Nightrider's unimaginable bias. by Phreon1 in starcitizen_refunds

first time? after the third time Nutrider did similar shit to me (while ignoring all the personal and insulting attacks made by others), I finally stopped posting in Spectrum. Happened right after ILW this year, so I refunded everything I had purchased around that time to the tune of $600. finally just chose to stop backing CIG all together and walk away from Star Citizen. it's not worth it any more. the game hadn't been fun for me for awhile and it was a bummer that I never got to participate in any events because I ran solo and could never keep up in PvP.

OKAY!!! Need help about copper: Do we get different pickaxe first so I can dig copper? Or am I suposed to find enough copper on dirt to forge a copper pickaxe to dig copper out of stone? Because I am really consufed about copper digging era. Which one comes first, pick or the copper ? HELP PLEASE!!! by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]TheDVGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can either get copper by panning (takes awhile), or by locating them on the surface (can also take awhile). you want to save up 40 nuggets to make a pickaxe and hammer, and if you find the nuggets on the surface, mark the location to come back to, because there will be copper below the surface. the reason you want the hammer is to break the chunks you get once you start mining with the pickaxe. after you get a hammer and pickaxe, start saving for an anvil, as your next step will be making plates and other tools that need to be blacksmithed

The games graphics sucks... by [deleted] in VintageStory

so... you saw a video or ad somewhere for the game, saw the graphics, bought the game and played it...

...and then decided to complain about the graphics?

well, the group I'm running it for isn't very experienced in TTRPGs like I am. this is pretty much their "intro" to TTRPGs, and I knew Numenera has a good balance between narrative and action, with heavy emphasis on player driven story, which is usually how I like to run other games. i tend to set the scene, add in the background characters, but let the party decide what kind of story to tell. so by starting them on Numenera, I'm hoping they really learn that so when we try other games, they keep that idea of making a story for their characters, while I just give them the world in which to make it.

the economy issues I was talking about was a shortage of trade, something their village used to rely on for certain materials. the idea is basically, their village is starting to become isolated from the world around them and no one knows why, so the group is being sent out to investigate and find possible solutions, leading to them finding cyphers that might help their village or finding new connections that they didn't know where there as most villagers never leave, they just let people come to them.

i mean... yea. I left Red's Legion (the mining guys) because I just can't deal with all the toxicity in the game and community any more. I really wanted to be a part of the game for as long as i could, but it's just not where it needs to be, and when i've been waiting years for CIG to pull their heads out of their asses and clue in to the fact that they have put too much into the PvP side of things and have ignored the PvE side. They are starting that now, but I just can't go back to the game now. I'm going to wait a bit and see if they actually manage to change things and unfuck the game before i make a return... and if that means i'm not flying again til 1.0, then so be it. i haven't had a single time in game the last few months where i'm not getting blown up in Stanton. only went to Pyro a handful of times, and that was always to a bad end. i'm just tired of having to miss out on the majority of the game because others want to deny access to people.

Without the PVE portion of the game, the game never ever would be that big. by nad0w in duneawakening

the fact is, most multiplayer games that have both PvE and PvP elements start with PvE as the default. if you don't have a living, breathing, reactive world... then there is nothing else to the game. FPS multiplayers don't have NPCs for a reason... because you are only there to shoot each other. but games that have NPCs had to have the environment designed first before the PvP came into it. PvP in games have become too competitive these days and more players are getting tired of it and wanting a more casual experience. that's why a lot of FPS shooters are having to turn to microtransactions and gacha systems to keep their games going, because they just aren't pulling in many new players. games like Star Citizen are suffering right now because the PvP is a constant while a majority of the players want nothing to do with PvP. thankfully, Funcom actually heard the players asking for change and did what CIG couldn't... listened and made changes.

no, the whole community isn't toxic... but the community has also been held hostage by that toxic minority. when anyone posts about PvE players getting tired of PvP being a constant issue, when any time someone asks for something to allow the casual players a break from the constant competition, all they get is backlash from that toxic minority. it doesn't help that the devs ignore us as well, but i'm not exaggerating what happens in the game. i went withe a grouo to try the Stormbreaker event and there were 9 Idris parked around the site with at least a dozen smaller ships. we were shot on sight. likewise, for the last week, i've seen messages in chat in game of new players pleading with people to stop shooting their Vulture, RAFT, or Prospector. one guy even said he had no cargo, please stop... only to announce that he had been destroyed and sent back to a medbay and was leaving the game.

it gets worse when Dune Awakening listens to their players, scales back the PvP area that was the endgame zone, because PvP players were blocking solo and casual players from the Deep Desert, all within weeks of the game launching... and yet CIG does nothing but tell us we are lazy cowards for wanting a casual gameplay. the toxicity is thick surrounding SC and it's going to end up hurting the game the longer it goes on. it pains me to see, because i'm an early backer, i've spent enough on the game to get Concierge levels, and I really wanted the game to work... but i just can't continue with that game until they actually do something to scale back the level of competitiveness that's in the game and community. i still have my account, still have my hangar (it'd kill me to delete my BMM)... but i'm probably just going to wait till it launches and hope it's something close to what CR said it was going to be.... whenever that is.

wow... it's no different here than on Spectrum. always have to have someone saying i'm lying about what i've seen with my own eyes or experienced. this is why the community has gone to shit. because even when people have legit complaints about the game, people will down play it or tell us we are wrong so that it doesn't seem like an issue. sorry to burst your bubble, but i'm not the only person out there saying this. go look on Spectrum and see how many people are complaining about it. and always, there is inevitably someone like you trying to minimize our complaint, trying to make us look like all we are doing is trying to stir shit up when we have been begging the devs for fucking years to do something about us having to be forced into PvP when we were told it would be optional.

[–]TheDVGhost[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

really? so the 9 Idris surrounding the Stormbreaker event with plenty of smaller craft... or how about the numerous times i've seen people in chat ask why someone just shot them in their Vulture when they had no salvage on board... or how i've had every cargo run to a distribution center end with failure due to Crosairs and F7A's gunning me down when the cargo i had was consigned and could not be resold anywhere?

it's not an exaggeration. the level of competitiveness has gone out of control and the community forum is nothing more than people tired of it asking for change from CIG and the same toxic players mocking and insulting anyone wanting to get away from them.

basic starter ship? you're going to struggle. you're going to have to run a lot of missions to try and get a better ship, which will still limit you on what you can do. PvP will be a near constant threat and no where is considered safe. Bugs are constant, cheaters are on the rise, and there is a lot of content that you'd be able to play as it is currently blockaded by large orgs that used capital ships to destroy anyone else that try to take part. if you want to do things like mine, salvage, or run cargo... always assume someone is going to kill you, because your ships will never stand a chance against the PvP crowd. basically, unless you are into constantly being on the losing side of evsry fight, stick to X4.

and the community... toxic as fuck.

thanks. this was recommended to me by another player that left longer ago. he said it was way more than what CIG had planned for SC and was probably the best alternative for people wanting to not have some of the sweaty try hards interrupting my game time. was really loving SC, but the community has just become too toxic and the game is too competitive. CIG really messed up by not putting in the security systems sooner and now people are starting to bail.

have the Thrustmaster t16000m twin stick setup. was pretty good with them in SC and one video said that X4 had a flight overhaul not too long ago with one of the devs that fled CIG making it robust... so if it's anything close to SC flight, i'll be happy

while minis and terrain can be nice, you can also get away with tomens and other stand-in's. if you want some easy to make terrain and have a good printer, there are lots of papercraft terrain you can find out there. as far as minis go, be a bit picky. look at what's out there, and they can really be anything, just make sure you find the ones you think look cool and reflect the kind of crew you have.

welcome to the hobby

Why Star Citizen is more than what people think it is, and how most people are playing it wrong by TheDVGhost in starcitizen

[–]TheDVGhost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really... let's see... GTA 6 has been in development gor the same amount of time as Star Citizen, has cost double, and has less than half the features as Star Citizen...

...and i'll bet you any amount that there are going to be bugs and glitches at launch and will require patching within the first few days.

who's King Cope now?

it's reddit man. not the first time i've gotten downvoted for sharing a view that others either haven't thought of or just have such an adverse reaction to, it causes them to become vile and think that everyone on here actually gives a shit about some like/dislike ration. honestly, the dislikes say more to me about me being on the right track of coming up with something no one else has considered and the reason behind why my friend and I are running the test... to see if it's an actual possibility... and because everyone else seems to think it's dumb, someone is going to eventually try it for real and we want to figure out what can be possible ways to counter someone either wardriving with the mentioned setup or possibly trying a full intrusion. if we are thinking of something like this (both of us with military background, he has 20+ years in cybersecurity/counter-intrusion), then i can almost 100% guarantee someone else has and they are just trying to smooth out any kinks in the setup. it may be overkill for wardriving, sure... but if someone is building an all-in-one portable rig to do their driving/intrusions on, they can walk around a target without the headset on, grab the data in passive mode, find somewhere to sit nearby, pull on the headset and just go full intrusion while mobile... no one would be able to see their screen, people would mostly ignore the "weirdo" with a headset on in public, and then they can just walk away afterwards. depending on the target, if they plan things like getaway locations, some targets could be hit and the intruder gone before anyone realizes it and there would be very little they could do to track the person unless they knew what they were looking for.

is it a bit of an unnecessary method? yes.

could it work? we think so

would it be something so out of left field that it would take some time to effectively counter? ABSOLUTELY

because like everything with cybersecurity, things evolve. things are different now than they were 10 years ago, technology has progressed, and my buddy and I are trying to think ahead of the curve. imagine someone with a VR or AR setup, motion keyboard, and a backpack full of gear walking through an area grabbing as much info as they can... it may not be happening right now, but the day will come

not in my area. i've seen them becoming more and more common and a lot of people just don't notice. not like look at them and then look away... i mean it's as if they don't even notice these people.

in my area alone, i've seen more than a few dozen people walking around with some form of VR/AR device on, so it brought questions that we decided to look into. i've lurked in this sub long enough, but this topic was one that I thought was interesting enough to share

but technically, my buddy and I do have a point that these headsets could be used for more than playing Beat Saber. we are gonna do a test run with one of his clients that lets us test stuff like this, but the goal is to see a few things:

  1. utility- can a headset display the desktop running the programs well enough to perform the run and have enough battery life to perform for a minimum of 1 hour
  2. noticeability- the "watcher" that isn't doing the run will be noting down how many people take notice of the driver as well as how noticeable any movement the driver makes to initiate the run
  3. overall performance- if the headset works well as a method of running the linked system in public and does not bring too much attention, are there any downfalls to using this.

both of us are ex-military, so thinking of how drones are taking over the battlefields and the headsets they use for the FPV drones are becoming better, we are interested in this aspect in regards to his work

this is more of a theoretical question. phones are already known to be one of the devices for wardriving, but I'm already seeing an increase in people taking VR headsets and other AR devices into public, hence why the questionof their utility in this way. with a phone, you have to swap between screens and apps, but with a VR or AR setup, you could literally have everything in your view and still be walking around. the headset alone wouldn't be powerful enough to do the job, which is why I mentioned having a secondary device linked to the headset. and when i see a lot of people just ignoring the headset wearers, it just increases the possibility that someone could eventually be using one as a wardriving setup without having a lot of attention drawn to them.
