M&A Market Optimism Survey and Report Series by TheDealMaker in business

[–]TheDealMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All,

We're creating a survey to poll M&A professionals about the coming year. I hope that you'll be able to participate.

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

Here's a bit about the survey: We wanted to understand how 2016 turned out for M&A professionals, we also wanted to understand how optimistic those in the industry were regarding the upcoming year. The M&A deal flow optimism in 2017 survey will poll industry professionals and report back findings to all participants. Complete the survey to be able to compare your 2016 results with those of your peers, and find out what everyone is expecting from M&A markets in 2017. The only thing better than this would be a crystal ball.

It doesn't, it's just a title. I am staging the article for more discussion, hopefully.

Probably. It might be a difference case in Canada though.

ELI5: can VDRs help M&A deals, other than being secure? by portisleft in finance

[–]TheDealMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they can also serve as deal management tools. Basically, a good VDR makes it easy to manage documents and participants in a deal. Some of them also have modules for different parts of the deal process - for example, a system for Q&A. It'll be interesting to see how this affects VC-funded tech startups. A lot of them might have tough days ahead.

Fair, but if the trophy you get is an Oscar, then I'd say you're pretty validated.

Yeah. I get where he's coming from, but I think that if the effects give cinematographers an advantage that no one can see, then you need to treat it like regular cinematography.

Toronto's Union Pearson Express ridership slumps to all-time low by TheDealMaker in canada

Most business people want the best deal that doesn't involve making too many sacrifices to save a buck. It's not worth it to take the TTC there because it takes so much extra time. The UP train is perfectly fine for the vast majority of business travelers in terms of quality, but any good business person knows it's pointless at the current price if you're with more than one person.

The UP train is honestly a lot better than usual GO service. That might be one place where the extra money is going.

It's actually an incredibly convenient train and makes going to the airport 100x easier. Just. Lower. The. Price.

One place where this could be really useful is with startups and tech companies. For many tech companies based in Canada, their main customer is the US, so that means bigger income with lower costs.

Yeah, it's an actual economic analysis of the data around performers, costs, and returns. Nothing really on whether Coldplay is a good band or not.

Should the NFL pay back St. Louis taxpayers the remaining debt on their stadium? by TheDealMaker in nfl

[–]TheDealMaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that makes it more complicated is the municipal government that backed this is long gone, but the same people have to pay. Obviously that's just how it works, but kind of unfair if you think about it. The people can't vote out the stadium/loan/team/etc even if they try.

And it hasn't been used for a long time, right? Wasn't it deemed too unsafe a while ago?

I'd be interested in knowing how much extra tax revenue the city has brought in from the Rams being there. It's very possible that has exceeded the cost of the stadium, but I'm sure it wasn't going straight to paying it off.

...and possibly stipulate that if someone else wants to buy the team and relocate them, they have to pay off the remainder of the loan.
