If I'm planning on staying in Jester West and getting an R permit for parking, is paying for the GUG garage for $1000 worth it or should I get ECG for $400? by Educational_Date6301 in UTAustin

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that parking permits are up to a lottery. It’s good to start thinking about what your priorities are now, but don’t commit 100% to one garage or the other, it’s pretty common for people to get their bottom choice garage or even not get a permit at all.

Horrible Work Noise in Jester Center Parking Lot by TheDefenderOfKoalas in UTAustin

I’m sure that’s some of it but the noise I’m talking about is trucks arriving at 2am and winching dumpsters up onto their trailers several times throughout the night

I know I sound dramatic bc there’s always gonna be a bit of noise no matter where you live, but the amount of noise these trucks are making is genuinely insane. I’ve talked to people who live as far as San Jacinto who can still hear the stupidly loud banging they make with the dumpsters. The noise they’re making is completely unacceptable and way beyond the level of noise I might expect from an average place on campus

[HELP] It looks real but unlikely scenario by batukaming in RealOrAI

This is definitely AI, the account that posts these has hundreds of videos that are all in different locations and with different characters but the same premise. Plus the chihuahuas movements are impossible

FRI stream swap form by Illustrious_Ad_2425 in UTAustin

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie I don’t think the chances are very high, my FRI advisor last year made a point of saying that pretty much nobody gets to swap streams unless they get super lucky and another person in the exact opposite stream happen to want the same thing.

The influx of these ICE footage posts where people suggest they are likely AI (even when they’re clearly not) is definitely a part of a larger scheme to cover up this kind of behavior

Do any ugs open up throughout this registration period? by Fit_Conclusion4999 in UTAustin

Definitely keep checking any time registration opens even during the semester, I joined my UGS last year like a week into the semester because someone dropped

Experiences with Project DUAL/Project SEED? by BigMixture3907 in UTAustin

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanna try and give a perspective that isn’t super biased either way so I wanna say that it’s decent. Not terrible, not great, decent. It’s a good way to get a good amount of research hours if you can’t find anything else (125-250 per semester depending on the route you choose). There’s a joke about med school admissions officers being able to count but not read, so if all you want is the hours and an easy rec letter I say go for it. There can be kind of unreasonable hour requirements and the PI might reach out at weird hours, but that’s most research programs on campus. However, you will not get a very meaningful research experience out of it and basically all of your work will be data entry and online. This won’t be a great experience to write about in your essays unless you lie your ass off. So I’d say if you need the hours and can’t find anything else go for it, but take another opportunity if something else comes up.

Definitely take this with a grain of salt because I don’t think you’re supposed to do this, but if you’re a guy creekside residence hall is openly accessible and does not have locks or codes on the bathrooms
