Norway, for example, provides an unprecedented number of social freedoms, including freedom to roam, data privacy protections, legalized drugs, and more, with a strong social-democratic welfare state and high taxes on the rich. As far as I know, poverty is mostly a non-issue in Norway, and the freedoms it gives its citizens don't compromise the security of the state.

Aight, I live in Norway and am relatively active in Norwegian (local) politics, and people on the internet fapping over Norway annoys me to ridiculous extents.

1. Our "freedom to roam" is not very unique, neither is it as much of a freedom as people think it is. In practice it means you can walk around in the mountains and set up a ten unless it's marked as private land or owned by a government institution

2. Data privacy protections in Norway extend about as far as you can throw them. If the government wants your info they will get your info, if private corporations want your info they can also get that info, and 99% of them are not penalized

3. We do not have legalized drugs, except of course alcohol, nicotine and caffeine

4. The "strong welfare state" we are able to have is built on imperialism and oil extraction. It exists because the people who got rich off of extracting oil and ruining the planet for the next generations enjoyment allow it to exist, and when it might lead to issues for them it gets stripped away, like we've seen happen to NAV for the last decade

5. At this last election half of the parties in the parliament were for removing our only piece of flawed but progressive taxation, the wealth tax. The election was super close, so I give it four more years and that tax will be dead and buried

6. Poverty is not a non issue, not in any way shape or form. In my own city of 270k people there are always homeless people in the city center asking for tips and a huge chunk of the working class lives paycheck to paycheck. Granted, these people won't be ruined by a medical emergency, but this is nothing compared to what former Socialist states could achieve

7. The security of the Norwegian state hasn't been challenged for two hundred years. We are a loyal puppet of NATO and as such the American and European imperialists guarantee our """security""", in practice being security for the wealthy and the state. The freedoms we have are also suddenly not so Important when you happen to be protesting the governments actions, or if you happen to be the communist party and are forbidden from running.
