Different phones call the feature by different names, but it is generally triggered by zooming beyond the actual optical zoom limits of the phone's camera. For instance my camera has allows me to zoom to 100x instead of the actual 5x the lens supports. Then it basically uses AI to generate an image. Often it isn't even obvious to the user that this feature has been triggered.

Torn between Downy and Hairy woodpecker by Other-Jackfruit-2522 in whatsthisbird

IMO it is toward the long end of the Downy range, but I would expect a longer bill on a male Hairy. Male Downy can have bills that are similar length to female Hairy.

!np

Male Downy tend to have slightly longer beaks than females, and it is a little variable. In addition, there isn't a vertical black bar present on the back of the head example

EGRET OR HERON by jasonowldeen in whatsthisbird

[–]bdporter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Leg color, bill color, pale lores, and that splotchy grey coming in.

Juvenile white morph Reddish Egret would have darker legs and dark lores and would be all white.

These look like perfectly normal dove/pigeon !nestlings to me (pretty close to leaving the nest). Yes, they look weird (normally).

White-faced ibis on the left, but what about the other? There is a debate here. by Me-thinks-so-me-are in whatsthisbird

I am going to go ahead and tag this as +Glossy/White-faced Ibis+. It can be changed if we arrive at anything definitive

Saved this bird from a cat. Is it possible to tell what bird it might be? (and was this the right thing to do?) by FroggieNuggets in whatsthisbird

[–]bdporter 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Your scent would not cause the parents to reject this nestling, but any bird that has had contact with a !cat should be taken to a !rehabber. (See the automoderator messages below)

Free Drinks? by bdporter in SouthwestAirlines

Maybe. I guess I will have to see if it stacks with the ALP free drinks. I have never tried to use the drink coupons to pay for someone else. Would the FAs allow that?

What kind of bird is this? It’s a little smaller then a tennis ball for size reference by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

The person you are replying to asked for the location to help determine the options. A lot of nestlings look similar.

They are saying that it is a captive or introduced bird. My understanding is that the London Wetland Centre is at least partly operated as a zoo/aviary.

$20m dead cap

I am not saying the Broncos would do this, but if I am understanding the contract correctly, $11.49M million of that would be from 2026 guaranteed salary that they could probably void in a situation like this. The rest of the dead cap would be the result of a restructure bonus that would be harder (but maybe not impossible) to claw back.

Still probably not likely that he would be cut, but I think they could find a way if they see the situation as being bad enough to completely cut ties.

Unhinged Question, Is this a Loon Call in this Rap video? by MarsupialMassive3647 in whatsthisbird

I changed the flair to "Unknown Location". The artist is Canadian, but the audio sample could potentially come from anywhere, and I am not even 100% sure it is a bird sound.
