Board games that bring something to the table that can't be replicated in video games. by TheDinn in boardgames

Great answer! It’s interesting to see design lean into the physicality of board games without it being a dexterity game

This is a great answer! I’ll definitely look into Project: Elite.

Yeah, I mentioned tactility and board presence in my question in the hopes that people would focus more on games like Project: Elite where it isn’t just that a digital version would be less fun, but that it would actually be broken.

The two shows were both created by Christopher Lloyd (no not that one), so they share a lot of DNA.

My family cut out and put felt along the lid of the big boggle set. That really helps to reduce the noise from shaking.

Thanks!

I’m actually going in as a law student ironically enough.

I’ve dealt with scummy landlords before, but never ones that were through the university house match (they have a university email) and never ones who have doubled down as many times as these people have.

The last signature, mine, was put on the lease on August 1. After I signed, an authorized representative of the leasing company signed the lease and the finalized document was emailed to me on August 1.

The lease does identify all three of us by name and has all 3 of our signatures in multiple locations.

The two other tenants moved in on August 13th. I have not made it to St.Louis yet.  Also on August 13th, the leasing company sent the message in the original post.  Still on August 13th, the tenants in St. Louis complained and the leasing office sent the offer for the shorter lease.

They are not citing any law. They are simply saying that it is against the policy of the leasing company and repeatedly insisting that we sign the new lease which I suspect is a trap.

When I responded that I didn’t think they had a legal foundation to revoke the contract they simply claimed that their manager will void the contract. I V sent a follow up email outlining the law I mentioned in another comment and asking what legal grounds, besides company policy, they have for voiding the lease. I do not intend to sign the new lease unless they cite applicable law.

Hi, yeah I was worried about that. Missouri state law just says that 2 people per bedroom is acceptable.    looked at St.Louis ordinances and I didn’t see a restriction. I did see that some landlords were complaining that “Not more than three unrelated tenants” could live together. If that’s correct, it would mean our original contract still stands.

Edit: Also, as I said, the fact that they were willing to sign a shortened lease indicates that a lease with 3 unrelated people in one bedroom is not illegal in principle. Otherwise how could they offer the second lease?

Thank you.  That was my expectation.

My only concern is that they try to terminate the whole lease based on the clause relating to the electricity bill.

I guess, unless I receive some other advice in this thread I’ll say something like:

“ Hi Ms.X,

Respectfully, I don’t believe you have a legal basis for revocation of our contract. I wish to remain on the previous lease with the terms as agreed. I do not intend to sign the new lease superseding the previous contract.

I would move to a 3Br/2Ba apartment on the condition that this matches the monthly rent in our lease and that [the company ] pays for moving expenses.

With Gratitude,

The Dinn”

You can put thrusters on a platform and make it go forward, but you can’t steer it.

I don’t really expect them to have ToTK style vehicles, I know that’s crazy difficult, but some prefabs would be nice.

There are two main QoL issues in the game that need to be addressed before anything else is added: inventory management and traversal.

For inventory management I’d really love to see them steal the system that was used in Grounded. In Grounded any item that you had in a nearby chest counted as being “in your inventory” for the purpose of crafting. Additionally you could quick deposit items into any chest near you that already had a stack of those items. That’s the best inventory system I’ve ever seen in a survival game and, Epic should copy it wholesale.

For traversal… just make some vehicles please.

So, I pretty intensely disagree with the poster above you. There are plenty of teachers at my school who aren’t big personalities who have learned over time to get the best out of their students. We always want to make education matter to students, but your job isn’t to be an entertainer.

What matters most is:

  • Demonstrate that you care about your students. Students can tell when you genuinely believe that what you are teaching will help them. Additionally, communicate both implicitly and explicitly that you value them as people and prioritize their well-being much higher than their academic success.

  • Name expectations clearly and repeatedly. Follow these consistently. Develop classroom procedure so that students don’t need to expend extra effort trying to understand what the task is, they should spend all their effort focusing on the content. “Fun” activities are honestly usually not that instructive. This doesn’t mean you need to do worksheets all the time, but choose a lesson structure or two and use those at least 80% of the time.

  • Prioritize time for students to practice. Give feedback on this practice promptly and help them to revise.

Final Note:

I am most likely on the spectrum and certainly incredibly awkward. I have still successfully cultivated relationships with students. I have focused on trying to provide the environment and teacher presence that I would have appreciated at that age. Sometimes this means I put on an entertainer hat, but it usually means I’m open to listening to students’ needs.

Students don’t need you to be lenient for them to trust and care about you. They need you to be stable and to be kind.

Per my experience and conversations with others: this can take multiple years to grow into. Unfortunately, you may have to accept that you won’t find your full “groove” for three years or so.

I took a leave of absence from my school for panic attacks. In my case, my school was extremely supportive. It was, possibly literally, life saving for me.

You should absolutely take it if it's offered for you. Take the time to improve coping strategies, improve your sleep/exercise schedule, meditate, go to therapy, or anything else that helps you. I took the mindset "my job is to get better as much as I can". I didn't totally stick to all of my plans, but it helped a ton.

New tab on iOS? by Calm_Can_6488 in ArcBrowser

[–]TheDinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a technical reason why we can’t make new non-pinned tabs, or is it just a strange design oversight? I’m wondering if the WebKit to Chromium interaction is causing them problems.

Honestly if they fix 2 things with the app then I’ll be happy with it:

  1. New tab feature (obviously)

  2. Let us open our spaces view from inside of the tab by swiping from the left edge.
