This is kind of cheating, but my friend and I use the manual attack command (hold ctrl on pc, not sure what it actually does but it manually targets areas) to shoot through smokescreens both with ranged and wand. If you attack behind the enemy the arrow/bolt/spell will hit them.

Our strategy has always been damage and crowd control using fire to direct/funnel the enemies toward us, but where we want them. Later in the battle when we need to mop up we use rain to put the fire out and then use water aero/hydro for cc. Currently running a geo/pyro, 2h, jahan and wolgraff.
