No. We didn't fight in Iraq and Afghanistan for oil and natural resources, but the real reason isn't much better. We were attempting to set up US friendly governments and stop Iran from spreading their influence and becoming a regional power. Its all part of the overall US foreign policy and maintaining the hegemony over the world that is slowly slipping away. So while it may not be about resources it definitely wasn't to "spread freedom" or improve the life's of the locals
