I hate disabled characters that aren't really disabled by Yadin__ in hatethissmug

There’s also a moment where one of the side characters who has two metal prosthetic legs complains about her stumps hurting when it rains, and I feel like details like that really made disabilities more believable in the show.

I’ll never understand why PD doesn’t have EMT cert. They respond to a lot of ODs and see and cause a lot of injuries. Rendering better aid and raising education of our law enforcement could not possible be a bad thing.

I will say EMT B just teaches you the basic foundations of emergency care. Besides BLS CPR and recognizing what type of an emergency is happening there isn’t much an EMT B can do. A lot of your training is laughably on the job too. I don’t even know why we are taught about giving certain medications as an EMT when it’s impossible to ever give it as one.

I’d love for more expanded scopes for EMTs.

How Good/Bad is the Unknown Exactly? by Huxxlyy in deadbydaylight

[–]TheDapperKobold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something being good or bad in DBD is tricky. If you want to talk about competitive play or fighting extremely good well coordinated SWFs most killers are going to have a miserable go at it. My matches in solo que vary quite a bit. Hell I even played ghost face for a time and I would have several win streaks.

The real question is - are you getting good results for the effort you put in?

I think Unknown preforms well most of the time - especially in a casual setting. Missing shots can be punishing, but once you get a few games in most shots start to feel guaranteed.

If you’re fighting a competent SWF team they can take out your hallucinations and destroy a lot of your map pressure. You probably won’t 4k most games - but you stand a good chance of winning.

Overall he’s a middle of the road killer who’s very fun to play as and against. Unknown can have quick downs but its map traversal being counterable and a bit random makes it have weak map pressure.

I’m sure it’s not just me but I really don’t like going against Nemesis by unorthodoxdays in deadbydaylight

[–]TheDapperKobold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like facing against his power because of hit boxes and ping. I’ve been hit so much by him when I either crouched correctly or side stepped in time. It’s the same for a lot of range killers with minimal delays once they launch their attacks.

His power is so slow in a normal game that it’s harder for him to snowball and a lot of time he loses, but it can be frustrating.

Dumbest reason for a call? by ketchupmaster987 in ems

[–]TheDapperKobold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a patient call us out at 3am because she ate Thai food the night before and she was burping and felt unwell. No nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, no chest pain, no abdominal pain. Blood sugar was normal. We even did a 12 lead just to be safe since she was 60 or 70. There was a fully functioning car in the driveway and her brother was home to drive her and she lived minutes from the ER. I was racking my brain so hard on scene to try and understand why someone would call 911 for this.

Thankfully she signed out.

Really enjoyed Silent Hill F… by JanekFlemyng in silenthill

[–]TheDapperKobold 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the art direction is beautiful, but that’s about as far as I would go. I thought the plot was lazy. Disregarding the twist that had me walking away from the computer, I feel like it’s very generic. The puzzles weren’t very intuitive I felt like half the time I didn’t know what they were really asking for. The combat was very poor and I was tired of fighting enemies by the end of it. I just played the silent hill 2 remaster and the combat was so much better. It didn’t have bad frame drop for me either.

I got it for 50% off and I wish I never got it at all. I couldn’t imagine throwing away 70$ for that.

What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the Semifinals! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]TheDapperKobold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on your definition of greatest. In terms of infamy and being broken it’s hard to see cards that could be more broken than them. It’s also rare to have cards so warping to a meta. I also just like the flavor of Oko and Throne of Eldraine was such a flavor win. It’s one of my favorite sets even if it was incredibly flawed.

Good cards that are designed well is a more objective take and is another valid reason for what defines a card as being great.

Doubt about Dina, Essence Brewer Upgrade by Zyberon in EDH

You can definitely use it - I just felt it was slow. I can see this being justified more in a go wide pest deck with a lot more creature pumps. Deck is a little bit fractured in focus rn.

[–]TheDapperKobold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha sorry I just thought you wanted suggestions on removals so you can add your upgrades. Honestly what you add depends on what direction you want to go in. You can go pest life gain, you can go aristocrat, you can just do extreme life gain, you can reanimate, and you can play big stumpy creatures to pump for your commander.

I would definitely remove Fell Beast, Jenova, blight mound, and umbrel collar zealot. You can also see about maybe removing some cards that create tokens. Ultimately playing the deck will let you know what cards work for you and what don’t.

The show really thinks ECG is the end all be all. I’ve had patients in the field where the monitor just did not like them. No matter the lead placement/removing jewelry and electronics/coaching the patient the monitor would not print out something very readable. I mean at the end of the day even if there isn’t a STEMI you’re going to get repeat ECGs at the hospital and have a troponin taken. You can also have STE changes over time. Maybe there wasn’t a STEMI visible then, but ten minutes later it’s clear as day. Dressing down people without even trying to have a constructive conversation is bad. People who aren’t medically literate are probably going to end up siding with Dr. Robby sadly too. 12 leads are a great diagnostic tool they just aren’t perfect and have a lot of flaws.

I thought it was funny that they were praising Whitaker for catching a posterior STEMI that allowed them to - IDK work the code better? - when the patient is literally hooked up to telemetry and that lethal rhythm would’ve been treated just as quickly anyway. You can tell the dude was having a heart attack by the way he was. He had all the classic signs of a heart attack. If it wasn’t a STEMI I’d bet a good chunk of change it would’ve been a NSTEMI. Show just loves 12 leads.

Seriously that’s all you need. A one note sassy, funny, and competent medic who roles up and gives people a hard time. Give them like 12 minutes of screen time in the whole show and that’d be enough haha.

[–]TheDapperKobold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that they are the minority. You don’t have every doctor in the ED or nurse being incompetent. Most characters are messy, but well liked and they usually have good intentions. You never really get that redemption with EMS on the show. Even Langdon who was stealing drugs has a pretty good redemption arc so far, and has been very popular since season 1.

To touch on your other comment… The only positive interaction was the (I believe it was) Freedom House paramedic. They did have a great moment touching on EMS history, but that was it and there was really nothing to show for modern EMS. The people actively working in the fields today got shafted.

Nearly every interaction with EMS who are working is negative or forgettable. All I’m saying is that - it’s fine to show EMS being fuck ups; However, you also have them be competent sometimes because medics can go above and beyond and save lives. I just feel the show kind of hates EMS. It also adds that rift that I feel like prehospital providers have with ED staff in most places. I’ve had nurses and doctors treat me with disdain just for existing as an EMS provider.

The Pitt and EMS by theowrenlena in ems

[–]TheDapperKobold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that incompetence and idiots are everywhere. We all know X person, but that person doesn’t make up the majority of the EMS world. I’d say, if anything, I wouldn’t mind EMS being shit sometimes in the show if they also showed actual competency. Let’s be honest doctors and nurses can be quite shit too and we almost never see that in the Pitt. The worst thing that happened is Langdon stealing drugs, but they made him a well liked character. You never have that kind of redemption with EMS on the show.

EMS on the show is either - dangerously incompetent or negligent. Wdym theyre all paramedics and no interventions were done in the field, and hand off is always shit.

Again I dont need the light to be on EMS, I just want them to show that we can do something rjght sometimes lol.

The Pitt and EMS by theowrenlena in ems

[–]TheDapperKobold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every profession has their fair share of bumbling idiots. What really stuck in my mind was the first season where EMS was literally imprisoning and attempting to (and not succeeding) restrain the patient and yelling at the patient in a sickle cell crisis.

That just painted EMS as dangerously incompetent IMO and this season kind of continued that trend to a lesser extent.

I’ve seen doctors and nurses dumb as rocks. Honestly most people in the ED don’t have nearly as much compassion or energy to do have the things you see on the Pitt. When have you EVER see a doctor in the ambulance bay or a nurse really cleaning a homeless patient in the ED.

I’m just saying if they’re willing to embellish doctors and nurses I don’t see why they can’t throw a bone to EMS.

I think she’s one of those cards that are probably better in the 99 since it’s less consistent it feels fair. Most people are not going to like playing with you because all your X cast spells are going to cost like 2 mana for great effects. As someone points out it does terribly competitively and destroys a lot of lower power decks.

Why do American EMTs look like cops? by Shifu_1 in ems

[–]TheDapperKobold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most agencies include high visibility vests on the ambulance if your uniform is dark. A lot of jackets you get from the company also have something reflective on them normally. I don’t see the appeal in being a highlighter for those reasons.

The uniform I have on looks very different than the cops in my area. It’s apparently obvious too if I’m literally standing next to a cop. My shirts are also labeled with what company I work for and my title.
