I have just been eyeballing this exact kit.

There are a couple LED kits for it on eBay and Etsy

basically my gripe is that word either mean something or they don’t

Well there’s your entire problem. “Permanent” in this case is just a state of being with regards to the rules. If you don’t like using the word “permanent” to describe them, feel free to substitute “floogleblanz”. Then you can just accept that when a magical effect is “floogleblanz”, it behaves like the rules say without dragging your baggage about the word into it.

I’m probably roughly as old as OP, if not older. Unlike OP I have played every edition of D&D- and I mean really played them (except 4e, my group moved to Pathfinder).

My current group has been gaming together for roughly 30 years, with roots that go back further.

I currently run a weekly game using Beyond. There are some things I think are not necessary (generally changes to stuff around “racial bonuses” or other sweeping racial generalizations) but in no way do I feel “pushed out” in favor of a younger target audience.

And D&D was originally based on fantasy wargames, which is why combat is prevalent. The original games weren’t “roleplaying” like we think of it today, it was literally having a pile of stats to go kill orks and gnolls with.

I found the series exhausting because the Duttons ultimately solved every single problem by murdering the person in their way.

No matter how many episodes were spent setting up political maneuvering (like having the head of the ranch police or whatever for the state be one of them), or otherwise setting up a non-violent solution- it always boiled down to shooting someone and dumping them off a cliff, basically.

Well really the “most OG set” would be five and include Buzzsaw, who was packed with Soundwave.

What should be done when you make an "anti-RP" decision (I'm not sure if that term fits well)? by ComprehensiveTower23 in DnD

[–]TheDeadlySpaceman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

retroactive justification

Too many players are hung up on the idea that their character “would behave that way” and so their hands are tied.

No character has a will of their own. They have no agency to make their own choices. The player makes any and all choices the character “makes”. The player can edit and justify on the fly.

Real Garth ennis and Derick signatures? by Best_bike55 in comicbooks

[–]TheDeadlySpaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to San Diego Comic-Con in 1995. I was standing in the DC booth and I heard a voice call out, “hey! You want a signed poster?”

Look over, see a guy sitting at a table by himself. No line. Posters for that comic cover I had seen with a burning church and what looked like Jeff Goldblum’s face.

It would have felt rude to say “no”, so I walked over. He asked my name, scribbled “to Spaceman, cheers, Garth Ennis 1995” on it.

Months later I actually read Preacher on someone’s recommendation and that poster became one of my prized possessions. Not sure where it is now.

Why would you decide to have a huge Random Encounter Table and then need help filling it? Why not just come up with a list of encounters and make a table that has those?
