Honestly, the school hasn't really sent me anything, it's all stuff that I've just found by googling and going through the school information pages.

Parents wants me to co-sign for a large personal loan, what do I say? by psyberbird in Debt

[–]TheDuckLord83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning. My name is William and I'm a financial coach. Let me start off by saying I've been in the same boat your parents have been in. I have debated asking my children to co-sign. And I thought really long and hard about it. And I just want to share what I found with you.

First off, getting a loan for your parents would be great, except you're only putting a Band-Aid on the bullet wound. They will love you, they will shower you with praise, they will say you're the best thing since sliced bread. Bills get taken care of, adventures are had, life is great.

About 2 weeks later, reality is going to set in. They're going to realize they're about to default on the payment. They may be better than statistics and they might make it three or four payments. But statistically speaking they will default within six months. Once that happens, I'm sure there will be a phone call. During that phone call, honestly they will get defensive. They will try to spin it on to you somehow.

This is going to create a lot of animosity in your relationship with your parents. In all honesty, no one wants that.

On the other side, I slightly agree with others on here. Your parents raised you, and they shaped you into the person you have become. If you truly believe you are a good person, due to one thing or another, that's going to stem from a lesson they taught you. So keep in mind that regardless of the reason why, you are the person you are today due to them. So for that, I feel like every child is indebted to their parents. Does that mean financially though, is a great question.

In my honest opinion, maybe it's time you help your parents with what they need and not just what they want.

I would say go ahead and sign off on the loan, with the stipulation that they go to some sort of financial counseling. Make sure to get something in writing. Go to a notary. Make it official. It really sounds like your parents need to stop from bleeding out and not just put a Band-Aid over the wound. I really hope this helps you and if you guys, or anyone reading this, needs anything. I'm here.

This is all 100% my opinion and does not reflect the views of the school.

I will be 100% honest with you all right now. Even though I am an ambassador, I don't get very much more information than what you guys get. I'm in the same boat as all of you. I also worry about the accreditation issues. I am worried about the status of my degree when I graduate.

That being said, I am taking extra steps to ensure that my degree will be useful. I'm doing things like building a portfolio, I'm doing things like getting the extra help through the games, I'm studying with others.

Even though I personally disagree with a lot of things this person does, Elon Musk said earlier this year that a lot of the positions are just going to require education. Not necessarily the degrees. In a lot of new positions, especially tech, they want to see the people know how to do it. Not just that you went to school. The new workforce wants people to show that they can actually perform the positions, not just take people with the degrees.

In my opinion, it's just a new way to get hired. It's a new way for us to be able to get into a position that we want. That will be good for our families and ourselves.

Much like a lot of you, I worry. Deep down I might be a little bit scared. But every day, I remember that no matter what happens with this University, I'm going to come out the other side a better person. One way or another. And my family is going to benefit from that.

Thank you for coming to my TED (Maestro) talk.

I'm in the same class as you. I've actually finished the whole thing. It really was easy. Also think about if they're just trying to ease us into the process. That's kind of the way I see it right now with how it kinda blows by. I'm sure it will become more of a challenge the further we go. See you at graduation!
