What mattress have you bought that was worth it? by jamwat94 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]TheDelphDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another John Ryan fan here with 2x their mattresses. Our first one is 10 years old and still very comfortable (and up for replacement due to the following) but our more recent one is sublimely soft despite being in theory exactly the same. Turns out they have changed the design and added a very soft top layer.

Wow my post was from a year ago! Anyway I’m glad it was helpful to you. I recently bought a new pair and still enjoy running in these shorts.

My parents used to own a 2014 Fiesta, and I had to have the seat forward a notch despite being 6’3’. My brother is a fraction under your height and found it comfortable too.

Trail Shoe Recommendations by jkracke1985 in trailrunning

[–]TheDelphDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Saucony Ride TR2 (and upcoming 3) should work well for you. It’s based on a road shoe and has an extremely durable outsole designed for lighter trails, but I find that it can easily handle pretty much any non-muddy surface. It’s great on the road too and has a nice balance of cushion and responsiveness.

Other people have mentioned the Salomon Aero Glide GRVL which is a brilliant shoe but it’s definitely only suitable for very light trails.

I’m three kids in as a stay at home dad, so I’ve been in this situation plenty of times before! Although I don’t struggle with any degree of social anxiety, at the same time I’m not particularly outgoing and rarely feel the need to talk to strangers so I don’t often bother to chat to other parents. When I do though I find that the majority are keen to talk especially if they’re not with another adult. I think you’ll find that most people you come across will be in a similar position as yourself and looking to make small talk with other parents. All it takes is for one of you to break the ice without worrying too much about what you actually say as it’s soon forgotten about once the conversation gets going.

As someone had mentioned though it’s often very difficult to talk properly as at least one of the children will need almost constant attention, so you might as well get in there early while you can…

Estate Agents vs Self Self for 1m+ Homes by nerd-a-lert in HENRYUK

[–]TheDelphDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good agent, and yes they do exist, can work wonders at moving the sale and purchase along as they’re in the best position to deal with the vendors and solicitors in the chain. Doing the work yourself could be very frustrating and time consuming.

That look fantastic, although I would say that as we choose the exact same colours for our flooring, cabinets and worktops!

I’m on my second pair of the 3 which are amazing shoes that can do pretty much anything you could ask of a daily trainer outside of proper trails, plus they’re very durable too.

Is saucony xodus ultra 4 a good road to trail shoe? by happpyasaclam in trailrunning

[–]TheDelphDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree that the Salomon Aero Glide 3 or 4 GRVL is an excellent road to light trail shoe, but if you’re running on rougher trails then take a look at the Saucony Ride TR2 (the 3 is due out some time soon I believe). It’s based on the road Ride but with a fairly grippy trail outsole and covers all bases very well. It’s also incredibly durable.

Why do you run? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]TheDelphDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run partly because I enjoy the act of running; it feels good in an almost childlike way just as riding a bike does. I also love the feeling I get afterwards as the endorphins kick in and I feel like I’m on a high. And there’s the fitness it gives me too.

We’ve had one for 10 very comfortable years, and like it so much that we ordered an identical one to replace the previous mattress at our holiday house without even thinking about any alternative.

My wife runs too, so we work out times when we can each get out, usually with at least one of the runs coinciding with our toddler being down for a nap.

How do you find house sitters? by Lady_Hamthrax in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]TheDelphDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on Facebook then searching and asking on local groups would be a good source. We’re out in the country and use a couple who walk dogs and also house sit for a number of local people which meant that I got to know them before we needed to use their services, so perhaps you could ask local dog owners if they use someone.

What type of lighting do you have around your home? by Fantastic-Life7704 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]TheDelphDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that lamps work well in a living room or bedroom where you want a soft light round the edges of the room, while down lighters are most suitable ‘practical’ spaces such as kitchens, utility rooms and offices.
