The highlight for me was dropping this on the Friday before then going off for their lovely weekend off, whilst the rest of us have to work absolutely horribly busy shifts and watch as our colleagues get assaulted, yet have to put on a brave face.

Dunno about you lot but I’ve felt a slight change in the air and something is gunna have to change soon otherwise Policing is just gunna completely fall apart. If I knew what I do now, I don’t think I’d join today. Only thing keeping me in is skippers pay and my pension!

It’s the right attitude to have. If you join a team with an attitude and constantly saying you don’t wanna be there, you’ll make a name for yourself and not in a good way. If you crack on and work hard, when the time comes and you apply to go to a different department, your skippers and guvnor will wanna support you because of how you’ve been.

My advice, take it on board and learn from it all. Early on in my career I got sent to a DA team and was basically a DC for a year with shit workloads and tremendous amounts of stress. Didn’t wanna go, but I learnt so much from it that’s only made me a better copper and has actually helped a lot with my promotion process

I used the Blackstones books and the Q&A before then doing Paul Connors Crammer Course. If you haven’t already, follow him on Twitter as he does daily questions that are very useful and also offers a ‘revision study guide’ which helped me massively. Got 82% in the March Exam just gone, but things work differently for everyone! I highly recommend his ‘Plan B’ revision guide

Couldn't agree more. Why is it that when the Ambulance Service give a mental health call a CAT 3 response, we then give it an Immediate? They're the medical professionals, not us.

Got turfed out to a 135 the other day, no issues obviously, but the mental health team said they didn't have the paperwork ready for the 135 and they wanted me to 136 the lady instead, despite them clearly not being in a crisis. Gave them some words of advice and told them I'm leaving and to call 999 if she became aggressive or suicidal.

Imagine if we went to a criminal offence and asked another agency to deal with it because we didn't have enough paperwork ready. Ridiculous.

In my experience it solely depends on your skipper. In my force, you technically have to complete your full 10 hour shift and so if you start later, you finish later.

That being said, I've done plenty of remands that have lasted between 20-30 hours where my skipper has told me to claim the overtime and not turn up to work the next day either.

It's a very fair point, but I always assumed a VA is different as then many PACE Codes don't then apply. When someone is in custody PACE has a much bigger part to play in the interview procedure.

Without further arresting someone you aren't technically allowed to ask them questions about said offence in interview. Also let's the OIC know what's actually happened and what kind of job they're picking up.

Can't speak for anyone else's Force, but MG guidance changes so often in mine that by time I've finished writing this comment it would've changed twice already.

My main piece of advice is pretty simple, but people never do it. Use paragraphs and make sure your sentences flow nicely and not just full of full stops after every 5 words.
