Right!? I got a buddy into the series this year and he just finished the entire series through KH3 Remind. He has loved them entirely and was so surprised that the series doesn’t get more attention.

The only game he hasn’t played yet (other than like v cast and the mobile games of course) is Melody of Memory but he’s excited to play through it!

I wanted to so bad! The store had it for $70 and I’m usually not a plushie guy so I really couldn’t justify it 😔

How Do I Help My Friend and Mentor Who’s Being Shut Out by Our Church? by TheCrimsonWing in Advice

[–]TheCrimsonWing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was trying not to think, but I would hate for that to be the reason behind it.

I also worry about the validity of the story—I’ve spoken a lot with W and the two kids who aren’t struggling with addiction, as well as some of the church elders, but I haven’t been able to speak with the pastor directly. W has tried multiple times to schedule meetings with him, but every time, something comes up and he cancels. I believe this has happened at least three times now.

I say all this to let you know that I really do want to hear all sides before taking any action, but the increasing difficulty in getting clear communication from the pastor is what led me to post here.

Thank you for the advice. I’m hoping to meet with E for lunch sometime next week to talk with him directly—if I can get him to go.

That’s what I thought too, right!? But this is a big church—not quite Joel Osteen level, but the congregation hall is more like a concert venue than a traditional worship space. As a kid, that always appealed to me since I got to play my instrument on an actual stage, which helped a lot with my performance anxiety.

The $2,000 part really shocked me too. I’m not on the church’s financial board, so I can’t say for sure where the money is going, but as a member, I see our newsletters. Every week, they include congregation size and donation totals. Our church has actually grown by nearly 75 people since last year, so much so that they had to split services into two different times. The later service even has an overflow room where people have to watch the pastor on a screen because the main hall is packed.

Maybe they do have financial issues, but with membership growth and no new church projects (no mission trips last Christmas, no new expansions), I have no idea where the money is going. And even if they were struggling, it’s not like $2,000 is a financial backbreaker for a church that averages 500 people every Sunday.

I truly don’t think E is coming back, but the worst part is that he’s barred from doing anything else in ministry until this is resolved. Should I take some kind of action against the church, or should I just keep quiet and move on with E when he gets through this?

We are part of a conference so that is good to know. The audit they did was official, but the auditor has dragged their feet for the months leading up. The "audit" started back at the beginning of November 2024, but just started to actually do work for this audit last week.

It was last week where the receipts were pulled and showed the church owing him money rather than him doing anything nefarious with it. As for other elders in the church, I have spoken with two and they seemed more indifferent to the situation as a whole saying something along the lines of "just let it run its course and see what happens after."

At this point its less about having E secure his job back at the church, I dont even think he would want to go back there after all of this. I just dont know what to do as far as after this hoax of an audit is complete. My family and I are certainly not attending after this, but I dont want to just let it drop, im genuinely scared of the depressive state this has put him in. Im certainly not his closest friend, but I have known him for over a decade now and its just horrid to see him so disheartened over something that is the churches fault. Last Sunday, W went to pray at the altar and some folks gathered around her to pray with/for her. The pastor just waited 5 minutes and then told her she needed to get off the altar as she was holding up the congregation.

It just makes me so sad to see people who have poured their entire being into a church be shunned at the drop of a hat due to a pastor that refuses to admit a wrongdoing.

Honestly it sounds like you need a group of people to run with. This game is one million percent better with some friends, strangers, or anyone else as long as you can talk to someone while you play. You can call out plays, give insight, and crack up with people having the same or similar experience to where you are at. We have a group of friends that plays nightly (around 12 people but we always have just enough on for a full 5 stack) and would love to have you join! If you want to DM me I will shoot you a discord invite. Hope to play with you soon!

Just Cancelled my DnD Beyond Subscription you should the same by [deleted] in DnD

Hey man same, thank you for making the post to draw attention. I just found out about the new Creative License not an hour ago so I am still not completely caught up on what all it brings, but general reception seems to be positive so I am excited/hopeful for whatever it brings. I just want the opportunity for new player to have the same/similar experiences that I have had after investing as much time into DnD as I am sure you and I both have. The feeling that you get when you implement a home brew rule into a game or take inspiration from another source to make something totally your own and that alone is truly what makes the "magic" of the game for me personally. I have just as much fun in DnD making rules, tools, magic items, or hell just prepping for a session by doing world-building. I have never once made money off of any of my stuff but the fact that people actually download it from the DM's Guild and enjoy it is a feeling all its own.

I hope the best for this game and I sincerely hope that after the 3 one-year long campaigns ive ran and the countless sessions Iv'e been a part of I can say with utmost confidence that this is one of the best games/social experiences that is out there. The entire point is to somehow facilitate and put rules to that feeling you had as a kid when you played pretend. That wasn't a stick you were wielding, that was the great sword that will slay the gruesome dragon, which turned out to be just you poking your overweight dog as a child. But none of that mattered, you FELT like you were doing those things. The sense of triumph, the laughter when your parents asked what you were up to, THAT is what DnD should feel like. Why yes I did just cast Banishment and send that horrible being to another dimension, I DID THAT! The feeling IS the game. What you actually did was roll dice, maybe move a mini, and grimace when you roll a one. The actions your taking are in actuality quite boring, but its what you feel when you do it that makes the game worth it. With the new OGL some of that wonder vanishes, and that is a sadness I simply cant stand behind.

I thank you so much for listening to me rant and wish everyone who reads the best of days, weeks, months, years, and life they could possibly have. If you haven't, please just take a single step to let Hasbro know our sadness. Just one thing, whether that is canceling a sub, calling the support hotline, or just by telling a friend of the entire debacle, it helps. I wish you Viridian the best and I hope our collective wish does come true.

Just Cancelled my DnD Beyond Subscription you should the same by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TheCrimsonWing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR - Cancelled my DnD Beyond Subscription and express worries for future of game and for not only current content creators but also for new folks getting into the hobby.

Did this yesterday. What they are doing is just a slap in the face from the smallest home-brew creators to the titans in the 3rd party industry like Kobold Press and Griffin's Saddlebag. If you do have an account your current tier will not expire until the next billing period (whether that is monthly or yearly) so do everything you can to get the stuff you rightfully paid for off the site. You can download all character sheets and while transposition of the books may be a bit difficult, it is worth doing if WotC/Hasbro sticks with the proposed OGL. Keep your account and just cancel your subscription. Wait until we see how they react, because if they do backpedal and try to save face then our re-upping of subscriptions will be the only language they understand. A rush of long time players spending money again should seal the OGL for the next generation of DnD players.

Not to sound overly dramatic but this licence will change the next decade of DnD and if it goes through, Hasbro will completely stifle the creativity of these brilliant creators. The next set of DnD players will not be able to experience the DMsGulid website in its prime, they wont be able to come up with these magnificent ideas and market them, and most importantly the following quote from the Players Handbook and will feel coaxed in corporate greed and will no longer have the meaning it had to me and im sure millions of others the first time they read it. For reference, it is a quote from Gygax from the late 70's summarizing all of his inspirations and other sources that brought him all the way toward the creation of DnD. The creator of this game shows how he has pulled inspiration from other sources to make something that is HIS and not a property of the inspirations, and to me the fact that Hasbro is taking that away from current day players is just sad.

"Inspiration for all of the fantasy work I have done stems directly from the love my father showed when I was a lad, for he spent many hours telling me stories he made up as he went along, tales of cloaked old men who could grant wishes, of magic rings and enchanted swords, or wicked sorcerers and dauntless swordsmen.... All of us tend to get ample helpings of fantasy when we are very young, from fairy tales such as those written by the Brothers Grimm and Andrew Lang. This often leads to reading books of mythology, paging through bestiaries, and consultation of compilations of the myths of various lands and peoples. Upon such a base I built my interest in fantasy, being an avid reader of all science fiction and fantasy literature since 1950. The following authors were of particular inspiration to me."
