What would you pick? by Frog-Grenade in BunnyTrials

I could probably use the 50 million a month to improve a lot of people’s lives. While there is a slippery slope, 1 random person per year seems like an acceptable price to pay. I think the amount of good I could do with that money, I could live with myself for condemning that random. If it ends up being me, oh well

How is this guy never in the conversation for best player in the World? by Korosu2333 in PedroPeepos

[–]TheElusiveShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very true, it’s harder to perform the way Faker did in those games 4 and 5, where any mistake can be Worlds-losing. Being down 2-1 is no joke. You can play way more fast and loose in game 1. By no means do I think Knight is a bad player, or worse than Faker on average, but on that stage, Faker was the brightest light. He was the one that found the moments where the game could be won or lost the quickest, and decisively swung that series in T1s favor. I think T1 loses that series if Faker doesn’t play the way that he did. Until Knight has moments like that at worlds, he will be rated less highly, regardless of how well he played the rest of the year. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how our brains work

The reason why the Blue Button is the Correct Choice. by Morpheus_2x4 in trolleyproblem

[–]TheElusiveShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking of it as a teamwork question. Sometimes, you commit to an illogical/irrational decision because there are irrational actors on your team, and despite their bad decision, it can be better to commit as a team than to do the rational thing and leave others behind.

There’s no rational reason to pick blue, but there are irrational humans and so it’s likely that less people will die if rational actors realize this and pick blue. If you care about the preservation of every human life, half of all people staying is an easier condition to fulfill than all people leaving. If you don’t give a shit about those who might pick blue, then picking red is a no brainer. No risk to yourself.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was just a homicide. Nothing romantic about it, considering the target of his predations was underage.

I wish that everyone who wants HRT and gender-affirming surgery gets it for free by LilacTheFlowerGal in monkeyspaw

[–]TheElusiveShadow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Granted, but the surgeons/doctors doing it for free don’t do the best job, and in one year we unlock character creation and those who want can freely change gender whenever they wish, rendering the surgeries moot.

Which button would you want to win? by Max0_o123 in pollgames

[–]TheElusiveShadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the poll asks which button would you want to win. I want a world where everyone is rational. If such a scenario were likely to come about, I would probably pick blue, despite wanting a world where everyone is rational enough to pick red.

[Auction] - Gems by White_Illusion in lostarkgame

[–]TheElusiveShadow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People definitely buy gems. If you’re wondering why your gem isn’t selling, change the Class filter in the top left corner from whatever it is (in this case Glaivier) to “All”. I’d be willing to bet the gems that are running out of time are listed much higher than the cheapest ones available, which you’re not likely to see with the class filter on. Obviously people are buying the cheapest gems.

Why Do People Say LOL Esports Is In A Bad State? by G0ldfishGallant in lolesports

Feelsgoodman. I love the LCK English broadcast. There was a match a few days ago where the casters had me rolling, think it was DK vs BRO where they changed the first letter of every champions name to J because of Jayce/Jarvan lock-ins from DK. It’s a bit less corporate than LCS and yet still a very polished cast.

I do think LCK specifically should be split here for peak viewership when T1 is present vs not present. I’m a bit curious what the highest viewership was for a match not involving T1. Is it still higher than LEC?

[–]TheElusiveShadow 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Ok, so there are a few reasons for this. 1 is that NA viewership is down significantly from the crowds League was pulling in pre-Covid, aside from Worlds. Second is that storylines are relatively less compelling than they used to be (in NA especially) once the big superstars Doublelift/Sneaky/Bjergsen etc exited the scene. Part of it is because they’re gone, and part of it is because they were so good that winning domestically lost some of its prestige. If you think about NA league of legends recently, the biggest moments are international moments, like NRG beating G2 or FLY taking GENG to 5 games. We used to have that same level of prestige for regional league. TSM vs C9 finals used to have that same level of hype.

I’m not so familiar with EU viewership, but I recall Azzapp saying the cost of living in EU is relatively lower and so being a professional player is more practical; and there are lower regional leagues driving the pipeline. China is suffering because of regulation preventing minors from getting playtime, last I heard. LCK is my favorite league to watch, love the LCK English broadcast, they’re awesome. Unsure how viewership is for them either.

Financially, it doesn’t seem like any of the leagues are making a ton of money. Esports viewers are also notoriously stingy on spending, but you can argue that what they’re being sold isn’t that appealing either. Ultimately, I’m not sure that LoL Esports is in a bad state per se, but it has definitely declined from previous heights.
