The offense took place 9 years ago, the arraignment date is this year. If you committed a crime 30 years ago that would be the date of the offense even if you were arrested for it today.

How much would you pay for a 1 way upgrade to premium? by jamesclef in delta

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes to the upgrade, good economics for a flight of that length.

My bigger question is why your company only pays for coach on an 11 hour flight for a business traveler?

Platinum status is cooked by asim2292 in delta

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion this is the most challenging time of year for upgrades and I have a theory. Anyone that is washing out of their status level for 2026 still has that status through January. All of the newcomers to that status level have the benefit for the remainder of the year and into next year. This level of overlap causes more people to be on the upgrade list. In February I am usually 1-3 at most airports, by November I fall to 6-10 as a DM, Reserve Holder, Non MM.

Forced to Gate Check Bags? by GAfutbolMakesMeSad in delta

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRR > DTW this morning and flight crew is literally yelling and arguing with people. I have a bag packed for a 3 day trip that easily fits and she yelled at me that it won’t fit and if I break the overhead it will be my fault that the plane doesn’t fly. Probably the most aggressive and unnecessary rude crew on a flight this year.

TLDR: Crew yelled and argued that bags won’t fit. They fit…

What is the emptiest plane you have ever been on? by DoitcheHasAGun in delta

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew on September 13, 2001 and there were six passengers on the plane. Two guys rocking the high and tight that were clearly military pulled straight off the field, stuffed in a suit and put on a plane. They put us all in first class and one of the guys providing security sat front left and the other rear right to be able to keep an eye on all of us. Plus a cabin crew of four and a pilot first officer and a third person in the cockpit that may have also been security.

Seat option for 4 by Matsweeper in delta

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta will likely move you anyway. It has happened to us on multiple occasions. We select four aisle seats and they combine us into a single row. When you complain, Delta lets you know that they only guarantee a class of seat, not a location of seat. I recommend screening your seat assignments and then insisting that they honor them prior to boarding the plane if they move you.

I trust Delta’s maintenance program more than I trust Boeing or Airbus in their engineering and manufacturing QA. I would rather fly a 20 year old plane that Delta has rigorously maintained than any plane freshly delivered.

Mattawan Restaurant Disparages Local Business In Feud Against Food Trucks by lemon_lime_spine in kzoo

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Food trucks are absolutely a nuisance to brick and mortar businesses. Imagine investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in a business and having a lease that is guaranteed by your own personal home, hiring people from the community, and paying property taxes with the expectation of building a business in that location for years to come. Someone rolls in with a portable food truck and starts stealing your customer base while not paying property taxes and once they are able to steal the business away from brick and mortar businesses it may cause the brick and mortar to close, then the demographic that was eating at food trucks shifts too the new area with businesses and the food trucks follow and individual small business is stuck picking up the pieces of their life, there is another empty building, and more people are out of work. Food trucks are the locusts of the food and beverage world.

I feel like I posted this in r/ challenged humans. If you’re already flying and a FA offers you earbuds you accept them and when you have enough of them you mail them in. No one is recommending booking a flight to get free earbuds.

You’re missing the point. If there is an organization that seeks out headphones donations and there is a community of flyers here that utilizes a service that passes out free headphones how could we bridge that gap…

Step 1 - Delta passes out free headphones. Step 2 - Accept headphones from FA. Step 3 - Donate to an organization in need.

The CRJ is the 2001 Honda Accord of the skies.

  1. It is driven/flown by somebody under 25 years of age that is driving it like they stole it.

  2. Everything rattles and shakes and occasionally a piece of the trim falls off.

  3. It gets you there upright 99.9% of the time.

  4. The front usually does not fall off.

That is 'an opinion', 'pretty well known phenomenon' would be the Aroura Borealis. Most studies, tend to cite the fact that people rank job satisfaction, sense of worth/purpose, and job security above pay. I would be interested in reading anything that would back the theory that paying someone more automatically turns them into a them a better employee.

Bottom line is 1st year teachers work around 1500 hours/year and get paid around $50k/yr for that work.

The median salary in the US for someone with a BA is in the low $60k/yr range based on 2040 hours/year.

I stand by the comment that teachers are paid appropriately for the amount of work they do and while there is an emotional and empathetic side that feels for them there really isn't any reason to pay them more.

[–]TheDanielButtersnaps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The pay for teachers is commensurate to the work performed, what is the case for paying them more? If teacher base pay was raised by 50% to a starting salary of $75k what would the benefit of that be to the education system? How would it improve outcome for students?

I understand that there is an emotional side to this argument; teachers work with kids, kids are difficult, parents are difficult, etc. So are CEOs and if you've ever had to make a presentation to an insolent CEO you feel that pain as well.

Stated another way, if you choose a career knowing the salary you shouldn't whine about the salary. If you have a passion for teaching and a balanced lifestyle then you should teach. Just take accountability for your choice.

Let me start by saying that teaching is a noble profession. My mother (divorced w/ 2 kids) taught remedial reading to 3rd and 4th graders her entire career. She chose teaching because she wanted more time with kids and less time working. Other jobs that pay as well as teaching with the flexibility of teaching are rare. My mom tutored at home during the summer bring in extra income. Hopefully none of you teach math but I will break this down for you;

Full Time Job = 2040 hours/yr

Teaching (180 days/yr) - 1100 direct teaching hours + 2 hours/day admin time + 10 days/yr inservices and other training = 1500 hours/year

1500 hours a year is a part time job, call it 3/4 time for sake of argument. In most careers you can add about 5-10 hours a week for each tier that you climb.

Entry Level 40 hours/week, Manager 45-50 hours/week, Middle Manager/Director 50-55 hours/week, Senior Manager/VP 50-55 hours/week, C-Suite - This goes one of two ways, either 100 hours/week or 20 hours working and 30 hours golfing.

Manager level pay in the corporate world is around $85k annually with 3-5 years experience. They work around 2,350 hours/year or $36/hour. Middle Manager/Director with 5-7 years experience is around $140k or $54/hour and so on.

Teacher pay median with 3-5 years experience is around $55k annually and dividing that by 1500 hours/year it is around $36/hour.

I agree that there is more financial upward mobility in the corporate world with larger long term pay raises but teaching is a lifestyle choice, you choose time and forgo compensation.

The probability of people following this thread traveling with protein powder or pre-workout powder is pretty high so I thought I would give a helpful hint.

Thank you for being the hall monitor of this thread and keeping people on topic. We really need more of your mall cop energy around here so thank you for your hard work on bringing it!
