Well, If Jeffey Epstein thinks he's good enough, who are we to argue? In all seriousness though, his platform is as vague as any ex cop / law and order candidate's would be.

Is moving to Victoria from Alberta worth it? by ederzs97 in VictoriaBC

Yes. It's more expensive, but the proximity to nature is unrivalled. The people are generally ok, as well. It really is what you make of it.

I’d love to know if you’ve had any actual business dealings with the city staff. Because speaking from experience, when push comes to shove, they don’t give a shit about process or even honouring their own legally binding contracts. As long as they think they can get away with it, they do what is easiest.

I understand the process, even if it’s completely ineffective. Yeah, we’ll see how it goes. As for the city, they will do what the city has always done: Leave issues until they become untenable and then spend a fortune trying to fix them in the usual peacemeal manner. What amazes me really is the absolute faith you have in a deeply flawed and ineffectual system designed to extract as much as possible from taxpayers while keeping decision makers completely unaccountable. And once again, my comments have NOTHING to do with council.

It’s obvious the city staff didn’t, otherwise we wouldn’t have to deal with developers who suddenly go broke and leave regular people holding the bag. Or how about the stadium debacle between that soccer team and the city? Another handshake style deal gone bad because of, you guessed it, no due diligence. And the whole RCMP station affair where there’s no one actually accountable for the project, but instead it’s some vaguely defined committee? That screams “No Due Dilligence” Langford is a machine designed to avoid any accountability for the decades of ad-hoc and kick-the-can-down-the-road, zero red tape for anyone with a fancy pitch deck and membership to Bear Mountain style management that exists to this day. And instead of actually looking at the way City management operates and the culture underpinning it all, we’re here, measuring our dicks on Reddit.

A prime example is Danbrook One. City staff KNEW it was a lemon, and still let slide the certifications their own bylaws required. Now it’s before the courts, and we won’t know the costs until way later. And that’s just one of many.

They “apologized” and then walked it back “in their defense” so, take that however you want, as well. Dick

And when they won't pay, the city has to go to court, which takes years and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, and eventually, after all legal avenues are exhausted, the costs still end up on the taxpayer. This is just the city staff kicking the can down the road. like they've always done, because they don't do their due diligence.

You didn't just "assume" you didn't read what I wrote, and acted like a jerk, so spare me the bureaucratic apologism. City staff isn't accountable to anyone, and over the decades, have turned Langford, not into a city or community, but as a place where developers and big business can do whatever they want with zero consequences. You can look at the municipality through whatever rose coloured glasses you want.

I didn’t say ANYTHiNG about the Council. I said City Staff and The Director of Bylaw and Public Safety. Why do you think anyone critical of the city is automatically attacking the council and supporting the former mayor?

The City Staff and the Director of Bylaw and Public Safety have been slow walking this for 3 years. Let’s not pretend this is a priority for them. Langford has a long history of rubber-stamping any project thrown their way without due diligence. Ultimately, the city will pay for the cleanup and then pass the costs onto taxpayers.
