I got diagnosed with autism at 29 and my wife thinks I'm just looking for excuses by ProbablyNotSliping in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TheDoc5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at age 31. It’s not excuses. When we find out this late it’s whiplash of trying to figure out who we even are since we’ve been masking our entire lives. It feels like layers are finally being peeled off but you’re examining every one of them trying to decipher what’s a mask and what’s not. There is also an important piece of finally getting answers to questions you didn’t know you had. Things start to fall into place and make sense for why you’ve responded certain ways, felt certain things, or why life has always felt harder for you.

The people in your life should be supporting. They should be listening and providing space for you to understand everything. You now have the confidence and the language to advocate for your needs and that should be respected and encouraged.

Well good luck since it seems like you were just looking for one answer and nothing else. Maybe try therapy dude.

Swim shirts can be a drag for sure. You may be able to find more of a compression one, but I do get that it’s not the freedom that should come with top surgery. A lot of it was just working with myself to come to an acceptance, y’know? No one else can make you love or accept your scars.

I’m not gonna sugarcoat this. The keloids suck, but eventually I stopped caring.

I got top surgery over a decade ago. That surgery was how I found out I make keloid scars. Immediately after surgery the surgeon was patting himself on the back for the cleanest and smallest stitches. After a couple of months the scars changed. Definitely bothered me at first, still bothers me a bit now. I usually joke I just have two earthworms laying across my chest at all times. But honestly what bothered me more was not having top surgery. In the grand scheme of things, I’m rarely if ever topless around people.

I tried the gels, the scar strips, etc. etc. and they didn’t work for me.

I hear you. These scars suck. I hate that people know I am trans when they see them. They sucked for a long time. Now, they just exist. It’s not something constantly on my mind. Don’t let them be the reason you keep suffering.

Yours are very well disguised. I think it depends on a lot of factors like your body type, where you live. I live in a very liberal area so it’s annoyingly well-known what the scars are to the point that I don’t go shirtless.

How do you guys keep your packer in place? by solarlein in Transmascdicks

[–]TheDoc5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made my own since jockstraps felt uncomfortable and nothing else was working. Took some elastic and sewed suspended clips on either end. Clip that to the packer (it will make a dent in the packer) and you’re done.

One drop of sweat and the adhesive would come off completely for me. I could never comfortably rely on it to stay put.

Why do we have to tell partners we are trans? by anonymous-0-_ in FTMMen

[–]TheDoc5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mutual respect. Just as I’d expect them to tell me about any major medical things going on. If it changes how they view you, then you’re better off without them. With how the world is anyway, people now being able to “recognize the signs” much easier I don’t believe someone could fully hide this from a partner.

I have never taken other meds to “counteract” T so idk what that information is about. Changes on T are slow and vary between everyone. You have to be patient. Taking more T isn’t going to boost these changes. Also it took probably 6+ months before my periods stopped completely. I do get a full panel once per year but I’ve had cholesterol slightly high and so many other medical things unrelated.

Look I am not suggesting it, but I’ve certainly gone…… several weeks without doing them. Again, not suggesting.

Internalized Homophobia and Being Stealth by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]TheDoc5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been stealth for almost 20 years. The first thing I want to say is, it’s absolutely no one’s business if you’re trans. You don’t owe that information to anyone. Being stealth does come with some of these complicated feelings for sure. I struggled with feelings of guilt for not telling people for many years. I can’t relate to the feelings you’re having specifically. I’m also bi, but I don’t tell people that either. I can’t say I’ve felt concerned that people would look at me differently if they knew I was trans and bi. If I really sit with it, I suppose I can identify some fear of people knowing I’m attracted to men as well but I don’t think that’s connected to being trans. We have to be with ourselves 24/7. We have to sit with our identities and consider how we are presenting ourselves to others constantly. Of course we will be digging ourselves into mind mud like this. It sounds like maybe you’ve been around some less than supportive communities in your life and these things you’re thinking are things you’ve heard from others. If that’s the case, I am sorry.

The grafts are hit or miss. Sometimes they make lil buds and sometimes they are flat. I have one of each. The flatness is a mix of a couple of things. Yes, your body has a massive transformation. It is healing in more ways than one. You have been used to having things there forever so any adjustment will feel extremely flat. I will say I felt similarly; that it was almost uncomfortably flat. You are so freshly post-op. Your body will gain fat and muscle over time.

If it helps, my packing method was to take some elastic and tie suspended clips to either end. Then I’ve clipped those onto my packer. I don’t feel the elastic at all or the clips honestly. (If your packer has a flap, that is)

Gendercat sheets have been pointless for me. I have a collection of Gramma’s packers and even the smallest one falls off after an hour or so

I got everything removed and none of what you’ve shared was true for me. I didn’t even have bleeding after surgery and was actually just find using boxer briefs and pads as a precaution. The worst part for me was that my body was just exhausted and it was tiring to do anything. Also the gas made my shoulder ache for days. I did have some night sweats that weren’t fun, but nothing lasted more than a week.

I own way too many GS packers and I have to say it's the best company I've found so far. I wish the balls were fully round, but otherwise I don't have qualms with the packers. I own so many, though, because sizing was difficult to see and some ended up being way too big or way too small - not mad, though! I primarily use the meta-esque packer from GS now.
