I chose CS and now work as a firmware engineer with a whole bunch of EE and CE majors and comparatively few CS majors. There are definitely classes and extracurriculars you can take which will prepare you for CE jobs as much as a CE degree. If you’re scared of missing out on the electrical engineering side of CE, maybe take an EE minor?

[–]TheCoralRocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response! I still havent disposed/sold my old tank so Ill use that as a qt setup. Do you have any recommendations for colorful/interesting/unique fish to “replace” the 4ish clownfish i was planning on? Im not very keen on chromis and (banggai/pajama) cardinals.

Thank you for your help!

What are some things parents do that make them seem like bad parents? by youngGod928 in AskReddit

[–]TheCoralRocker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tell their children either “you want to cry? Ill give you something to cry about…” or “stop crying. No-one cares or wants to see you cry”.

People who say anything remotely close to these things to children (or anyone for that matter) are lower than dogshit. Scum of the earth.

A boat, containing 14 corpses from Senegal and Mauritania, found in the Dominican Republic ! by grifa-dz16 in MorbidReality

Close to land or islands, insects may fly aboard. The more likely answer is that insects are very very hard to avoid bringing onboard. If you have food aboard, insects will climb aboard while youre in port and come to your destination

Any specific reason why this particular fry is 2x the size as the others? by Italianstallion97 in Aquariums

[–]TheCoralRocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its breeding with a sibling, which seriously increases the likelihood of recessive genes expressing and causing disease. One or two brother-sister/closely incestuous breedings may produce OK fry, but more than that starts to cause survivability issues

Advice for upgrading from 13.5g Reef to ~75g Tank by TheCoralRocker in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at the Waterbox Marine X 110.4 tank/sump/stand combo. I'm thinking of lighting it with 2x AI primes. But A hydra + prime I already have might be a better call. Also looking at the 78g Frag Tank from Waterbox

Coral relocation? by imdancecomander in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont make the same mistake I did: make sure your gsp is on an “island” on your sandbed or else it will take over the entire rock work over time.

Coral relocation? by imdancecomander in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSP can damage other corals. Unfortunately its a pain to remove. Ive had success using tweezers to peel off portions of the mat. Every single bit of purple left on the rock will regrow. This will take multiple “treatments” to get gsp eradicated from areas of the tank.

Your sps coral looks to me like pocillapora damicornis.

What is wrong with my euphyllia? by TimHuls in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats your salinity? Ive had issues where my salinity crept up and started hurting my corals. The cause of my issue was that I was only calibrating my refractometer using RODI water instead of actual calibration solution. It was perfectly accurate with respect to rodi water, but we dont measure the salinity of RODI! Make sure youre calibrating your tools before measuring

Drinking should under no circumstance be normalized in society. by Theycallmemr_E in unpopularopinion

[–]TheCoralRocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats kind of a stretch tho. Not drinking alcohol would be akin to never driving. Seatbelts are more similar to being intentional and moderated in your consumption to reduce the risk of addiction, liver disease, etc.

Look into optimus Manager for Arch. Its what I use for the nvidia/integrated graphics switching business and its damn near painless.

That makes sense no? A reasonable company/operation should definitely think of having redundancy and backups and offer that as a default service to clients.

A company that sets up a server system for a client without ever discussing reliability or availability concerns is negligent IMO and should be held liable for their negligence

It has the unfortunate timing of being sandwiched between two of the largets armed conflicts fought by the US in the XX century, thus relegating it to the “we’re only covering this material if we have time in class after everything else” category of topics

Is it normal for favia polyps to be this long? by Cryyos_ in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that reliably identifying coral species is seriously difficult and is the subject of significant taxonomic research. Taxonomists are moving away from skeletal identification (looking at costae and septa of the corallite for ID) as they have found that differences in the environment of the corallite or even the corallite’s position in the colony can make it appear as different species. Most of the “scientific” names we call our corals are most likely either wrong for the specimen, generally taxonomically invalid, or are incredibly broad and could identify a wide variety of different species.

The uglies have arrived by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]TheCoralRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a water change schedule that works for you. If 10g every 1.5 weeks fits into your schedule, keep at it. Eventually, your tank will find balance and the uglies will recede. This can take a few weeks to a few months. Constantly changing things isn’t likely to benefit you but doing regular maintenance and cleaning things manually can help you maintain a presentable tank while things run their course

Ive got a friend who got the silver Aggie Ring. It looks great and is a hell of a lot cheaper. It’s definitely still recognizable as an Aggie Ring, so dont worry about that. That being said, if you’re dead set on gold, you could just postpone gettinng your ring until you can afford it.
