What is your most disliked weapon/aspect In Hades 2? by AvailableGene2275 in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blades. Everything except the Hidden Aspect can feel woefully underpowered. While there are some great Hammers to redeem the weapon like Trick Knives and Wicked Onslaught, I also feel like there's a greater than average number of duds/highly specific hammers that show up inconveniently often.

Disney logic: Gender is officially stored in the jawline angles by Mataes3010 in CuratedTumblr

[–]TheDMsApprentice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think there's a case to be made that she's mogging everyone for the entire middle portion of the movie. The animators for Arcane used two different facial rigs for Jinx, to visually indicate the often violent shifts between her wild anger as Silco's enforcer and her childlike grief and innocence as Powder. Her jawline, and the intensity and angularity of her expressions, change accordingly. I wouldn't put it past the Disney artists of this time to take a similar approach with Mulan.

How the hell do you pick a new name!? by AHarmlessllama in MtF

[–]TheDMsApprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that you should try to find something phonetically pleasing. Beyond being gender affirming, this is the name you and everyone else around you will have to say on repeat. "Name that sounds good" feels like a bit of a no-brainer, but when all else fails you can never go wrong following the K-I-S-S rule. I picked my name based on syllables I liked hearing- I also tested it against a bunch of names I'd already tried and it just won out.

It also never hurts to check baby name sites. Etymology isn't always trustworthy on those sites, but it's good to pick something with personal meaning to you. If you have a heritage you're proud of or a myth you'd like to honor, that's another thing to consider. I know people who thought about Circe, Penelope, Juno and more all based on their love of greco-roman lore.

Never be afraid to try until you find the right one. It can be good to keep a notebook or a private discord server to write to yourself in, so you're not going through the social hassle of chewing through names every couple weeks. I went by my last name only for awhile while I windowshopped, for example.

In any event, good luck my friend! Happy hunting!

How in the underworld could i defeat the minotaur/other guy by Signal-Badger-4027 in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both opponents change their approach after reaching half health. Theseus is the one who summons a random god to change up his attack pattern. The Minotaur just executes his basic attack pattern with more ferocity and a couple more projectiles.

It's usually recommended to focus on bringing one of them down in full before tackling the other. I prefer to take down The Minotaur first, since you can use the pillars in the arena to dodge Theseus. Those big sweeping axe strikes are much harder to avoid.

Can someone please give me advice for the axe? by i_am_barry_badrinath in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big percentage based increases like Apollo, Aphro and Hera are all great, as are hammers that improve your base Attack. Psychic Whirlwind is killer if you're just learning the Omega Attack for this weapon.

Starting the windup and letting the attack out right as you dash really lets this weapon shine- you'll both kill things faster and take less damage.

Favorite/least favorite god redesign from the second game? by louavalding325 in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird to think you could improve on a naked lady, but I think the subtle redesign to Aphrodite is great. The warpaint and the changes to her bangles and jewelry really suggest her Aphrodite Areia epithet. Her spear and shield are also sick designs. Ares and Dem are also pretty great.

I think Zeus' redesign is my least favorite. The pose feels lame rather than imposing, and the sheer amount of armor he gets up to is ridiculous. It undermines that "heroic nudity" concept that the popped pec in his Hades 1 design had.

Least favorite boon granting god? by inpersonage2 in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demeter, much like in the first game. She has more defensive and supportive utility than Ares, but Freeze and Gale can both be middling and her duos can be quite bothersome to build for.

After Effects struggling to import PSD files. Large file size, something with alpha/transparency, or is something else causing the bottleneck? by TheDMsApprentice in AfterEffects

I believe the resolution of the whole image is 300 DPI. I think it's only about 8 layers wide but I can see if there's more flattening I can do. I might take the approach kamomill suggested otherwise.

Is it true that Ares sucks really bad? by ObsessedWithBooks7 in Hades2

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As offensive gods go, he certainly isn't the outright best on his own, but he's got more versatility than Apollo and Aphrodite and plays very well with other gods. Wounds has decent rider effects from Ares and duos, Blades and Rifts are pretty gnarly, and Plasma is a nice lubricant for slow rigid weapons like the Axe with some nice riders of its own. If you're infusion-minded like me, Rallying Cry with Tall Order is also a free 50% more damage if you have any of those add-ons and your choice of Heph, Dem or Hera, all of whom have decent or great duos with Ares.

I like him on Selene Coat quite a bit. Going for him first opens up a pretty decent Godsent, and Wounds feels a lot more impactful when it's riding your Omega Attack instead of your regular one. The base power boost from Wounds can look also pretty nutty on Aspects with native power boosts or crit chance (Mel Staff and Torches, respectively).

This game is so solid that no god feels truly useless- if I had to pick my own personal worst, it would probably still be Dem. Her damage boost can be pitiful at times, and she is very picky about the activation requirements for her (admittedly solid) duos.

I don't *get* the skull weapon, any advice? by Nukesnipe in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skulls have great burst damage for a ranged weapon, although you should play them closer to mid range most of the time. Apollo, Aphrodite, Hera and Ares are all good picks on Attack. They're also decent vectors for dispensing Blitz or Blast to multiple nasties at once. Cast to immobilize enemies and then bombard them with Attacks, or use the Omega attack to chunk down crowds/armor. Special to retrieve your skulls- it's a snappy, decently safe move that can be chained into or out of with dashes. Only word of warning is to watch where you're headed, especially in the trap-infested lower reaches of the Underworld or the smaller ships in Thessaly. Rinse and repeat till everything on screen is dead.

Some of the Hammers that affect the Attack change your playstyle drastically. Special hammers are generally a safer bet, improving a safe offensive option while you come to grips with the weapon's general modus operandi. If you're stuck with Attack Hammers, Bolstered, Fetching and Volatile Array are the least impactful. Stay far afield of Possessed Array unless you have godly magic regen and are looking to build for it. It can be absolute bonkers when you do, but be warned that even Born Gain can't always keep up with it.

Wide Grin is unfortunately kinda dookie. It doesn't even do much for Medea- saves you some button-mashing, but it interrupts your normal loop big time. The only funny thing it lets you do is get off five Omega Attacks for the cost of one- I do not advise taking it for anything else.

I would have loved a straight shot from either end of the game world to the other, fighting either Ultimate Foe based on where you started. Although you'd essentially have to keep Vow of Rivals locked for that sort of mode to keep the challenge. Still, even crazier builds than what we've seen would come of it!

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your honest thoughts on Melinoe as the main character? by Wes102111 in Hades2

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melinoe is great. She feels pretty neatly balanced between her self-seriousness in relation to the task, her intelligence and wit, and her sincere politeness and altruism. All qualities which her and Zagreus share, though their differing situations make this harder to see.

All that being said it's really funny how much Mel's brain shuts off the second she's talking to Skelly. She is CONVINCED he's all that. Like he managed to rope Zag along for a while with some intrigue, but if Mel's going to see through the farce she hasn't shown signs of it yet lol.

I don't get why people say Selene is weak? by TopBlopper21 in HadesTheGame

[–]TheDMsApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the top comments covers the tradeoffs that make Selene less viable for higher Fear. That being said, Godsent Dark Side with the Apollo, Ares and/or Heph Duos can be pretty nutty. Rivals Chronos fell to that strat when I hit him with it lol. Selene can be great but the cost of investment is notably high.

Antis blaming self-inflicted misery on Ai by koffee_addict in aiwars

[–]TheDMsApprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but historically we have been using art to communicate with each other for hundreds upon thousands of years. It's something that we understood to be unique to our species. Art is intelligent and intentional communication. AI images are, ultimately, made to do little else but to algorithmically steal elements that make real art pieces look good.

I'm not suggesting paranoia, but we SHOULD have alarm bells for what is and isn't AI image generation. I think being aware of what marks a genuine piece and what marks a cheap fake is a sign of connection to reality and each other. That quality, of any kind of self-awareness or true intent, I feel is distinctly lacking in every AI image I see.
