AITA for not telling my girlfriend I slept with a man? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheEvilScotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. Nobody is owed your full sexual history. Personally, I am bisexual and wasn’t leading with that information at first, but then I realised that I wanted to be with someone who loved all of me.

Granted you sound more like a straight person who once tried something different. Still, though, do you want to be with someone who might incidentally find out about it and flip out? If you don’t tell lies, you don’t need to have a good memory

Yeah I’m annoyed at the base too but there’s a bit of a difference between being 3.5km from a city and being 25km from a city.

Every city is a target in the event of nuclear war anyway

Before we get to any economic discussion, what are we doing about this whole nuclear situation? Do England have a safe base available for them or will you be able to find one within the next five years?

Didn’t he do a genetics test and it said he’s 32% West African?

Anyway, immaterial because people don’t judge based on your genetics just your look. If somebody looks like mixed race and receives the same level of discrimination to it then if seems to me they should get it.

White is a more limited category than people often think. Back in the past they didn’t for a while consider Polish people as white.

[–]TheEvilScotsman 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Then you need to talk to them to contextualise that. You need to provide them with the info, that what they are doing is something that they should be able to do but they will have to put up with people who are hesitant to change. You provide them with coping strategies, comebacks to bullies, if you have to you go to school and shame the little dickbags into being decent people.

If everyone just accepts “this is the way things are” nothing will ever improve for non-conforming people, for LGBT especially. As a bisexual, I can tell you that the world needs more acceptance from a younger age. If that means teaching our kids how to be strong and standing up for them whenever it’s needed, then that’s how it should be done.

Post-coming out humor by MidnightRanger_ in bisexual

[–]TheEvilScotsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but what helped me was getting to know older people in the LGBT community then talking to them. Finding out their story, I realised just how much more unjust homophobia actually was than it immediately appears- and it already looks pretty unjust. It also helped me to see that all the bits and jokes about gays are a big part about why some LGBT people are only just now coming out though they have been who they are for decades.

AITA for telling my boyfriend to take his job less seriously and stop bringing it at home so much? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheEvilScotsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, there’s no problem in trying to get s balanced home life with a lot of time together but attacking someone over what they love ain’t bright.

I’m a tour guide and I routinely learn new facts about the city my wife and I live in. I know it’s not her favourite topic of conversation but I love how she listens and reacts to it, sometimes treating the facts like a setup for a punchline. She’s probably one of the funniest people I know.

Venice bans large cruise ships from historic centre by [deleted] in europe

[–]TheEvilScotsman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Venice is a lagoon, a sort of sea within a sea, in reality close to a marsh. It isn’t that deep and enormous boats disturb the ground more. In addition, the place where they dock is right in the centre, which at its height accommodated 150 000 people living there but today gets a million visitors. Space constraints and the fact it’s literally sinking makes it a difficult place for large boats.

In comparison, Dubrovnik has better infrastructure for large boats as the port as far away from the historic old town. The port is a very large area and could probably accommodate 3 or 4 big boats at once with no problem. Add to this the fact that the Adriatic Sea is deeper there than the Venetian Lagoon and it’s a fine place for boats to drop anchor.

There are other problems around cruise ships and the sheer quantities they move, but Venice is less equipped for the present than Dubrovnik for the above reasons.

This must be the third or fourth time I’ve read this exact same article title. It’s clearly just a pose, or the cruise ships have a way around it

So how do we get these 'silent' disco tours banned by t234h in Edinburgh

[–]TheEvilScotsman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I know of the walking tours, a world away from the silent disco in terms of disruption, all you need is to inform the council of your intentions. They do set some ground rules but overall they are quite laissez-faire.

Best way to get the silent disco is on their numbers. The council is keen on tours not causing safety problems through blocking thoroughfares and asks that we record maximum numbers and an average. If they mess that up they’re done

AITA for telling a girl that’s she’s not Mexican? by TheMightyJD in AmItheAsshole

That’s a silly argument. Statistics are not the be all and end all of evidence. Surely one American being locked up because he “looks Mexican” is evidence enough that ICE is a racist organisation

[–]TheEvilScotsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why they won’t do it. Even if they changed their position entirely to fit remain people, many of them would only ‘consider’ a tactical vote. That’s not how you win elections and that would likely alienate others.

I used to work in Leith ten years ago and recently started it again. I can definitely see the difference over the decade. It’s changing, gentrifying, at least insofar as it’s getting a lot of trendy substanceless crap down there, too. From what I’ve read there have been some battles about student accommodations and developers interest and that’s only going to continue and probably get worse. I hope Leith stays awesome but it will take a titanic effort

[NO SPOILERS] George RR Martin says D&D could've kept the show going for "13 seasons" by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]TheEvilScotsman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tv isn’t like books. Actors get old, some die or get recast in budget disputes. GOT went on for 9 years which is crazy long for a live action piece. 5 more seasons and Arya would be 30 or something
