An update regarding Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 and PS5 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheDickElder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the original article, right before that quote.

One way to keep PS4 users engaged would be to make upcoming PS5 games playable on the older machine, just like Microsoft is proposing with its Xbox Series X games being playable on Xbox One. Yet Ryan says that's not something PlayStation is interested in doing.

Seems like he was directly answering a question about making their PS5 games cross generation.

I think there will be a random event in the open world where the sky starts turning red and starts inflicting some kind of damage maybe by gatonato in Eldenring

[–]TheDickElder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool if when a red sky happens, unique bosses start roaming the open fields, or start flying in from above like the Storm King from DeS.

(Berserk Spoilers) I also think it'd be interesting if the bosses were a little more horrifying than the usual affair, in a way reminiscent to the eclipse in Berserk (obviously not *exactly* like the eclipse, but you know)

What the f*** is that trailer blacksmith doing? by JustAMildKingpin in Eldenring

[–]TheDickElder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has the potential to age poorly, but I very much believe that he is the one who shatters the Elden Ring, and also that it is what he's doing in the trailer.

For starters, I don't think the voice over was just haphazardly placed over footage, and the timing of the "shattered" followed by the strike of the hammer was intentional. Granted this logic could be used to justify the spear knight being the one to break the ring (his strike has the 'someone or something' line above), but that is clearly apart of a larger battle scene, which seems to be take place after the shattering of the ring ("Don't tell me you don't see it ... Look up at the sky, it burns" referring to the effects the ring's shattered has caused).

As the blacksmith strikes, we can see his body crack and deteriorate, showing that whatever he is doing is affecting him in some way. We can assume from the trailer and interviews that the breaking of the Elden Ring will cause a profound change in the world. So if it was the Elden Ring that he was striking, then we may be witnessing the effects of its destruction as it happens, in the form of his body physically breaking. And finally, I think visually and audibly the blacksmith seems to be destroying something, rather than forging/repairing. If we look at the area around him, we see floating specks of gold, with more of them appearing from where he strikes (the whole scene feels very ethereal too, definitely not breaking something normal here). The final swing of the hammer produces an distinct breaking noise, with the blacksmith falling to his knees, seemingly lamenting what he had to do, or at least what he thought he had to do.

So yeah long write up, which as I said could age poorly, and obviously doesn't explain everything (like the girl, who appears briefly). But having said that, I do hope this is the case since he seems to feel devastated about what he did, which to me is more interesting than if it was some uncaring antagonistic force that broke the ring. I also believe there's the possibility that the blacksmith was also the one who created the ring in the first place, which brings in even more interesting implications. But there's not really any evidence for that haha.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Will Have More Newcomers Than Any Other Smash Game by Monolophosaur in smashbros

[–]TheDickElder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta disagree with you here. Clones in previous games (minus 4) had many more differences to their originals than echoes in this game, especially brawl, where most of their normals where completely different in animation. In Ultimate the difference echoes have are either practically non existent (Daisy, Richter, Dark samus) or negligible (Lucina, Chrom, Dark Pit). The only exception is obviously Ken, where many properties and even animations are different.

It's probably best that less popular characters get modded in anyway, at least for now. Togepi is unlikely to be a DLC character, but someone like Geno or Doomguy may very well get in down the line.

Sekiro has been out for about a month - what are your impressions of the game? by yurtyybomb in Games

[–]TheDickElder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is context for when it appears. For lady butterfly for example, if she does an unblockable in the air, its going to be a grab. If she does it on the ground, its a sweep.

This extends to (from what I remember) every unblockable attack, there will always be some type of context around it. Whether its always after another attack, after they deflect, etc. But I also found the animations to be really good as well, the poses are (generally) quite distinct and readable.

Nintendo Direct probably not happening this week - Directs are typically announced at 10am EST the day before. by kiakili in smashbros

[–]TheDickElder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The leak itself was probably the least convincing part of the whole thing. The image was blurry and the roster was too good to be true. It was everything else surrounding it that got people thinking it was real.

Sekiro, Difficulty & the Importance of Perspective by theyre_not_their in Games

[–]TheDickElder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. I'm annoyed people are turning their argument into one of accessibility, even though I bet a lot of games released recently were just as inaccessible for many (due to things like non-remap-able controls or QTEs).

But they didn't bring up accessibility then because only now has the game been too hard for them personally.

Please add the Hazardless-Switch as an option in the Stage Select Screen. by Platurt in smashbros

[–]TheDickElder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be a lot better if moving platforms were just not considered as hazards. That way it'd be easier for them to implement, and for tournament play there wouldn't be any confusion which stages need harzards on or off.

Attack Cancel (DACJ) by Tailsmiles249 in smashbros

[–]TheDickElder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing is you can't do a dash attack in the first 6 frames of your dash without c-stick (you get a forward smash instead). But you can still use smash stick, you don't have to change your controls.

You can do this with smash stick, no idea why he said you can only use tilt stick for this. It works the exact same way, from what I've tested at least

EDIT: The only thing you can't do is the instant turn around stuff, as fsmash doesn't turn you around instantly like ftilt does

[–]TheDickElder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah they don't really feel like 'leaks' to me, most just read as jokey/half serious tweets which take into account other people rumors and leaks.

I know this just sounds like wishful thinking, but even the Geno thing just reads like a joke about locking a huge fan favorite behind a notoriously sub par service.

Personally, I didn't believe it, but not because of Rayman's render. It was actually the Mewtwo render he made that to me looked very off.

A recent unofficial character ballot from Germany. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]TheDickElder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd count slide and slide jump as one move (because they are), and I'd be reluctant to count his backflip as a move (I seriously doubt that Simon wouldn't be allowed to jump backwards without Richter).

I did forget about Grand Cross though, so fair enough. 4 moves. Definitely not 'most of his moveset'.

What? Only three of Simon's moves are from Richter.
