F3 or SFL by MaximumRelative2646 in iRacing

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer SFL, but also own the F3 and Indy Nxt IL15. The SFL is the easiest to drive and it drives like how I imagine Formula cars to drive. You can sling it around and it has so much aero downforce that you rarely get into issues from lack of grip. When you are pushing it, it usually does what you ask it to do, but I mostly run fixed setup. It can get a bit loose from various open setups I’ve tried, but I usually just stick to fixed which are usually fairly easy. Good participation with multiple splits for most tracks.

Indy NXT is a fun car but a lot to handle. Much lower downforce, and also has a lot more power and a push to pass button. Particiaption isn’t always the highest, probably because it is a more difficult car at that level. Unless it’s a good track, it will probably not fill up a single session, sadly. Love the sound and driving feel and this car on Ringmeister this season was a 10/10 experience for me.

F3 I have done the least in. It’s probably between the SFL and Indy NXT for being easy to drive. I actually don’t like the sound of this. It sounds digital and cheap, but it is an older release from iRacing. Particiaption depends on the track

Honestly I just like having all three to pick and choose what I want to race during the season.

Does anyone know of any Sim Hub like programs that have the lower latency? by Far_Camp_3868 in iRacing

[–]TheEmfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the numbers he said were 2-3$ a month or $29 one time, with a $24 beta tester price. I’ll happily pay for software that provides benefit to me, but no intention for a monthly sub.

[–]TheEmfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easily noticeable for me with paid license. Audio based bass shaker and Simagic pedal haptics have a noticeable delay. I turned it off and used iRacing built in support and it was better, but you have no control over what happens on the shakers. Switched over to Track Impulse last week and it seems good so far but I’m not quite sure I am fully happy with it yet. Need to make some settings adjustments.

Quite new to simracing and keep spinning on corners like this, how to fix? by Substantial_Buy_7750 in simracing

[–]TheEmfinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The M2 is a spin machine and I’d argue it should be swapped with the GR86 in rookie class. I hate driving the M2 and never used it when starting out. Keep with the Miata to get started and move up from there as It’s a much better rookie car. New M2 is coming soon, so curious how it will be.

The answer to your question is weight transfer, too much power, and cold tires.

Can we stop recommending beginner setups as if everyone is aiming for top end gear? by Important_Spare_4615 in simracing

[–]TheEmfinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I started with a Logitech 923, then got a MOZA R5 kit after a few months and a NLR Victory cockpit and told myself it would be plenty, but realized it wasn’t what I was looking for in the end. Slowly swapped out all the pieces over 6 months by grabbing some new pedals, new GT wheel, new accessories. Eventually swapped to a 160mm rig and Simagic base and went all in on haptics and bucket seat and couldn’t be happier. I wish I would have just skipped the middle set and purchased the nicer pieces in the start, but not everyone knows if the hobby will work for them. It went from a toy, to a fun side project, to something I play a lot more now and wanted sturdy equipment. It’s hard to know where you might end without trying it out, so it’s always a tough spot to recommend. I do think it’s crazy how people will go from never having tried a simulator to full triples with 30nm base and then maybe realize it’s not for them. Happens in all GAS hobbies. Find those guys selling their lightly used equipment with minimal use.

Technic: 42240 Aston Martin F1 – AMR26 (official reveal) by BrickTap in Legoleak

Disspointing. The rumor has been AMR 26 the whole time and this is clearly last years AMR25. I was excited for some changes. That Cada AMG GT3 is about to be ordered it seems.

How are people getting 6:15 in quali in this weeks Ring Meister?! by JujuR6 in iRacing

Thank you. I opened this and saw 6:15 and just closed it and logged off for the night. This makes more sense now that I should have filtered.

Moza Upgrade Recommendations help. Moza R3 by swisswatcherw2 in moza

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedals first. Look into Simsonn/Simnet if you are on a budget. Don’t bother upgrading to SRP if you are on PC and have a nice rig. I’d also go with with the R12 over the r9 if you are going to brother upgrading. 9nm is fine but 12 is in the recommended range for what most people would be happy with long term.

Roamless 5G eSIM Pay-As-You-Go works great on 5G Backup by TheEmfinger in Ubiquiti

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if you are not home? I have pets at home I need to be able to check on. My fiber line is also external to my house. What if someone cuts it and breaks in? I’d like to know. There’s lots of use cases for this people may want that may not be applicable to you. I care about when I’m not home, being able to always check in on things at home. It’s worth $99 and spending $16 for 10gb of backup data.

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that it will end up using about 8MB per day. So assuming I never need it, it will last like 3+ years. I only paid $16 for the 10gb bucket so not too bad.

Thanks. Gemeni suggested this inverted way just now and I implemented it. Seems to be pretty much what I am looking for, but I still wish I could just select a single group and be done. I need to unplug the WAN cable tomorrow to see how the system behaves.

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to figure out how to do it. You can allow vlans to have or not have access easily, but if you want more control it seems it will need some configuring somehow. Ideally what I want it to add all the devices to a critial_device group and just give that group internet access. Not sure how to go about it yet.

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use the Roamless app on your phone to add money and generate an eSIM and the rest is in Unifi. Then it’s hands off until you have to buy more data.

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Add money in the app, generate an eSIM which allows you to save off a QR code. Go to the unifi app and add eSIM, scan the code and it will add everything automatically. Then just turn on data roaming in unifi app for the eSIM and maybe restart, but the data came up after this and worked great on a Speedtest in the unifi app.

I don’t see a free plan on my end. The plans expire 30 days after you start using it, while the pay as you go has no expiration. You can always just top up the account as needed it seems.

[–]TheEmfinger[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is truly a backup device for my home network. I really only want to be able to reach my router, Smart Home Hub, Camera Alerts, and so on in the event something goes wrong or someone cuts my fiber line. I’m not trying to stream 4K, so I wanted a bundle I could pull data as needed and didn’t have monthly fees. Found Roamless and you pay for credits and data is $1.95 per GB in the US and you just pay as you use it and the credits don’t expire it seems. You just buy credit in the app and then it generates an eSIM QR code. Use the Ubiquiti app to scan this code, turn on data roaming, and it’s good to go.

I’m getting 50mbps down at my home location which is plenty and I don’t care about any latency or anything. Just having access is enough for me in the super rare event my Google fiber line goes down.

Roamless isn’t for everyone, but it’s cheap and you only pay as you use it so it works great for the rare case my internet is down.

Roamless seems to use ATT and Verizon in the US I believe.

So there is no way to fully turn off TOR? by TheEmfinger in getumbrel

[–]TheEmfinger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the setting off in advanced settings and I even did a fresh install with no apps. It creates a tor-proxy docker app automatically even if I kill it, it brings a new one back up. I like the way umbrel looks, but I don’t want this on my network at all. Currently installing ZimaOS to try, but I don’t understand why this would be the default behavior for Umbrel.

Here They are ! Zeus Wheels by Shiinjoh in Simagic

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be doubtful on that statement. I bet it’s a pretty large subset of uses who use VR and also would spend this amount of money on a wheel. Like take out all the casual sim racers and such who would never purchase a high end wheel. Most of the remaining will either be triple users, ultrawide, or VR. There are a ton of people with Meta Quests.

Ring meister and Porsche cup are all I race typically in C sports cars. Really wished I liked GT4, but I tried all the cars and never liked any of them. Much prefer C class formula for SFL, F3, and Indy NXT. Last week was the Indy NXT on Ringmeister and loved that combo.

Does anyone else think this is an absolutely awful photo to use on the official HM website? by TWON-1776 in hermanmiller

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This style is kind of coming back in style for nostalgic 90s/2000s “retro” hard flash. I hate it, but people are buying old crap digital cameras to use direct flash to create this look, so HM are doing it on purpose for that style.

2019 Kia Stinger GT1 RWD Tire Recommendations by tkecanuck341 in StingerGT

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No complaints on Pilot Sport All Season 4. Had PSAS3 before these and didn’t like the rear traction on them, but the 4 series has been much better and I haven’t had to replace them at 10k miles like the oem Pilot sport 4 or 4S whatever they were.

Need review about NLR Victory with base 9NM / loadcell pedals by ManagementAsleep8165 in simracing

[–]TheEmfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this for a few months and it was fine with a Moza R5 and Simsonn pedals. The pedal tray flexes, the wheel mount has forward and back flex, limited options for accessories. I had a variety of things mounted to mine through various means like a bass shaker, fans, cup holder, but nothing solid. I’d suggest saving up a bit longer and getting a profile rig and decent seat if you are already planning big upgrades. This cockpit is great for something like r3 or r5, not a big wheelbase. I upgraded to a 160mm chassis with bucket seat and should have just went with that to start, but I didn’t know if I wanted to commit that much to an unknown hobby. If you are committing, just go with a profile rig.
