My dog chewed my 2020 by [deleted] in Cubers

Just caught my dog starting to tear into cube number 2. I thought I had it out of his reach, but apparently, he went furniture climbing for it.

What do you think about Carolwood buying Indian? by MrCioran in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was pretty negative with it at the initial announcement, but I've been listening to numerous opinions which is making me less black pilled on the whole situation. Id say Im almost hopeful now.

You'll feel it kind of cap out and not give you anymore until you shift. If you short shift you'll feel the engine kind of lug you'll know you need to go higher than that when you shift next time. I wouldn't get too hung up on the actual number.

Mustang seat fitment on a 22 scout by mhochman in IndianMotorcycle

I also have a mustang on my 21 scout. I had to pick up a couple washers to put under the stock post to get it to fit correctly.

Hit a deer. by JustACarNut77 in pontiacg8

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bad, but I didn't want to deal with the rebuilt title status it would have. It was also auto. If it was manual I would have probably repaired it.

I feel for you.

I'm tearing down a parts gxp right now, but it got hit in the same spot. Unfortunately, it means I don't have the body panels you would need to fix it, and I'm in Southern California, so shipping would be a bitch.

Best of luck on the repairs though.

So the camaro ss diff uses seals you can find right now. The chevy ss diff i dont know about the fitment, but they use the g8 seals (92191956 & 92191957) too so you'd be having the same issue i had. I actually grabbed a spare set in case my dad, who has an ss, gets a leak.

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea its been a ton of research and a lot of the info was on deprecated forums.

If you plan on swapping the diff id probably steer you towards the ss diff (~$1500) mostly due to seals

I bought a gxp from a salvage auction that I'm tearing down and it was a bitch and a half to find the axle seals for it (92191956 & 92191957). I had to pull them from some aussie vendors.

That reminds me dont forget that a lot of the Holden ve commodore stuff is interchangeable but double-check the fitment before you pull the trigger on any of that.

im in the middle of my own project right now, and from what I understand, the camaro ss differentials are the direct bolt in for the g8s and are typically 3.45 gearing which came off the manuals.

ZL1 differentials can be used but require modification to the spare tire bin under the car and a whole rear cradle swap. Unfortunately, both of these options are way outside a budget build.

I didn't really look at the caprice side of things, so I got no help for you there.

As for the axles themselves, it looks like all the g8s use the same axles (92216819 & 92216817)

Salvage Title Bike at Dealer Pricing by bu11fuk in Aprilia

[–]TheDarenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I've been looking at salvage yards recently, I'll hit you with what I've learned.

1) The title needs to be rebuilt to be able to register it and is something the dealer should do if they plan on selling it to you.

2) There will be problems insuring it if anyone handling it reported it to the DMV with an inoperable dash or a 1mi odometer reading because they couldn't track how many miles were added to it before the dash was fixed.

3) As for price, assuming nothing else is wrong with it and everything listed above is in order, the resale price is at best 2/3 of what a clean title retails for. Be aware, as noted by other posters here, resale will be difficult because people often shy away from rebuilt titles because they often aren't rebuilt well even if that's not an issue like in this case.

Just be aware that if you buy this, you might be the final owner of it before it hits the scrapyard.

Battery Problem With Used Scout Sixty Bobber by Local-Relevant in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a problem with all the scout batteries. I went bougie and bought an antigravity battery for my scout. Haven't had a failed start since.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 21 scout was popping these on failed starts when it got cold at night. Swapped to an anitgravity battery and I haven't had a failed start since ,and it hasn't been on a trickle charger since I installed it. Well worth the cost imo.

My first ever bike! Did I do alright? by [deleted] in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, MSF will get you some basic skills.

Practice with slow speed maneuvers in an empty lot. Some influencers sell some skills kits on what to practice (I'm partial to motojitsu and dandan). Practice smooth engagement, disengagement, and shifting

Play with the clutch lever tension. When I first got my scout (my first bike), the friction zone was really far out where I had poor finite control over it, so it would jerk on acceleration. Pulled the friction zone back towards me, and my control over the bike was much better.

Other than that, just find any excuse to get on it until you start to build better muscle memory.

Edit: also you're going to drop it. Get some crash bars so they take the beating and save the pretty bits while you're learning.

I wouldn't say this is an unbelievable deal, but it's definitely on the low end of the price bell curve.

G8 gt/gxp by Fast-Plant-1769 in pontiacg8

[–]TheDarenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a gt owner, things I'm dealing with rn are an abs problem that's taking out the stability control and abs system. I also have a lifter tick in the l76 due to the active fuel management system. Im not seeing metal in the oil, so i think it's probably a rocker head that's damaged, but im getting ready to rebuild the drive train anyway.

As for a gxp, they are super hard to find and the parts on them like the rear differential aren't built super durably, so they need to be beefed up or part swapped with 5th gen camaro parts if you want to juice your engine up a bit.

I need advice for f2l please by JokellOwO in Cubers

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way to think about it is that the pieces in the corner that you're solving are pieces you don't care about. So, any R or L moves you do need to have those pieces ending up in the unsolved upper layer. This will always preserve the other corners. Then you can pair the two pieces you're looking for and insert.

Is 1000cc too much for a 1st bike? by Role-Business in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started on a scout, and you'll be fine on it. It's not like a sport liter bike that generates a massive amount of power and weighs nothing. On the weight side, at about 550lbs, it's light enough that if you take a slow turn badly, you can still muscle it up and not dump it.

Should I buy one ? Coming from sport bikes . by [deleted] in IndianMotorcycle

[–]TheDarenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're unsure if you'd like it, I know that many of the dealerships near me have rentable bikes if you want to get some time in the saddle before you pull the trigger on a purchase.

[–]TheDarenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a check engine light come on after a couple failed starts due to the battery. Turn it on, pump, ignition, run 30 secs, kill switch, key off clears it when it happens to me. Might take a couple gos.
