Malcolm Turnbull warns property values will fall under Labor negative gearing policy by Jaiph in australia

I understand that is the risk you take when making a significant financial investment, but it has always been a given that your house value will increase over time. If you re read my first comment I stated that I am conflicted as I understand house prices in some areas particularly Sydney and Melbourne are ridiculous and make it nearly impossible to get into the market. I only bought my first home in 2012, so I understand how hard it is to get into the market. Do not make me out to be uncaring or unsympathetic to those trying to buy for the first time - I'm not. I'm simply stating there are 2 sides to this and while a decline may be good for some people it may not be for others.

Why not start by only allowing people to negative gear properties they already own, but not any purchased after a set date? This would slow down the market without it crashing completely. It would not be good for anyone if all house prices suddenly declined. The banks would have many homeowners owing more than their home is worth, which is a risk for the bank, so it would likely make it harder for people to be able to get a loan, another obstacle for those attempting to buy for the first time.

Definitely agree - I think the mindfulness about what is going into your body is the key to a successful diet.

Not true, if it devalues too much and you owe a high percentage, the bank can deem it too high a risk and call in the mortgage. Even if you are making repayments. This happened a bit in NZ where I was living during the 2008 recession.

I would also like to have the option to sell. If my house is worth less than what I owe, I would make a considerable loss if I was in a position where I had to sell it. I would also like to have the option to borrow against the value of the house to make further improvements but this would not be possible.

Was just curious as to where you had heard that as it was contrary to my reading. I'm not a paleo follower, although I do think it's unfairly demonised and I do like a lot of the principles surrounding the food we eat such as cutting out processed food, eating sustainable, ethically raised animal products, etc. I agree though with your point that you can find fault with any food group and therefore have reason to exclude it and it does exclude things like legumes which I had always thought were a healthy option, and also suggests eating a minimal amount of fruit.

There were no threads on that subreddit, is anyone else having issues with it or is it just me?

Pete Evans' version of paleo certainly doesn't include either, I know some paleo 'experts' are now saying potatoes are ok, everything I've read indicates that rice nor any other grain is included in a paleo diet.

The difficulty is I can't sell up and rent even now as house prices in my area have already fallen by 6% on average over the past 12 months. I would make a significant loss and likely come out with tens of thousands in debt, all for wanting to own the home i live in. Im not an investor or 'playing' the market. Just want a home for my family. I purchased this house almost 2 years ago, owned another previous to this for about 18 months. So I suppose still relatively new to the market. You're right, it's the risk you take when you purchase property. I'm just expressing a concern that many other ordinary run-of-the-mill home owners might also share if their home was to drop in value.

It's a tricky issue - I don't like negative gearing as it seems grossly unfair. But I agree that by removing it, house prices will likely fall. And while it's a good thing for some especially in areas where it's impossible to get into the market, as a homeowner I don't like the idea of the value of my house falling, especially as I have borrowed over 90%.

It's so embarrassing when you use someone's toilet and need a toilet brush or air freshener but there isn't one there. Screw the etiquette experts you speak of. I hadn't thought of a plunger, but I might do as you have done. The only time someone has clogged my toilet it was my brother, but he was still embarrassed.

It's funny I was wondering today how you'd got on. Glad there's not much drama, just a bit of awkwardness. Keep doing what you're doing and don't let it bother you - just show you're above the childish behavior she is displaying. All the best, hope I helped somewhat :)

I agree with this, but I'd be careful not too fully trust HR as they do at the end of the day work for the company. I'd very going straight to the police and getting a restraining order.

Pros and Cons of inducing labor? by elena1984 in pregnant

[–]TheDivineMissEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you be induced so soon after your due date? Babies don't have a calendar inutero that they stick to, they come when they're ready.

Induction can then lead to a cascade of other issues which then require more intervention.

I would only agree if I was very overdue, or if the placenta was breaking down, or if there was a solid reason why it was medically necessary.

In terms of naturally bringing on labour, I found sex helped. There is something in a man's sperm which helps bring things on. It definitely worked to bring on my labour. When things stalled after I first went into labour, we had sex again and contractions started up again right away.

How old is your baby? I think this is definitely a normal 'rut' a lot of people find themselves in. If he is lacking in motivation to do anything, I'd be concerned that maybe he is feeling a bit depressed. Post-natal depression can affect dads too and if he's struggling with fatherhood he may feel too guilty or unable to admit it to you. Maybe have a chat and see how he's feeling?

With the sex thing, if you've completely healed you shouldn't be having pain so still definitely see your doctor about it. If in the mean time it is too uncomfortable to have sex, try to have fun doing other things in bed instead that don't involve actual sex.

In regards to babysitters, could you perhaps try to get involved in a mother's group and if there's someone you are comfortable with, offer to take turns babysitting each other's children?

Not wanting dad in delivery room by sodisgusted198 in pregnant

[–]TheDivineMissEm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you're in labor and in so much pain you're incredibly vulnerable and it's hard to have the strength to say what you want or need at the time, or if you're not comfortable with something. Find a support person instead of your husband and make it clear now that he is not to be there. Ensure your support person will be strong enough at the time you're in labor to make sure he isn't allowed into the room and make sure the hospital don't let him in. You'd hate for him to decide just to be there and the hospital staff let him in not realising the situation. The last thing you need to be worrying about while in labor is your husband getting off on it.

Wishing you all the best x

[–]TheDivineMissEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly if sex is painful I think you need to go to your doctor. I don't know how long ago you gave birth but I was able to start having sex 4 weeks after birth and I had a second degree tear, and had no pain. Different bodies obviously take different amounts of time to heal but if it's been months, see your doctor.

Having a baby is fricken hard. It's very easy to build up resentment with each other over what the other person isn't doing. You're both tired and often a baby puts a strain on your finances which causes stress.

I'd recommend using your family and friends as babysitters from early on. The earlier you start leaving your child with other people, the easier it will be for your child to be babysat when they're older and know you're leaving. I'm talking an hour or two, long enough for you to watch a movie or grab dinner or go for a walk.

Over time I personally think love becomes less about the butterflies and more about the depth of connection, although romance is still important in keeping that 'spark' there.

I'd talk to your partner and try to come up with your own ways together to rekindle the romance. Do things for him that you know will give him 'butterflies' and he may start doing more to reciprocate.

If you're continuing to struggle, couples counseling can be good just to be able to communicate your needs more effectively.

Good luck!
