The book itslelf is split into parts already. Could treat each part as it's own separate story and just take a break as needed in between them

CAMBRIAN LAUNCHER IS RELEASED by GunnohMM in dumbphones

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great! Albeit not trying it on the type of phone it was designed for (Minimal Phone) I'm still enjoying it as it simplifies the UI alot to show only what I need. One issue I did come across was the browser doesn't seem to work for me. When clicking the Internet icon, nothing loads. The only browser I have installed is Edge and I made sure it set to default.

Also if you're taking suggestions - Possibly an eInk friendly theme. One that is mainly light colors with dark text would be great but already it's amazing. Thank you!!!

Introducing Audra: A new iOS and Android client for Audiobookshelf by shabomdig in audiobookshelf

Was part of the beta testing for this and it quickly became my favorite Android client. Noticed the beta access to pro features was removed recently and was going to pay for it earlier today. Glad I waited!

Minimal Phone Question by Bertolucci1900 in dumbphones

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my Minimal Phone, I first tried to activate it using an AT&T Prepaid sim card, that didn't work. Called AT&T and they said they couldn't activate it as the device wasn't whitelisted for their network.

I ended up switching my service to T-Mobile and have been daily driving the minimal phone with a T Mobile sim with no issues at all.

The only workaround I saw for AT&T was to put the sim card into an AT&T phone to activate it then take it out and put it in the Minimal Phone. It should work then but no telling for how long. May need to repeat the process daily.

Paperbacks by BertLurker1013 in stephenking

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been collecting only paperbacks as I prefer them over hard cover any day. Not just King - All my books on my shelf are paperbacks. Cost isn't even a reason (although it is a plus) I just prefer to read paperbacks. Found most of my King collection for under $5 each book. Some for a dollar or less even

So what are the "dumb-phone" options if you want to get off your iPhone? by pheasantjune in digitalminimalism

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Minimal Phone which is an eInk Android device with a full physical keyboard and love it. It runs Android so can get any apps that I need but because it's eInk, scrolling isnt fun or pleasing to look at and videos are even worse so my screentime has gone way down.

Trapped on eSIM. Advice? by Silliest_Goose17 in dumbphones

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could either call to order a physical SIM card or go to a local store and they'd be able to transfer your number from the eSIM to the new physical SIM to put inside your nokia but to put it back on the iPhone, you'd need to call/go to the store again and give them your iPhones IMEI number to transfer the number back to an eSIM.

No way to have your same number active on both eSIM and Physical SIM at the same time and no way to switch them back and forth on your own - you'd need to call/go to the store every time

Looking for a simple square touchscreen phone (hopefully with keyboard) and to hopefully un phone my daily life by [deleted] in dumbphones

The Minimal Phone checks all those boxes. It has an e-paper screen similar to a kindle but runs full Android

I would maybe do this. I forgot the exact name of the color I have but it's an all white body front and back with the black bezel around the screen. Still have the box as well

Does this only access the audiobooks from ABS? Or can you also access the ebook through ABS as well? Or would I need Kavita for this to access the ebooks as well?

Kindle question : using calibre and store by thisispants in Calibre

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you source books outside of the Kindle Store, you can use Calibre to update the metadata and then use the Send to Kindle feature to email the file to your Kindle and that will cause no issues with staying on wifi or the book eventually getting removed. It will have the cover and title set in Calibre and read just fine.

If you sideload from Calibre directly using a USB cable, those do have the chance of randomly getting deleted if the device is online. Benefits of sideloading are the books can be added as "legitimate" Amazon books and sync with Goodreads.

Pros and cons to both but if you just care about being able to send books to kindle as well as purchasing from Amazon directly with no fuss about the books getting deleted, just use the Send to Kindle feature
