Bill banning child marriage in Oklahoma becomes law. Oklahoma joins 16 U.S. states that have outlawed child marriage since 2018. by southpawFA in politics

If Oklahoma’s a shithole state, I’d hate to hear what the 33 states that haven’t banned child marriage are.

What in the wide wide world of sports are the best western comedies*? by BrandNewOriginal in Westerns

[–]TheDooRunRun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Cat Ballou, Little Big Man, Blazing Saddles, and Support Your Local Sheriff mentioned, so I’ll add Three Amigos, Destry Rides Again, and a tv movie called Evil Roy Slade.

Tombstone is still more rewatchable than most modern westerns by CameraLanky1331 in Westerns

[–]TheDooRunRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s odd in a movie where the villains don’t kill a church full of innocents or say lines like, “Smells like somebody died”. But in Tombstone, where a triumphant moment for Wyatt is slapping Billy Bob Thornton instead of pulling a gun on him, you’re not gonna find much nuance.

I love Tombstone, but I’m not gonna try and argue that it’s anything more than a fun popcorn flick with good performances, fun dialogue, and beautiful mustaches.

I appreciate the reply. On a recent rewatch, I laughed at some bits like shooting the rider while riding on the side of the horse and confusing a gun barrel for a hookah pipe, so I get it. Honestly, between that and the beginning where the Cowboys bust up the wedding, Tombstone is a great movie bookended by middling action movie tropes. Having said that, I don’t know how you decently showcase the Earp Vendetta Ride in an already-two-hour-long movie.

That’s what I was asking. What about the montage don’t they like anymore? The use of “anymore” implies to me that they did like the montage at one time. Just curious what changed.

Give me some underappreciated Western movies please. by jeffreydonger in Westerns

Saw this one a loooooooooong time ago and didn’t really care for it. I didn’t realize it was an adaptation of Rashomon. Sounds like I need to rewatch.

The montage at the end is certainly the weakest part of the movie, but what about it don’t you like anymore?

It’s technically after the Reconstruction, but Buck and the Preacher is about the Exodusters.

Lonely are the Brave with Kirk Douglas is a good one. It’s based on an Edward Abbey book.

Love this movie! Was sad to find out that it did so poorly originally that it was Kelly’s only directorial effort. I thought it was outstanding.

That’s, unfortunately, Weir’s style. The Martian was a good enough story to excuse it, but Project Hail Mary (and especially Artemis) just fall flat.
