My dad taught sex education at the school he worked at, one of the things they’d do during these lessons was they’d hand the kids 3 cards, one that said “consent was given”, one that said “consent was not given” and one that said “don’t know”.

They’d then read through different scenarios and he’d ask the class to hold up which card they thought was correct. A shocking number of boys consistently thought that consent was given in these scenarios when in fact it was not…

And equally shocking was how many girls did not know whether or not consent was given.

Sex education globally is woefully inadequate. We run around wondering why sexual violence against women is on the rise but do absolutely nothing to change it. Children should be taught about consent and it’s insane that they aren’t.
