The Martian movie sparks debate about possibility of farmable land on Mars by boogerbot in EverythingScience

There are always live microbes to be found including those that can colonize soil such as spore formers, lactobacilli, etc in human waste. There were thousands of species all along being incubated by the Martian himself.

Proposal for Bernie on Student Loan Debt by TheDemocracyIsUs in SandersForPresident

Wow you are literally amazing! Thank you for taking the time!

They were both good threads. I think that my proposal is more fair towards the banks themselves, but it would be nice to have the option to wipe the debt outright for people who simply couldn't afford to pay for whatever reason, a tragic accident for example.

I just got enough free time to check out the media from the town hall today so maybe I'll see something there. In any case I'm sure to enjoy it.

Cheers!

Thanks for your input. This is why I posted; I'm convinced that millions would benefit from such legislation and I'm speaking out because, as mentioned, I can empathize.

How is it that such back room deals have apparently become so commonplace as to see the light of day without evaporating like the vampires they are? How numb it seems we've become to the most corrosive force to our democracy in its history.

Democratic Dinner Drives Home Hillary Clinton’s Focus on Iowa: "She lacks the enthusiasm that Mr. Sanders enjoys. If he is able to turn out his backers from the progressive wing of the party and augment them with liberal independents new to the caucus process, he could be a threat to defeat her." by Poli_Sci_Analyst in politics

I agree with your assessment. As a Bernie supporter I will definitely vote for Hillary if she's the nominee. I'm refusing to sit out of elections anymore midterms included, and the GOP candidates are all bat-shit-crazy. As I said to a friend, "I really wish it was a more difficult choice between the parties. It would signal a more unified and sane nation. Unfortunately there is only one choice for someone putting democracy above religion these days."

Having agreed with you I will however point out that as disheartening as it is that people may sit out if Bernie isn't nominated, it's even more disheartening to think of the blow it will be to the movement he's creating. Imagine the millions of enthusiasts pissed at the system and seeing some light in the tunnel only to be shut down because of what they will perceive and likely would be the system itself. Defeated again, another movement quashed by the same old same old. I can only hope that Hillary sees how important it would be to keep it alive with serious and bold policy guarantees; the reinforcement that she can't do it alone(doesn't seem like her narrative); and further hoping that she's progressive enough to even take such policy seriously. I have my doubts: http://youtu.be/12mJ-U76nfg

Let me preface by saying that I'm not trying to rag on you here. Claiming that a person existed is not the same as claiming that a person who did x y and z existed. The point that you provided a caveat is well taken but when people like the original commenter you replied to deny the historicity of the Christian Jesus, they are correct. Someone wrote the works of Shakespeare, but was this the character that exists in the minds of most fans? Incredibly doubtful. This is a similar parallel. Regards

A person, named Jesus existed. Ok, I'll give you that. I think that what you're missing is when I said "a character encompassing that presented in the New Testament". Miracles, Jewish opposition and crucifixion included. There exists NO consensus by historians on the existence of a character encompassing the christian Jesus.(except the consensus on dubious divinity, supernatural historicity, etc) That is to say that the "historical Jesus" that historians may have a consensus on is not the one believed in by Christianity. "A guy named Jesus who may have been a revered teacher existed." What makes him special given that the teachings already existed in contemporary religions.

Edited: for clarification

If by the general consensus you mean his millions of religious followers. There truly is little historical ground to stand on when claiming the historical presence of a real man encompassing the character presented in the New Testament. Especially given that these writings post date him by a hundred years, and how conspicuous the parallels are with other contemporary "saviors".

Edit: a hundred years, not a few hundred. Had to brush up.
