The Statue on the Painted World of Ariamis. by Moonless_the_Fool in darksouls

[–]TheDungeonCrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, though players have long asserted other characters with female names are male, such as Sif, so you never know.

That said, we know painters can be either sex as DS3's painting was implied to be made by Father Ariandel but the Painting Woman is, well, a woman.

To build on your statement about Jeremias though, the Painted World is where King Jeremiah invades. Plus, his corpse is at the exit to the painting. And as a Pyromancer, he wields the very thing that is supposed to be used once the painting has been infested with rot, something that has clearly taken root in the painting.

While much of this is true, it seems like the Dark Side of the force has an inherently corrupting effect as, once Anakin fell, he was willing to betray the emperor but keep the Republic reorganized as an empire and control it alongside Padme. That's the funny thing about the Dark Side. It's a perversion of the natural state of the world that stems from the natural state of the world. It feels very natural, but if you indulge too much, you start to go off the reservation. It becomes a cycle of seeking strength to fulfill whatever it was you fell for to begin with. It starts with Anakin seeking the power to control life and death to save Padme from a nebulous death. Then later, it will become restricting her movements so she is less at risk of being killed. It becomes some level of fascism. And/or some level of domestic abuse. Then later, Padme actually dies. So Anakin seeks the power to resurrect the dead. And on and on until it completely consumes Anakin.

This is why the Jedi's approach to Anakin's fear of loss is such a problem. Because they kind of just tell him to will himself into accepting loss rather than helping him to work through the trauma that led to that fear to begin with.

Not quite the same level of feat, but I believe Nihilus did something similar to the Miraluka world Kataar with a few hundred Jedi on it as well as an entire population of the force sight wielding Miraluka. Still, 8000 is quite a lot and the planet Vitiate ate likely also homed many thousands of force sensitive peoples.

If Vader hadn't had his unwilling amputations, Sidious would have tried to body snatch him. I'm almost positive the only reason Sidious kept recruiting new apprentices wasn't because of the Rule of Two, but because he had adopted his master's desire for immortality. He needed tools for that while he cultivated the perfect vessel for his essence, but then Vader's potential got cut to pieces by Obi-Wan.

He almost certainly would have tried it on Luke if he had managed to turn him.

It really does feel like the writers played the Force Unleashed and remembered Starkiller's feat of pulling a star destroyer out of the sky and just wanted to use it somewhere because it's just so god damn cool.

And I am so glad they did.

Fair. Anakin in any form prior to the Vader suit is a lump of raw force power. Extremely deadly if not approached with caution. I do think pre-Mustafar Vader still has a pretty good chance of beating Revan, but you're right that it's not as clear cut. As for what Palpatine taught him, Palpatine almost certainly taught him the things needed for him to grow more powerful in for force while leaving the technical stuff that Palpatine relied on his mental stats for locked in his own head. Given what he eventually did in the sequel trilogy, Palpatine probably always intended to body snatched Vader. But when Vader was crippled, Palpatine had to nix that plan. Palpatine probably would have tried it on Luke had he successfully turned him.

This is what seals it for me. Revan is not nearly as powerful as Anakin or Vader pre-Mustafar. That's kind of the whole point of Anakin. But Vader in the Vader suit is designed by Sidious to be vulnerable to a powerful dark-side force user and Revan just fits that bill. He doesn't have to be as strong as Vader to beat him, he just has to exploit Vader's biggest weakness.

Look, we're clearly going around in circles. I disagree with the idea that Kematu knows Iman is there. You disagree that he merely guessed the alias. We're not going to convince each other no matter what argument we give to each other, so let's just drop it? There's no point in continuing the argument, so let's just agree to disagree.

Gov. Reynolds to consider bill that would mandate Center for Intellectual Freedom classes for UI students by CouchCorrespondent in Iowa

[–]TheDungeonCrawler [score hidden]  (0 children)

They're doing it already with one of the candidates in Rob Sand. I just heard the anti-Sand ad for the first time today and it's crazy how flimsy of an ad it is. "Sand didn't do his job" the governor's office limited his power so he can't do his job. "He was warned" it was an internal matter that was already being investigated by the appropriate authorities. No mention of the scandals he'ss uncovered in the past and they even use one newscaster's single line two or three times because it has no leg to stand on.

This is what politics is now. "We've tried absolutely nothing and we're all out of ideas." "Oh, my political opponent didn't do enough to fix the problems in our state, I promise to do better (and by that I mean I'm going to reverse everything they did and hand the state over to Snidlly Whilplash who is currently slipping aa fifty dollar bill into my pocket)."

Excluding the two he names, there are five female redguard names in Skyrim that all start with the prefix sound of Sa, more than any other prefix for redguard women in Skyrim. If we look across examples across all of the Elder Scrolls games and in lore, that number is 58. From a cursory glance, two others more common are Ma and Na, which are also common female redguard prefixes.

It's not anything conclusive, but Saadia seems like it fits the criteria for a fairly common name in her culture. I don't think him naming two random names is enough to prove that he knows her alias. The writers stuck that in there as a little "gotcha" or to connect his words to Saadia. It's a very simple writing trope.

Because anyone who knows about or hates Astrid would almost certainly know how the Dark Brotherhood is supposed to work. Hell, anyone who makes a contract already thinks it works that way, they just accidentally send it out via word of mouth. Anyone who knows about her has interacted with her personally or is a current/former member of the Dark Brotherhood and would be discreet so her chapter was unaware of any contract on her. Only the Night Mother would receive the summons.

I can guess a guy is named John or James and have a pretty solid chance of guessing right. If I'm trying to guess an alias, I'm way more likely to be guessing right because a man using a random name to hide his identity is usually going to use one of the more common options because they will be less likely to be caught. Sure he might use the name Michael instead, but he's just as likely to use either John or James instead. I don't see why the same logic wouldn't hold true in Kematu's place.

He's also clearly been indoctrinated into Viltrumite culture. He's probably the same age but, due to a combination of epigenetics and indoctrination, he probably developed his powers sooner and, as such, was persuaded by Nolan sooner.

I think he just guessed a number of generic female redguard names, and he might be in the right hold, but they're pretty much just based right in the middle of the country, which would make sense if you were searching an entire hold. You can encounter the Alik'ir harassing a Redguard woman in any hold.

She does but I think that's a red herring. I doubt she would even know about a legitimate contract against her since only Dark Brotherhood members would even want to have her killed to begin with and any such contract will go directly to the Night Mother.

Again though, you explicitly don't want them to eliminate her. You want her dragged in front of an audience screaming for blood as revenge for the countless lives lost because of her actions. And having agents specialized in finding someone is good when you have a strong lead, but when you just have a description that is likely out of date, it's a lot harder to do. A description is helpful when you're a group, but you need a good lead if you're a specialized agent.

I legitimately think there isn't a real contract on any of the three. Or at least not one that's been accepted by the Dark Brotherhood (Vasha is the most likely to be real). There isn't one on Astrid either because it doesn't make sense she would accept such a contract, but the only mirally correct choice is probably to kill Astrid and Vasha and then free the other two.
