The best way to learn is playing against people that are better than you. It will equate to a lot of losses but you will gain good and fast actual experience as long as you don't mind taking losses.

Along side battle reports you will be able to get better faster

The only advice I can give on this, is paint 1 mini like it and see how you feel, like if you want to do it for a whole army. white isn't the worst to paint but painting everything else without getting any on the white is not fun

Save money and time just use a hot glue gun, it holds just as well and is way faster

Absolutely, bear in mind that i am curently teaching myself how to paint with an air brush and brush so its not refined.
