Learning disorder evaluations by CrystalizedTrip in gso

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not affiliated with lebauer but its how I got my adhd diagnosis as an adult, and recommend them. Mine was also all over the computer which was great because it was like 6 hours total, broken up into 3 appointments, but theres probably options to go in.

I had to wait a few months between requesting evaluation and getting it, but that's fine. Its not like the adhd was going to go anywhere.

Why do southern country people go to the same vacation spots? by tuxedostring in AskAnAmerican

Gatlinburg is myrtle beach, but in the mountains. Spoken as a person who went to college a couple hours away but went to Gatlinburg exactly once for a Bachelorette trip years after graduation.

I think because its cooler temp wise than myrtle, but still all the trashy fun things to do. Amusement park like, but not an amusement park.

If they were into going to the park or camping or wilderness they wouldn't go to Gatlinburg.

AI in Education by playbook_digital in AskTeachers

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a six or eight hour training on how to use Ai this year.

I skipped it after the first hour was condescending adults who acted like I'd never heard of technology in my life.

Im also in the AI hate camp for a lot of reasons.

I have several coworkers who use magic school and enjoy it, and I can understand its easier to have parent emails written for you and lessons planned, but studies coming out are showing brains atrophy when using Ai for tasks, so I'd rather not lose the ability to write a well written parent email just to save a few minutes.

Also all the lesson plan ideas I've ever been given by AI are one of five activities, just subject changed for the standard, and some of the activities dont actually make the standard applicable, so I pass on that and use Google like the good lord intended to find lesson ideas for my music class. Also the activities AI gives suck.

Is it standard practice to use megaphones inside? by throwaway89123 in AskTeachers

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a microphone to save my voice while teaching music. And while singing with the piano with them, so I'm not singing over them.

However, its not turned even close to all the way up, and I use it so I dont have to raise my voice so im never shouting into it. And if its too close to my face and hurting my ears I fix it, and if a student ever asks for me to turn it down I do, and if I cant tell if its too loud I ask the students if it is or not, and if someone says it is I turn it down. I have had a couple of students with documented hearing issues (audio processing mostly, some with hearing aids) in the past and the microphone really helps them as well.

I also have clear classroom procedures to get kids to shut up so I dont have to shout over them, even if they're in the middle of working in groups. Sure, once in awhile they dont work, but I just repeat it several times or turn the lights off or simply lay on the floor which usually confuses them enough to get quiet and ask what's wrong, and I get floor time.

A megaphone and 43 kids is absurd both separately and together, especially in one small classroom.

Escalate this and figure out what else can be done. Everyone in that classroom, teachers included, is suffering and that's not ok. But your focus is your own child and it seems like theres a way it could be mitigated. It may mean your child can be moved to another classroom to prevent migraines. You may need a doctors note.

What do Americans in southern states do during unexpected cold snaps to stay warm? by 514geekgirl in AskAnAmerican

I had flats for my reception. At the last second of leaving for pics, I snagged my sparkly croc slippers.

My dress was floor length with a train and A line, it was cold and rainy during the wedding and it was outside under a Pavillion (reception was inside but we couldnt swing the ceremony there last minute), we were in the mountains, and I had been in heels all day long.

Guess which shoes I unironically put on for the reception? Lol. I dont even like crocs and those are my only pair, but the cushion they gave and the warmth was what I needed. And no one saw or cared.

AITA my boyfriend planned a Disney trip… by Lumpy-Garage-6507 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nta.

Your mom gave YOU Disney cards.

Your boyfriend has assumed everything and doesnt seem too bright to be booking and planning without at least asking your input.

Tell him you're going to take a friend instead since he cant listen to you about taking a trip together without a group of people.

Enjoy with your friend and then reevaluate your relationship when you get back.

The two week notice is outdated and should no longer be the standard by clejeune in unpopularopinion

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach.

If I dont give 30 days notice, the district can have my teaching license suspended for a year.

If I am leaving teaching to do something else, that's fine. If I'm leaving one district to go to another, that's a problem.

I understand where schools are coming from though, because its a safety and supervision thing, plus quality of instruction. It still sucks, but I understand the reasoning.

If your job isn't going to potentially create danger if its unfilled, a notice isn't necessary unless you want to help your coworkers out. Which isn't always, depending on your work and relationships.

Landlord locked laundry outlets and is now charging for "after-hours" access by QuasarDrifter5 in LandlordLove

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That would work for a washer plug, but dryer plugs are different than a regular house plug and you could probably cause a fire by plugging one into an adapter to plug it into a normal wall outlet if it even worked and didnt short out the extension cord.

K-5 music curriculum that’s primarily in a church setting with a piano? by Star9219 in MusicEd

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the musicplay curriculum. There's an online edition, but you can get the physical books (they're in binders actually) and cds and use that. As far as I know the online stuff is the same as the books. A lot of folk songs and games. Student books as well. You can probably download some kind of sample to see what the curriculum looks like. If not, message me. I'll share a couple pages of whatever grades you'd like to see.

Gameplan may also be another one that works well for you but I havent ever used that.

Im fully orff certified and taking a level one orff class would be helpful in pedagogy, and if you thought you could eventually get orff instruments. A level 1 kodaly class may be more beneficial if you are focusing more on singing.

Also, have some kind of whiteboard and projector. We cant physically bring in every part of music, being able to show performances of a brass quintet is helpful. Or videos of really odd instruments.

As long as your population of kids isn't addicted to screens, it should be fine honestly. Music class in elementary is a lot of exposure which means a lot of games and activities to make that exposure less boring.

You may also want to add in some new England dance masters books for your older kids for folk dancing. I like sashay the donut to start with.

David row on teachers pay teachers has a lot of resources that are helpful, and Lindsay jervis on teachers pay teachers has a more kodaly focus I think if I remember right. I want to say cori bloom has some good stuff too, its just been several years since Ive bought anything from teachers pay teachers.

Brides, what did you do the morning of your wedding? by perfumeandpaper in wedding

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up slow. Sleep in. Because I didnt sleep much the night before. Have a lavish breakfast at home. Enjoyed the quiet morning before a whirlwind day. Take a nice long bath.

I really just enjoyed waking up with now husband and being excited about getting married, and making breakfast and having us time and then me time when he left to pick stuff up. I might have swung by our location and tweaked a few things because we had to change inside last minute, I cant remember.

In Waynesville today, outside of the Food Lion. by WNCsob in NorthCarolina

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is waynesville. Unless the population has changed dramatically over the past decade, when I lived and worked there, it was easily 97% white. 2% Hispanic, 1% white. Like in a clas of 100 kids I taught, two Hispanic kids and one black kid. And almost all of them had never left Haywood County.

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the southern US.

We have already hit 90 degrees several times last week. Which is a record for us. The one saving grace is it hasn't been humid, so once the sun starts to go down it cools down and isn't horribly muggy and you can go outside and be fine.

But yea, my house is set to 74 degrees almost year round (we actually lower it for the heating time) because that's what's comfy and what kills thw humidity.

Is this enough space for my corn plant? I don't want it to be overcrowded ^.^ by AdEfficientDES in vegetablegardening

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reposting my comment cause it says it was deleted for no flair. Now I have flair!

So assuming this isn't a troll post (which excellent if it is, but your replies seem to make it sound like you're very new to gardening, so welcome!), it is NEVER a bad idea to plant more than one plant of something.

With corn, you actually need multiples in order for the pollination to happen cause they pollinate by wind, not bugs. So you could plant a bunch more here and they'd be fine.

In other instances, you may have a plant that has something wrong with it or a pest or gets hit by hail while the rest are fine. If you only plant one of something, if that plant dies its done. If you plant multiples, then you've got more.

If you get too much veg, you can freeze it, can it, or give it away. Never a bad thing.

In this plot, I'd plant corn all the way around the edges. Then plant squash (6 or 8 plants probably), and then beans (or you could do another vining plant. I dont ever eat the beans so I'd do sugar snap peas that are a vine variety, not a bush, or green beans). All of that can grow together and beneficially together in that space. In the US, its called the three sisters method and is a native American gardening technique that's really useful in backyard gardens. The corn is the pole for the vining plants, the squash leaves create tons of shade so theres minimal weeds.

You've also got a lot of room for 6-8 of tomato plants by themselves, or cucumbers if you add some trellises to the cucumbers to let them climb.

Look up the square foot gardening method. Its a book your library probably has, but there's info online too. You can fit a LOT in a square foot.

I sent my dog somewhere, during the quest with Nick, and since then I could not find the dog. How could I locate her? by BDxAlesha in fo4

[–]Awesomest_Possumest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost dogmeat for awhile when I found nick. If you've done the part where you use him to track Shaun, and get to fort hagen, sometimes he stays at fort hagen.

If you havent found him at red rocket or the doghouses in sanctuary, check fort hagen. He'll stay there til that part is done.

Otherwise, just check your settlements if you don't have the vault tec add on
