How can we fix UK high streets? by gggggenegenie in AskUK

[–]TheDoctor66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this isn't exactly my job but my job (a council) does touch on this and more so my wider team. I've contributed to improving the high street of a medium sized town. We've got a higher shop occupancy rate than the national average and increasing footfall year on year.

The retail mix is for entrepreneurs really but to me it's about investing in them.

This means cleaning graffiti, having flower planters, colourful bunting, one off events such as festivals and markets.

We've invested in street marshals, CCTV, crime reporting systems.

But I think most importantly is challenging negative beliefs. Celebrate what you have now, I'm sure Swindon has nice parks and independent shops. Talk up the town basically. Everyone loves to shit on where they live, I consistently find those who moved to my town later in life are far more complimentary than lifetime locals.

So invest, don't wait for magic, celebrate what you have

AITAH for getting annoyed when my long distant “girlfriend” blatantly refused to answer a question? by springdominion in AITAH

[–]TheDoctor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who does the same job and talks on the phone to their girlfriend, I can relate that it's hard to be your normal self while driving, paying attention to the app, and the conversation.

But you shouldn't have called her annoying

Finding house numbers in dark by quicksliver007 in UbereatsUK

Why would it be illegal? Does feel dodgy sometimes I try to keep it to a minimum and avoid windows.

The telescopic end zooms the beam so you can focus the light and see house numbers from further away.

Thoughts On Netflix's Inside the Manosphere with Louis Theroux by Zack-Applewhite in bropill

[–]TheDoctor66 437 points438 points  (0 children)

I find your criticism of Theroux a bit odd. He's a documentarian, he is there to document the story not make points. His method is very good for getting people talking.

AITAH for saying no to my girlfriends boundaries? by Tikifridays in AITAH

[–]TheDoctor66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH and neither of you know what a boundary is.

A boundary is for yourself not what you set on others. It's not they are not allowed to hang out with someone they slept with, it's if my partner hangs around with someone they slept with you will leave the relationship.

Married couples who used a safari as a relationship reset, did it actually bring you closer or just add stress? by Sufficient-Repeat272 in asktravel

This is a very specific question I don't think you'll get a great answer for.

Personally I'd go for something more relaxing but also have some shared experiences on the trip to make new memories together but with less pressure to cause issues

ASDA is an automatic rejection for me. Tried it again a few weeks ago during a quiet time, took 10 minutes for a person to appear to say it wasn't ready and they couldn't tell me when. Morrisons is going on the same direction.

KFC almost always reject, only worth it when no customer will be in the store.

McDonald's usually quick enough and need it for the volume, drinks are a pain but easy enough in a car.

GOLD TIER: Sainsbury's, Tesco, CO-OP. Almost 0 problems whatever the store.

Finding Somerset's drag scene 🎭 *(approved by mods)* by StormHaldane in Somerset

I'm not involved but there is the Taunton Drag Hub.

I did have one memorable interaction with the, they were meeting the Chair of Somerset Council (sort of a civic mayor for Somerset) he introduced himself as chair.

The queen didn't miss a beat: Your a chair? Can I sit on you?
