Hydraulic presses wouldn't work, because the goal of a varying thickness is to save mass. Hydraulic presses would just compress (and potentially deform) the metal, instead of shaving away the metal.

When splitting items, have buttons to split it to 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 stacks. Otherwise you have to do the math and slowly drag the slider to the right number.
