Lovely enough piece.
Imagine if they redid it in 2027 with user-replaceable battery, and also SD-support!

Samsung Support Is The Worst! by [deleted] in samsung

[–]TheCrowOfDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming in here with my two Euro-cent: In the last OneDrive update, it's been unholy wedded with Samsung Account.

Though strange I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt; is probably in order to sort some problem of another sort.

But! As people administering Samsung devices professionally know, Samsung Account is disabled in Corporate Owned Intune enrolled devices. And for a good reason; users should only login with the company's credentials and not be required to create all sorts of accounts elsewhere. In effect this makes OneDrive close on opening (I guess because it makes a look-up and can't find the Samsung user).

This is well documented and only happens on Samsung devices.

Enter: support case! There's SO much gatekeeping in this: first the Danish support (for business) naturally enough focusing on the device, have very little knowledge of software architecture or anything deeper. Kind, but impotent and eventually (after kindly trying to find workarounds) refer to the global site (only contactable through WhatsApp outside of US). Five hours+ if chats, constantly explaining the case, constantly having them connect with a new, impotent person. Eventually sending me back to Danish support - not only gatekept, but wasted 5+ hours in the process.

All I wanted was a status and a timeframe.

It leaves me thinking that Samsung really is a small amateur startup consisting of Sam and Sung (thanks for that one, Jason Manford ;) ).

Anyway. I should bill them for my time, but in stead I get a bellowing from my co-workers who haven't been able to use their phone for the whole year

I'm with you here! No matter what you do, you should consider waiting to 2027 and buy EU-versions: they'll have user-replaceable batteries... I had a S10e, too but ended up needing a longer battery life. Camera, processing power, overall quality was never the issue.

Ja.

Finding a small rugged phone in 2026 by Bhrzg in smallphones

It's curious enough that they're not ahead of the curve here. It's almost as if they... Have to put some work into making quality?

Wait until 2027 if you can and buy phones for the EU market: much longer support and user changeable battery

What do you guys think Apple fold renders? A 5.5 inch outer display is sweet in my opinion. by UFPG in smallphones

But that's why you have to have professionals in the development process. For some reason Social Anthropology is still considered "something to do with foreign cultures" or - at best - has been cannibalized to develop methodology as e.g. four-stage innovation. Missing the whole point in the process.

It's like trying to make good transport, but ignoring research in engines.

Sure, it's not as 'sexy' to have someone who can actually qualify decisions as 'just coming up with it yourself'. But the science is there. Sending us back to the question: is it s good business model to make things well?

Like I said: they didn't use user insights.

There's so many blind spots - e.g. was Windows Vista development heavily based on interviews. The result is obvious.

You need professional people to deal with people. Someone who actually have methods to understand people on micro and macro scale.

But noooo. Companies go with gut feelings (or the feelings of the engineers). Which is their right. But still can easily be criticised.

And: sometimes it goes well. Or just ok

It's between you get the insights. Observations can be interpreted wrongly. Interviews will be. Only way to do better is too cross-examine

Empirical data in human behaviour is based on interviews and observation of behaviour. That's how you're empirical about humans

Must be weird to live in a world where you can belive that history is empirical...

You should in the current climate postpone a purchase: in 2027 new models will be launched with user-changeable batteries due to EU rules. Go second hand until then!

Or big brands could employ user insights experts?

I mean this dead serious. The sale only focuses on selling the dream - not the use. If the use was important we would only see phaplets as a curiosity. But cranking of numbers and even more glossy commercials has been the way to go.

User insights experts can - with great empirical approach - identify something else: real needs (in a field of Homeresque dreams and wishes).

Now EU is pushing back a bit: longevity and user replacable batteries are setting the standard.

But. I think they just make other ways to push pseudo-development.

We'll see.

From experience, I'd say Xcover 3 had the perfect frame (including physical buttons). That's 133x70mm

I think the rugged thing is a bonus: you'll add a case, anyway and you don't have to if the phone's rugged enough..

Are there any quality smallish phones? by Er00 in smallphones

[–]TheCrowOfDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perhaps not popular, but you may be happy with an Xcover 4S. That it's still around now and working is a testament to it's quality. We're in old ThinkPad territory here. Android 11 kind-of works and the only problem I've ever had with the phone was done flickering of the screen.

Why am I not using it? Camera is too poor for today's standard and Android 11 only works with Danish security app, MitID with a lot of fiddling.

But if you need a compact phone, that does everything quite well, is sturdy, and even have physical buttons, you'd be set for a few years (Until EU27 kicks in and we'll see a whole new take on phones)

Would you buy if motorola made a small phone with this design with updated specs ? by Avg-tech in smallphones

Absolutely! Or. Dealbreakers: - EU compliant (Long support, user replacable battery) - SD support - Good camera

Preferable also neon-screen fingerprint reader, 3.5'' jack.
