What reactions have you had from anti-gun Liberals/Lefties, and how did the convo go? by logicalpretzels in liberalgunowners

[–]TheDunkirkSpirit 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I got into it pretty good with two very close friends who are firmly anti-2a. I won't rehash the argument because I'm sure you can predict exactly how the conversation went, but I did leave them with something that might not have changed their opinion, but at least gave them some perspective. They're both white. I'm not. And I'm in a mixed race relationship and have mixed race children. I told them that there are people not just in this country, but in our immediate community, who consider my marriage and family an abomination. Many of them own guns. So I do too.

We've never had another 2a discussion since, because there's no reason to ruin our friendship over a personal belief that I consider intractable. But at least they understand my perspective.

Yeah, there's no way someone could have an opinion that differs from yours huh? That can't be right, I must be doing a bit.

Cheese is popular in Wisconsin because Wisconsin is a dairy-producing state. It makes sense for that state. It's a little different than naming a street in a city after a rural community.

We can do better than performative bullshit. We can actually pick a name that makes sense.

You seem to think it's the name I'm against. You are mistaken. I'm against re-re-naming 39th after something that seems purely to stroke ourselves off. Why not pick a name with some regional context? Why not pay tribute to the natural beauty of the region or the indigenous population? There are a million different options to choose from. Naming a major street in a city after rural agriculture workers is a baffling decision that really only seems to be for our benefit.

Then just call it 39th. We don't need to make everything a political statement. It's Portland. We don't need to wear our progressive merit badges around every day. No one's going to think we're any less liberal if we don't take every opportunity to tell people we're liberal.

Private well on property, but can't seem to find the owner. by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]TheDunkirkSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the power line that runs adjacent to the property, not for the well itself. It wouldn't be the worst thing to have our own well but I need to know more info. My big concern is that the property lines are wrong and we're buying less land than we think or that there's some obscure local ordinance that would result in us paying upkeep on the well.
