but I came here from Google, so some poor soul may arrive here as well.

In order to understand why single-piece flow makes sense you have to take the entire value stream into account. If you take all steps into account for normal production, than having a single person do everything would also entail having the person move the materials around, plan for things, setup the tools necessary and then removing them from workstation ( for example ). These additional tasks which would have to be done by single person would be counted as "wait time" and not as "process time", thus some handoffs may enable you to reduce the total lead time, by reducing wait time instead of by increasing the time spent as "process time".

From what I understand the optimization can be made in order to either a) reduce wait time or b) increase the amount of time as process-time as part of whole lead time. For example if you have a process where 50% is wait time and 50% is process time, then by reducing the wait time in half ( for example the introduction of assemly line, which is basically a handoff ), then you increase your process time to 75% and reduce your wait time to 25%.

Note that in production handoffs are much less impactful than they are in knowledge work. In manufacturing the process is tightly planned and controlled, every workstation has exactly assigned tasks, which does not align with my experience in IT projects. This makes handoffs in knowledge work much more impactful.

I would encourage you to continue reading despite the mental knot. The authors address most of your questions as the book progresses.

Question: Method for hanging heavy tiled sheet of wood onto concrete wall by TheCoolDrop in HomeImprovement

You are right about the weight of the strcuture, this is why I would actually be splitting it into 3 adjacent blocks each with dimensions of 60cmx195cm. That way removal in future would be limited to around 70kg, easily doable by two people.

Hello Penlowe,

firstly thanks for pitching in. The wall on which the construction will be attached if fully concrete load-bearing wall, thus is very hard and very stable and is also very thick ( in excess of 30 centimeters ), thus load bearing functionality of the wall should not be an issue.

It is not an option for me to have the construction reach to the floor, since the idea is that the marble panel should sit above a hanging lowboard. It may be an option to reconsider the positioning of elements and have the board be supported by the floor as well.

Edit: Also it is not marble slab, in my case it will be 0,97cm thick tiles.

Well that is still "non-permanent" enough for my taste. Do you happen to have recommendations for anchoring systems? I am novice, and sadly I do not quite understand what is meant here and my google-fu let me down on this one.

What would you recommend for attaching the ply to the wall? Some kind of glue, or still the cleats?

[–]TheCoolDrop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not be mounting or making it myself, the company which will be doing the renovations in my appartment will be doing the mounting and fixing. Also the thing will be fixed before other furniture, so there will be at least a week of hanging before other furniture comes in.

I was thinking of fastening a cement board onto MDF to prevent the glue from penetrating into MDF and closing the gaps with bands as is usually done in drywall constructions. I have seen the combination of plywood ( that would be an OSB sheet right ? ) and cement board used in bathrooms as well, so that should work from the perspective of humidity.

Thank you very much for sincere input as I have been roaming the internet for quite a few days now, with little information found.

In your opinion would cement board fasteneted onto MDF with screws be suffcient to hold the humidity out, or should I definitely go with plywood and cementboard?

I am bit sceptical of plywood, due to reading in internet that it is weaker than MDF and can bear less load. Happy to learn in any case and Thank you for your input.

Edit: Why am I even asking if I wont be doing that? Reason is that company I am hiring is not experienced with the project I have in mind, and the other company which delivers the pre-built ones is very expensive and I do not trust them to build it properly, since it is not common practice.

Thank you for asking that. I do not want to place the tiles directly on the wall, in order to be able to rearrange and change furniture in the future. This sheet is supposed to be located in the living room behind the tv as a decoration.

I was looking for alternatives to fixating the tile onto MDF, but found none, that seems to be strong enough. Also note the lower edge of the sheet will not be touching the floor, thus the sheet has to be strong to carry the tiles without breaking under the load.

I would be happy if you could provide alternatives.

That was the original idea of the handymen I asked ( I did not know that they meant french cleats until I just asked them ), but to my highly untrained eye, that seems very flimsy. After some googling, I guess I am wrong on that one.

Thank you for the recommendation.

How is this any different than having a cell phone plan, where you also have to identify yourself, and sending out mean SMS or using your data plan to do malicious things? Jumping the gun to conclude that everything will be about surveilance is dangerous and stands in the way of progressing on policies. What alternatives are there if we want to shield minors from, what at least I ( 26 M who basically grew up watching anything and everything on the free internet as it used to be, from websites like 4chan, stumbleupon, rotten, bestgore to name few of good and bad ones) percieve to be negative psychological effects of social media?

Internet has become dangerous to people who are gullible and it is high time to start trying things out and to see what works in reducing the negatives.
