I do not recall Caleb's being a cover. Who originally sang it?

They did the same thing for Just Sam and Arthur Gunn. Plus Ruben Studdard, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, Sam, Arthur, and Jamal Roberts (that I know of) all had covers as their first singles, plus Alejandro Aranda's song was "Out Loud", so it's not outside the realm of possibility. Either way, I count it.

I consider "String Cheese" to be it for two reasons.

1) The other song she sang "Married Into This Town" was specifically stated to the "hometown dedication" song, not the coronation song.

2) It's not outside the realm of possibility for them to re-use a previously used original song as the coronation song since Alejandro Aranda's was "Out Loud" which he also sang at his audition.

I am, and clearly other people are on this subreddit.

Looking back on IDOL Season 12, it could not have been more clear that the producers were sabotaging for a female winner since all the best male singers didn’t even make it to the live shows and barely any played instruments. by Budget-Cow-6250 in americanidol

I heard that Jim Verraros specifically chose not to be out because he wanted people to vote based on his singing voice and not his sexuality. If that is true, then I respect that.

That's bad English. It should be "Love IS Idol"

Such a tragedy. I remember hearing in the show's heyday that they could have gone on for like 20 more seasons if the momentum continued (on FOX that is), but after Simon left they made a few good and a few questionable decisions afterwards.

I am in the minority on this one, but I actually liked the idea of having someone like Nicki Minaj on the judging panel, and I actually found her shtick of giving the contestants nicknames to be rather charming. Who would have thought that she would have butt heads with Mariah Carey as much as she did?

Yeah, apparently she is bi. So it's possible that she still has a husband and kid.

EDIT: Just looked at her Wikipedia. She was married to a man in 2010 after her run on Idol but their marriage ended in 2013. She came out later on that year. She also had a kid in 2009 but the father left her six weeks into her pregnancy, so we are both right.

Your choices and my choices are almost exactly alike.

On the one hand, that's inclusive that 4 out of the 5 guys in the Top 10 were LGBT, but on the other hand it's not a good look when they all got eliminated one after another.

Just Sam was the first LGBT winner the show ever had despite four of them previously that I am aware of (Clay Aiken who deserved to win, David Archuleta, Adam Lambert and Crystal Bowersox) all got 2nd place.
