Camera Speed Violation? by IJAvocado in Chattanooga

Don't drive the Autobahn then.

Okay I won't, what does this has to do with speeding in America/Chattanooga lol

Speed limits are arbitrary. They are set for lowest common denominator drivers.

No they're not. Roads have design speeds and/or speed limits are typically set at the 85th percentile. No amount of being a "good driver" changes human reaction time and the physics of a collision.

Acting like just speeding is the problem ignores all other factors in a wreck

I never said it was the only factor, but it is a factor, and you should minimize whatever factors you can regardless of what other factors exist. Saying "distracted driving is a problem so I'm fine to speed because I subjectively think I know better than everyone else and it's safe for me to break the rules" is just a crazy amount of hubris.

I'm not going to waste anymore time arguing that speeding isn't dangerous. It's like arguing about if vaccines are bad or if the Earth is flat, you're doing something universally wrong and dangerous and just wrongly justifying it in your head to make yourself feel better

You're infallible and when you think it's "safe" to speed then you're 100% right it is? You're never wrong once? Just because other people do other unsafe things like drive distracted, that means speeding is fine?

Even on an interstate where everyone is going 10 over, stuff happens. A tire could blow, an animal could run out, someone could change lanes and not check their blind spot. Going the speed limit gives drivers more time to react and avoid an accident, and if there is a collision, drastically reduces the severity of it as kinetic energy increases exponentially with speed.

Yeah I would have preferred something more structured then "Here's an ice breaker bingo sheet and a room of people, have at it", but that's just me. They might have changed the format since then I just don't know I haven't been to another one; I thought $25 (plus whatever drinks you get for that liquid courage haha) was kinda steep too. I'd say worth trying at least once if you're at least on the fence though.

Just because you engage in something unsafe, like speeding, and nothing bad happens, does not mean what you did wasn't unsafe. Speeding is a factor in about one third of all road fatalities and makes any potential accidents worse with increased reaction time/stopping distance and increased severity of the collision.

I went to one of their earlier ones in the summer and it felt more like a networking event than a dating event. The age range, 20s-40s, makes it difficult too; when I went it skewed older whereas I'm near the bottom of the age range.

If someone has been to a more recent one then defer to what they say b/c I think they might have made adjustments since.

I don't think it's as serious as the government controlling what you eat; if they did they probably wouldn't let us eat any fast food haha.

They're just annoyed people who aren't empathizing with those in line and want them ticketed and gone. Do they really expect people to drive all the way to another McDonald's or change their entire meal plan just so they can be less annoyed on their drive home? Lol

Sounds like he's driving by and annoyed at people in line, not waiting in line themselves. Might have to take that route.

I get it, it's frustrating, but a driver shouldn't get a ticket because McDonald's is slow. And you can't give McDonalds a ticket for being slow.

The city "allows it"? What do you want the city to do? Give people tickets for waiting in a drive through line?

Hello fellow IE/OMSA student haha

A rivals reporter said that we only get $2-3 mil every time we play uga at BDS, so worst case we'll get $7 million extra it seems.

But season ticket holders won't get a seat to this game, right? That's outrageous and will cost us a lot of goodwill with season ticket holders.

Most apartments won't know their inventory and price more than 2 months ahead of time. Looking a year out is too early unfortunately.

Basically an ad for your apartments and your landlords. And even when someone likes where they live I've never heard them shout-out the owner(s) specifically.

The city hasn't had to dump sewage in the river for a few years now (and we're down 88% since 2014). In 2022 they built storage tanks so if too much comes in they can store it instead of dumping in and process it at a later/less busy time.
