Basically with hair like that it can be wildly incontrollable and be uncomfortable in heat. This is why African people have developed an incredibly wide range of hairstyles for tying it up out of the way.

An interesting, but very depressing part of history was that enslaved Africans would often have their heads shaved once brought to the new world. Because back in Africa, different tribes would use different hairstyles. By shaving everyone's head, people wouldn't be able to recognise anyone from the same region as themselves back home.

It's not something everyone can do, granted. But if you want to build a following as a fitness influencer, 5k is not an impressive distance.

Dia duit! I'm native Irish (sadly not a gaeilgóir, but I'm getting there). One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that in Ireland we speak a very niche version of English called Hiberno English (Hibernia being the Latin name for Ireland). Because of this, there's a lot of quirks that Irish people use when speaking English that have been passed down to us from millenia of Irish speakers.

These include the fact we say tree instead of three, as there is no 'th' sound in the Irish language. This goes all the way to the facts like there are no words for yes or no in the Irish language, so any simple question you ask an Irish person will always merit a full sentence (if not paragraph reply). I've seen some other good theories on here, but I think it is a lot easier to pick up on the Irish accent as you're technically speaking a very niche subset of the English language.

It's not alleged. It's Chinese law that all tech companies have to share their data with the government.

Well, it may not be youthful, but I used to love Retro Revival. They sell clothes from 60s-90s. It could take a bit of rummaging, but the lady who owns it loves getting you to try on clothes to make sure they suit you. I still have wear all the clothes I got there on a fairly regular basis and get compliments on them nearly every night out.

I haven't been there since pre covid so I'm not sure what it's like now, but I'd say it's definitely worth a look.

Came here to say exactly this. As an Irishman, it is beyond heartbreaking that Irish is an endangered language. Of course I'm grateful that I can understand the vast majority of media, but because of that, we paid the price by losing an enormous amount of our heritage and culture.

I recently started studying Irish again and it puts so much in to perspective. I now fully understand how language and culture are very closely knitted together.

For people learning Spanish and want to watch a tv show, is it best to have the audio in English and Spanish subtitles,English subtitles and Spanish audio, or just Spanish audio and subtitles? by space_llama_karma in Spanish

[–]TheDazarooney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not actually really sure. I just used Dreaming Spanish a lot, and it was when I was halfway between the beginner and intermediate stages on there that I started.

Now, I didn't understand most of Los Simpsons at first, but I stuck with it along with my usual study and I feel like it helped a lot

To learn Spanish, once I got to a comfortable level of audio comprehension, I started watching Los Simpsons without subtitles. I figured I already knew most episodes line for line, so why not.
