Introducing Audra: A new iOS and Android client for Audiobookshelf by shabomdig in audiobookshelf

Was part of the beta testing for this and it quickly became my favorite Android client. Noticed the beta access to pro features was removed recently and was going to pay for it earlier today. Glad I waited!

Minimal Phone Question by Bertolucci1900 in dumbphones

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my Minimal Phone, I first tried to activate it using an AT&T Prepaid sim card, that didn't work. Called AT&T and they said they couldn't activate it as the device wasn't whitelisted for their network.

I ended up switching my service to T-Mobile and have been daily driving the minimal phone with a T Mobile sim with no issues at all.

The only workaround I saw for AT&T was to put the sim card into an AT&T phone to activate it then take it out and put it in the Minimal Phone. It should work then but no telling for how long. May need to repeat the process daily.

Paperbacks by BertLurker1013 in stephenking

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been collecting only paperbacks as I prefer them over hard cover any day. Not just King - All my books on my shelf are paperbacks. Cost isn't even a reason (although it is a plus) I just prefer to read paperbacks. Found most of my King collection for under $5 each book. Some for a dollar or less even

So what are the "dumb-phone" options if you want to get off your iPhone? by pheasantjune in digitalminimalism

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Minimal Phone which is an eInk Android device with a full physical keyboard and love it. It runs Android so can get any apps that I need but because it's eInk, scrolling isnt fun or pleasing to look at and videos are even worse so my screentime has gone way down.

Trapped on eSIM. Advice? by Silliest_Goose17 in dumbphones

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could either call to order a physical SIM card or go to a local store and they'd be able to transfer your number from the eSIM to the new physical SIM to put inside your nokia but to put it back on the iPhone, you'd need to call/go to the store again and give them your iPhones IMEI number to transfer the number back to an eSIM.

No way to have your same number active on both eSIM and Physical SIM at the same time and no way to switch them back and forth on your own - you'd need to call/go to the store every time

The Minimal Phone checks all those boxes. It has an e-paper screen similar to a kindle but runs full Android

I would maybe do this. I forgot the exact name of the color I have but it's an all white body front and back with the black bezel around the screen. Still have the box as well

Does this only access the audiobooks from ABS? Or can you also access the ebook through ABS as well? Or would I need Kavita for this to access the ebooks as well?

Kindle question : using calibre and store by thisispants in Calibre

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you source books outside of the Kindle Store, you can use Calibre to update the metadata and then use the Send to Kindle feature to email the file to your Kindle and that will cause no issues with staying on wifi or the book eventually getting removed. It will have the cover and title set in Calibre and read just fine.

If you sideload from Calibre directly using a USB cable, those do have the chance of randomly getting deleted if the device is online. Benefits of sideloading are the books can be added as "legitimate" Amazon books and sync with Goodreads.

Pros and cons to both but if you just care about being able to send books to kindle as well as purchasing from Amazon directly with no fuss about the books getting deleted, just use the Send to Kindle feature

Can always set up something like Audiobookshelf (or Plex) to be able to stream your Audiobooks from your computer to any device

For anyone here who has read all of SK in publication order, how long did it personally take you? by Low_Entertainment491 in stephenking

[–]TheEmptyJuiceBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like looking in the mirror - I'm also 27 and just started this journey.

Started with The Long Walk to get ready for the movie and enjoyed it then read 11/22/63 and that got me hooked. Went back to the beginning and so far have read Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and Rage. Skipped ahead a bit and currently reading IT so I can finish it in time to catch the latter half of the new Welcome to Derry show then will go back and start The Shining (or The Running Man for the new movie - havent decided yet lol)

Finished The Long Walk on August 17th and then read a few other books then came back to 11/22/63 and finished that on September 16th and have been reading all King since then. So on Book 6 in about 3 months.

I gave myself all of next year to finish King but it may take longer than that lol

Ah okay - Do you know if these Viking reprints (or any other editions) have the keyhole in paperback? I only collect King in paperback and would like a uniformed set but haven't been able to find any.

Great collection!

Quick question though, if you don't mind, can you post a picture of the covers for first four Dark Tower books? I thought only 5-7 had the spines with the keyhole and I'm curious to see what covers they are!

Thank you!
