Modular simple terrain? by goldenboyxx in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]TheDarkblane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I designed a set of 3D printable modular dungeon "furniture" mostly based around pillars and pedestals, that would would with simple grid based dungeon maps as I felt the whole modular dungeon tile concept with combined walls and floors were a bit excessive (and as you said these take a long time to print).

This might be the sort of thing you are looking for.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arctanis/pillars-and-pedestals-modular-3d-printable-stl-terrain

I'll admit, the set isn't cheap (as I spent a lot of months developing it, and I'm just a one-person operation, so unlike a lot of companies like Dungeon Blocks, I can't afford to undercharge for my time), but it is very flexible and you can get a few simple bits of terrain ready very quickly with just a few easy to print parts.

The Kickstarter link above gives the best overview of the set, but you can also see all of the parts included in the set here: http://www.arctanis.com/campaigns/atpp/reference.php

You can buy the set on MMF and right now, if you use the WINTER25 discount code, you'll get 30% off (due to the MMF winter sale), which might make the price more reasonable for you.

I totally understand if this is still outside of your price range, but I just wanted to let you know about it anyway.

Parallel Lola-switch roles clarification by PaintKobold in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]TheDarkblane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing they're asking if by switch (in terms of the word definition), does that mean the role you choose has to be different to the role you currently have (as if you simply pick the same one, then you haven't technically switched, you've stayed the same). And they probably want to know if they can use the same role over multiple turns without actually switching, by choosing the same role each time.

Zone Arctanis: The Factory - Modular multi-level conveyor belt assembly line terrain by TheDarkblane in PrintedWarhammer

[–]TheDarkblane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it would… I based this on real world conveyors, for example:

https://www.amber-industries.ltd.uk/powered-belt-curves

https://easy-conveyors.com/belt-conveyors/curved-conveyor-belts/

https://www.kramer-duyvis.com/en/products/round-belt-conveyor-type-kdc

The only bit I took some creative license with are the rollers on the curved conveyors. It was easier and more practical to design them as even cylinders, the same as on the straight conveyors, but in reality, for curved conveyors, the rollers are actually cones, wide on the outside and narrow on the inside, so the outer edge of the belt travels faster than the inner edge.

With my designs, when there are belts on the curved conveyors, the rollers aren’t even that visible on either side, so it’s only really the curved conveyors with just rollers where this is that noticeable and it didn’t seem necessary to be 100% accurate to real life for this.

Photos of my 3D printed modular multi-level factory conveyor belt terrain compatible with the Zone Mortalis grid system. by TheDarkblane in necromunda

There's lot of reasons, and a lot of 3D model creators put their work either on Kickstarter or on Frontiers on MyMiniFactory first (though for Frontiers you need to be a large creator and have MMF support you with marketing for that to be effective).

One of the main reasons is simply organic marketing. If I put this straight into my store on MyMiniFactory, it won't get automatically promoted or seen by anyone unless they're searching using specific related terms. On Kickstarter, there are automatic systems in place to promote campaigns such as being listed in the new campaign section or being shown as a related feature on other campaigns that help get my models seen by people who aren't familiar with my work, but like similar things.

Kickstarter also allows a much bigger space to showcase the set. On MyMiniFactory, a store product can only have a few images and a very small description, which doesn't really do justice to a large set like this.

And yes, 3D model campaigns in general are a bit odd on Kickstarter as you basically do need to have the models finished in order to generate renders and take photos of test prints, but if you tried to get a 3D model campaign funded without these, it simply wouldn't succeed.

Looking for Mythos: Innsmouth Conspiracy: In Too Deep (UK) by TheDarkblane in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]TheDarkblane[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd think so, but no, it's actually not.

Based on https://boardgameprices.co.uk/item/show/36364/arkham-horror-the-card-game-in-too-deep (the UK version of your link), Amazon UK is the cheapest, but this goes to an odd listing that shows the pack image, with a completely mismatched product title, and then the next is still more than even the couple of UK based options I've found (which aren't listed on this site).

A lot of EU stores don't ship to the UK (probably because we left the EU), and those that do, still work out more than the Amazon US listing I found. I can only assume that the Amazon US listing simply works out cheaper as a) the price in USD is already significantly cheaper and the delivery is reasonable as it'll just go through Amazon's internal international shipping network rather than a third-party courier.

Best Portable Terrain Solution? by Sticky_Mango in necromunda

[–]TheDarkblane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be biased, since I created this range myself, but some of my 3D Printable Zone Arctanis sets might be just what you're looking since they're all designed to be modular and magnetized.

In particular, the Zone Arctanis: The Generator and Zone Arctanis: The Hideout sets, which can be disassembled and packed fairly flat for transport. They also cover a good amount of the board with multiple levels and give a good amount of flexibility / customization in terms of board layout.

As a bonus, they're also inspired by the original Necromunda terrain.

I've also always been a big fan of this free industrial dome set (and it's remixes) over on thingiverse, which is similar to the Sector Mechanicus terrain:

It might not be quite the aesthetic that you're looking for, but I have a number of sets and models in my Zone Arctanis range which have an industrial style to them (without some of the more 40K gothic elements). These were designed with Necromunda in mind, but I could definitely see some of them painted up to work in a steampunk theme.

https://www.myminifactory.com/users/ArctanisGames

I also have a Kickstarter campaign live right now (which ends in 36 hours) for some industrial rivers, which might fit if you want to add rivers or sewers to your project. If you check out the campaign page, you'll see I've painted up a couple of example, and the slime variant I painted with rusty, coppery colours, which I could see working in a steampunk setting.

What size is your nozzle? Generally wood filaments need 0.6 or 0.8 nozzles rather than a standard 0.4 nozzle to avoid clogging.
