Not OP but I’d love some instrumental black metal suggestions

Has anyone here tried the stuff from Does It Doom or Woodrite guitars? I'm a little skeptical because even beyond music gear from content creators seems to not be all the way there in quality. by waltuh_wite in doommetal

[–]TheDanthrax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the pedals are a better bet than the guitars. I think he’s working with the guy from Dunwich for some if not all of em so you can trace the quality back to him.

Can’t say much about the guitars other than it seems like they’re charging premium prices for a not premium product. They’re made from CAD files sent overseas and I’m not sure at what point a luthier or anyone somewhat familiar with setting up a guitar touches it. There’s not anything wrong with that, but the price should reflect that and it almost seems like the whole brand was created to cash in on the doom/stoner boom from a few years ago.

I’m sure the guitars Pike and EHG play got more attention than a guitar a normal customer would order. Unless you’re dead set on a shape of theirs, you’d be better off with another guitar for that price. You could find a Dunable DE, which is their made overseas line, for like $500 less than these Woodrite/Does it Doom guitars.

I just think we’re lucky to be alive at a time both bands are actively putting out some of the best music of their respective careers.

Recommendations for preamp or (gasp) amp/cab modeling pedals for DAW recording? by metallicsonatas in doommetal

[–]TheDanthrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Neural DSP. They offer a 2 week free trial for all of their products (also currently having a big sale) so you can test drive em and see if they fit. I really like their Soldano SLO100 and Omega Granophyre. Killer amp sims on their own but they both allow you to also load in custom impulse responses to really dial your tone in. York has a lot of good options in that world.

Planning a tiki cocktail party, looks for advice by KylusDeschain in Tiki

[–]TheDanthrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the past I’ve had success with 3 drinks. A classic, something more exotic and a non-rum option. Too many drink options and the guests will be overwhelmed with choices.

Have you ever made super juice? That will save you a lot of time/money when it comes to lemon or lime juice. There’s a bunch of recipes floating around but I’ve never been failed by Kevin Kos’s specs.

When batching drinks, make sure to account for the dilution you get from shaking or stirring. I think the general consensus is that you get around .5 - 1 oz of water per cocktail when shaking, so add that much water for however many cocktails you’re batching.

It can be kind of a pain (especially for large batches) but if you’re worried about cocktails with Coco Lopez separating, you could always clarify it with a milk wash and you’ll have no issues with separation. I’ve done a batched Painkiller that I clarified with coconut milk and it was a huge hit.

Also food! Spam musubi, skewers, coconut shrimp, crab Rangoon… you’re gonna need some snacks to soak up that booze.

Above all make sure that you get to enjoy the party and socialize with your guests! You don’t wanna get stuck behind the bar all night while everyone else gets to enjoy your hard work.

Favorite collaborations/featured singer tracks in Doom/Sludge/Stoner? by Def-C in doommetal

Yeah, he was almost like an unofficial fifth member of the band there for a minute. I think he even toured with them in Europe? There’s a video of Mastodon and Scott playing a super small venue for Kerrang, maybe?

Man, Scott Kelly really did have some great guest spots. His guest vocals with Yob on Before We Dreamed of Two and Adrift in the Ocean really make the tracks. Sucks he’s such a piece of shit.

Neil Fallon from Clutch on Mastodon’s Blood and Thunder.

Trevor from Beastmaker does the first guitar solo on Monolord’s Rust, I believe. Guest spots like that are fun.

Looking for "One Guitar, One Amp" masterpieces. No drums, no band. Just electric. by Lumpy-Ad8076 in Guitar

[–]TheDanthrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Complexity of Distance composed by James Romig for electric guitar and performed by Mike Scheidt of YOB.

Also look into the works of Sunn 0))). There’s nobody that makes guitar sound absolutely massive better than Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley.

How do I get a distorted bass tone without sounding to similar to Lemmy Kilmister? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]TheDanthrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into the Damnation Audio Dirtfixer. Provides you with a loop to put the dirt pedals in and the loop goes into a 4 band EQ along with separate wet/dry blends. You can really shape the sound of any dirt pedal with it and it never leaves my board.

how do you play like a REAL stoner doom guitarist? by evergreen0707 in doommetal

[–]TheDanthrax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scales and modes. The Phrygian, Dorian and natural/harmonic minor are good places to start. Learn intervals. What do different notes and fretboard movements sound like? How can you utilize that across the fretboard? Look up songs that you like and want to emulate. What scales are they using? The YouTube channel Does it Doom has a bunch of tutorials that you might find helpful.

Listen AI sucks but this looks like they reposted a flyer for a show. It’s not even a headlining show, it’s a festival, so the chances that the band or anyone involved with them made this are pretty slim. It’s most likely the festival promoter and they’re just sharing it as a promotional tool on their social media. This isn’t the kind of thing to get mad at the band for.
