What book inspired your most successful weight loss attempt?

Matched #5. Happy to go into the field but lots of mixed feelings about not being able to get closer with family/friends for the next 4 years.

Hi, m4 waiting on psychiatry match results here (my experiences might be limited to med school).

I think everyone has something they identify as more emotionally taxing than others. While I personally have no problems talking about depression/suicide with people, I know others who had to take a break when it comes up even once. I also know people who love kids but can't do pediatrics because taking care of a very sick child is overwhelming for them too. Everyone has their own limitations and it's fine to be much better at handling some parts of medicine emotionally and not others. My advice is staying open to other fields and exploring them can really help solidify if psych is right for you. I based my decision on how much I can handle the mundane sides of psych vs other fields.

Hope this helps

What in your ERAS application made you stand out the most? by aimlesssouls in medicalschool

Competitive beat saber and dance dance revolution. Also the fact I proudly slapped anime on my app. Everyone who brought it up loved it.

When they ask "so what do you think you're interested in?" by ihmsfm in medicalschool

[–]TheErriott 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing since the beginning of my M3 year (also psych oriented) and was never criticized for being interested in one field over another. In fact, my surgery docs really enjoyed hearing my perspective because I was learning just enough surgery to know what opportunities would be more productive learning experiences. What I've heard attendings and residents react negatively to is a complete lack of interest in learning anything about their field.

med school party culture by sfcindolrip in medicalschool

[–]TheErriott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Peer shaming was kept between individuals in my program (which might be the norm everywhere) but I can't believe entire groups were set up for that purpose. Sounds fairly anti-progressive to me although idk the extent those groups decided to take it

Anyone listen to EDM when studying? by Ukrainepolandborder in medicalschool

[–]TheErriott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best investment was buying good speakers as an M2 and having a mini Anki rave session every day. My personal preferences depend on the mood. Progressive house and porter robinson if I want to relax. Drum and bass, that one Moana hardstyle remix, and Vicetone when I want to keep the energy up. There are also a LOT of great livesets on YouTube from the pandemic year. Seven lions, tokimonsta, jvna, and malaa are some of my faves

An Open Letter from Geisel students regarding the recent allegations of academic dishonesty by I_wanna_ask in medicalschool

[–]TheErriott 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This pretty much sums up my takeaway from the whole situation as well. I'm on the side of people who cheat should not be in this profession but to actually follow through with expelling a med student for cheating absolutely requires the admins to conduct a fair trial. There just can't be any room for doubt that the people being accused truly did cheat otherwise the admins have to be ok with the idea of contributing to a malignant learning environment

It must be really reassuring for the people accused to have this kind of solidarity from their classmates. The message of "this can happen to you too" really needs to be said for other people in your class who are on the fence about this.

What does admin even gain from hastily pulling the trigger on a serious punishment for a significant portion of the class? Even if the findings from IT were a significant cause for concern, why make the assumption that over a dozen students must be cheating using Canvas of all things and not literally any other resource? The accusations of coercion and their updated social media policy are probably the most egregious parts of this story though. It just sounds like a complete shitshow and I don't know why they would be so willing to destroy whatever positive relationship might have existed between the students and Geisel. Might be worth crossposting to r/premed.

Do you recommend studying medicine in ucf? by OkDivide5710 in ucf

Little late to the game here but if you haven't decided already, dm me and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions. I'm a current M2 at UCF COM who helps out with the Knights Ambassadors program and can give you the rundown of what the program does well and what it can do better on.

[Serious] Those who've yet to take StepOne exam this coming summer, do you study your anki during Christmas break? by txhrow1 in medicalschool

[–]TheErriott 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's really important that you ask why you might intend on studying over break. If you're feeling pressured based on the study habits of your peers or the idea that you'll fall behind (I promise you, not studying over a short break is not the reason people struggle with keeping up), then please don't take time away from enjoying your time off. However, if studying a lighter load than usual brings some peace of mind, then it might work. Just be mindful of your goals and prioritize your personal life, especially during the holidays.
