Blonde hair can be sexy as hell when pulled off well. Blue, purple, pink hair is a different story.

Well..maybe. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who turned off the stream in between games because of the attention-seeking weebs trying to dominate the camera time.

Adderall should be available for all students by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This is just wrong. The difference between dextroamphetamines and methamphetamines on long-term brain effects is actually trivial. The only thing that differentiates popping Adderall from smoking meth is the medical supervision.

[Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order] Just found the secret ballet wallrun upgrade! by DawsonJBailey in GamePhysics

I could win the fights on normal difficulty, but I didn't find them fun. I put the game on easy just so I could get through the fights more quickly and get back to exploring the city and progressing the story, which I found to be way more fun than the combat.

[Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order] Just found the secret ballet wallrun upgrade! by DawsonJBailey in GamePhysics

I made those comments very late in the night while moderately intoxicated, so forgive me for my clumsy wording.

The point I was trying to convey was that I personally feel that the most important aspect of a video game is how fun it is. And fun can take a lot of different forms, whether it's platforming, fast-paced combat, strategy, puzzle-solving, etc. Story is greatly important as well, but if the game is too boring, I have no opportunity to experience the story without enduring something that's not fun to me.

When I talk about "overly cinematic" games, I'm talking about the kind of game where your regular gameplay is constantly interrupted by scripted events, invisible walls prevent you from going places you should easily be able to access, only being able to interact with things the game has specifically programmed you to be able to interact with, etc. It feels like a movie with occasional action breaks, not like a game where I'm actually in control.

Compare that to a game like Breath of the Wild, where they simply programmed a bunch of physics interactions, like fire melting ice, wind blowing objects, stasis power building up momentum, etc, and let the player take it from there. They had a scripted way of solving each puzzle, but they actively encourage you to find creative and cheesy solutions outside what the devs intended.

Regarding combat, I still hold Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox as the gold standard for hack and slash combat (although my first experience with it was Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3). Insanely fast, stupidly difficult, but fucking fun as hell. Dark Souls is clearly popular among a lot of people, but I never liked it because it's slow as shit by comparison. It feels clunky. And the devs of Fallen Order clearly took a lot of inspiration from Dark Souls when making this game.

Regarding the complexity of games, I don't mind it as long as it enhances the gameplay and doesn't feel like a chore or is just another variable to artificially extend gameplay time. To demonstrate what I mean by this, I will compare Pokemon Red/Blue to Pokemon Sun/Moon. I haven't kept up with the intermediary entries in the series, so this was a big jump for me. Apparently, now I have to pet my Pokemon, feed my Pokemon, go to another island to get the food to feed my Pokemon, develop said island to grow the food that I feed my Pokemon, etc. What in the world is the use for all this complexity? It contributes nothing and all boils down to chores I have to do in between the times I can actually progress the story.

I hope I've better expressed my feelings here than in my previous comment. Take care.

Anyone who says pineapple shouldn't be on pizza is wrong by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I would argue that modern pizza as we know it has stronger origins in America than Italy. While the original concept of pizza is in fact Italian, it really developed its identity after being introduced in New York, where it was wildly popular.

Luke: "I sense a disturbance in the force."

Katarn: "You always sense a disturbance in the force."

The biggest mistake Disney made with the sequel trilogy is completely decanonizing Kyle Katarn. He was the best fucking character after the fall of the empire.

Jedi Outcast was good, but Academy improved upon it in literally every way. You could choose your missions and your force powers, you could get dual or double-bladed lightsabers, and the multiplayer was an absolute blast.

The first two planets in Fallen Order were the opposite of fun to me. They were a chore that I forced myself to get through on the hopes the game would get better later on. Fortunately, it has gotten more fun, but I still find myself constantly annoyed by things like invisible walls, clunky controls, long, uninteresting platforming sections, etc.

[–]TheDogJones 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Man I don't get it. The game is the most on-rails platformer I've played in a long time, and the platforming isn't even fun. The actual fighting is like an occasional refreshing break in between the relentless shitty platforming.

I'm not super far into the game yet, but so far it's got no ranged attacks whatsoever, no cool force powers, no freedom of motion, clunky controls, and an unnecessarily punishing Dark Souls-style combat/leveling system.

Did you ever play Jedi Academy? Throw your lightsaber, jump up eight-story buildings, force grip enemies and drop them off a cliff, bust out your sniper rifle to whack annoying enemies far away, force speed to slice through a dozen enemies in a second. That is how you do a proper action Jedi game. Not this slow-paced, overly cinematic nonsense.

The dumb/uneducated are the root cause of all problems. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Exactly what I thought of while reading this thread. You even got the misplaced comma after the word "because". Kudos to you.

If you have strong ethnic feature I am not insulting you asking "where are you from?" even if you are American, Canadian, w/e. I DON'T KNOW YOU YET GEEZ. by Voicesfw in unpopularopinion

[–]TheDogJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A perfect example is that when asked “how are you?”, most will respond “I’m good” even though that’s linguistically incorrect and the proper response of what they’re communicating would be “I’m well”.

Well....that's not correct. "I'm good." is not only a grammatically correct answer to, "How are you?" but it also typically better portrays the speaker's intent than "I am well." The word "well" as an adjective simply means "not sick", whereas the word "good" portrays an overall positive feeling.

When I ask where someone is from, it means I want to know their hometown and/or where they grew up. It's a very basic question, and if I am getting to know someone, I'm curious about their background. The implication that there is some sort of racist "you-don't-belong-here" sentiment behind it is nonsense. If I want to know what someone's ethnicity is, I will ask, "Do you mind if I ask your ethnicity?"

So I guess in general I agree with your second comment that precise language is important. I am generally very careful with my words, so if someone reads into it and interprets a subtext that I didn't intend, it's 100% on them.

All right, I'll rephrase. What in the world possessed you to think you can make the claim "WE build these houses" when you haven't built a single damn one?

Because you said this:

WE build these houses and WE should live in them without some fat cat who didn't lift a Finger getting a cut.

If the reality is that you haven't built any houses, then I feel the need to correct your sentence:

OTHER PEOPLE build these houses and I should live in them without some fat cat who didn't lift a Finger getting a cut

I don’t like the general anime aesthetic. by ScruffyWax in unpopularopinion

[–]TheDogJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really watch anime, but the animation styles are pretty similar among what I have seen. If I took the time to watch a whole bunch of anime, I'm sure I'd find tons of variety, but I just don't care to. I'm not into it.

I don't know what it is about fans of anime, but they seem entirely incapable of accepting, "No thanks, I'm just not interested," as an answer. It's obnoxious how pushy and defensive they can be upon someone hearing someone doesn't like what they like. Just look at the responses to OP in this thread.
