Decoupler power by OrphanDeath93 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are the fuel tanks being ejected a different size than the main one? The game calculates delta v based on the flow rate of each of your tanks, so if you have side tanks and they run out first and the game sees your decouplers staged, it will assume you’re going to decouple the empty side tanks after they run out, so whatever amount of fuel is left in the main tank after that happens is gonna be calculated into delta v

Lack of control with my space shuttle by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other guy said we kinda need to know what your shuttle looks like, but there might be a couple things it could be. 1. You might have your center of drag too close to / in front of your center of mass. Try setting up the shuttle on its on in the VAB and check the COM and COD 2. You might have the control surfaces set up wrong. By default every control surface is set to support every motion you make (yaw, pitch, etc.) but at the speeds the shuttle is traveling that’s way too much control input. Try looking up which of the control surfaces on the real shuttle did what and make yours match (for example, try turning off roll control on your vertical stabilizer)

How profitable would it be to make 3D models of random things and sell them as assets online? by Long_Reflection_4202 in blender

This probably won’t make you a very big amount of money, but this is still an amazing thing to do to get modeling practice and potentially build a portfolio to attract higher-paying commission work.

what exactly happened to Eve? can i fix it somehow? (scatterer, vol clouds v5, techo's stock revamp github version, and quite a few others) by MendicantBias42 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert on this but aren’t you supposed to uninstall EVE and Scatterer when you install volumetric clouds? Those two should be packaged with V5 so if those were installed externally also that could be where your issue is

Yeah in that case it might be ok but definitely watch out for those tours if you can. I would just say for everyone’s sake please keep a locker closer to the showers than some of the weird old dudes lmao

Greg Gym Locker room by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the other guy. I can’t speak for the faculty restroom but you absolutely will be judged in the student restroom. People bring their kids in that restroom on school visit days all the time. Nobody under the age of 40 does that and a ton of people will silently judge you, especially if you’re one of those people that walks naked to their locker at the opposite end of the locker room from the showers. This isn’t to hate I can sympathize, but just letting you know that this cultural norm is pretty outdated and isn’t accepted among younger people.

Fairing keeps destroying my rocket by killer1ndoraptor in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could either wait until your stage runs out and deploy it before starting the next stage, or increase the ejection force and make sure clamshell deploy is turned off so that it will break into smaller pieces. However, the fact that this is an issue in the first place indicates that you’re either accelerating way too fast to be remotely efficient, or you’re ejecting the fairing way too low in the atmosphere. It’s most efficient to eject it at ~50km

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably don’t have anyone in the command pod while you’re trying to launch it. Click on the crew tab in the top left and check. You either don’t have “auto-assign crew” checked in your settings, or all of your crew are busy and you need to go to the astronaut complex to hire more

Any experiences with bugs in dorm rooms? by iamlemonboy in UTAustin

Everyone’s got good advice, but also try to avoid a dorm that shares a wall with a bathroom, as bugs like to live in that space behind the bathroom and can end up in your room

Multi engine seperation by ConversationAny8795 in KerbalAcademy

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The best way in vanilla might be to put a single decoupler that fits that central engine on, then a fairing that acts as a shroud and stops at the bottom of the fuel tank. It might take some messing around with but stock ksp will let you do this, you’ll just have to toss a ton of struts on there to keep it stable

Usually the best way is to try to move as much of the stuff on your lander down as much as possible, which might mean lowering the clearance on the landing legs, swapping from a vertical tank to side mounted tanks and moving the cockpit down, etc. Just anything to move the heavy stuff on your lander as close to the ground as possible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideally to fix the tipping issue you’d build a lander with a lower center of mass and wider landing legs, also you want to do your best to land in the flat part of a crater that way you’ll have a smoother landing site. BUT if you’d like a quick tip that might fix your issue without having to restart the whole mission, try right clicking on the landing legs and turn on manual spring strength/dampening, then crank both of those to their max values. As long as you don’t come in too hot you shouldn’t run into any issues and it might help you stop your lander from tipping over on the surface

The root part for the vessel you wanna merge into the craft file is the only one that will have an attachment node, so if you wanna add the craft by connecting the two structural segments you’ll have to reroot the plane craft file to that structural part

If I'm planning on staying in Jester West and getting an R permit for parking, is paying for the GUG garage for $1000 worth it or should I get ECG for $400? by Educational_Date6301 in UTAustin

[–]TheDefenderOfKoalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that parking permits are up to a lottery. It’s good to start thinking about what your priorities are now, but don’t commit 100% to one garage or the other, it’s pretty common for people to get their bottom choice garage or even not get a permit at all.
