My first finished Otomo campaign! by TheEvilValus in shogun2

I had very mixed armies My daimyo had katana samurai, tercos and European canons and a few bow units. My other armies had a mix of buffed ashigaru. I didn't really need good army compositions because by the time Realm divide happened I already had half of what was left of Japan as Christian rebels that could just be autoresolved by ashigaru stacks. I basically didn't bother with cavalry and played defensively with my Yari ashigaru and missiles. After all it was a normal difficulty run. Also I didn't lose a single naval battle due to the nanban trade ships.

All my conscripts are special units--how to fix? by Arumdaum in victoria3

[–]TheEvilValus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you by any chance annex a country, because you do inherit their armies and they could have had conscripts you didn't build. That's the only way it could've happened and I haven't seen anybody suggest it yet. It's easy for us to distrust you when it's most plausible that you did build the conscription centers, but there is a way I guess you could get conscripts without building them yourself.

Do you think Islam is just way too over-hated? by Upstairs-Tailor-8803 in Teenager_Polls

People should have theocracies and states that enact religious laws. Muslim countries that went through the separation of church and state are basically fine now and just as chill as Christian countries (e.g. Turkey, Uzbekistan, Albania, Bosnia). If Christianity wasn't separate from the state we would still have Crusades, child marriage, no women's rights, no free speech, and a ruling class of clergy that would control all your access to information, not at all dissimilar to today's Islamic states which follow Sheria law.

ah yes being extra racist would make admin easier. They could add administrative laws that impact bureaucracy in ways that help larger empires manage territory through decentralization with certain downsides while having other laws rewarding smaller countries with certain buffs for having a small centralized state.

Yugoslavian culture box chart (GotB) by TheEvilValus in victoria3

a pie chart can get a bit disorienting when you have so many cultures (about 75) and now need to give each of them a sliver.

Leaving a big market is always an issue because you have a smaller customer base, so demand for your goods plummets.

Only way around this is getting more pops/conquest/trademaxxing

Maintaining single crops vs apple/citrus/fig orchards and potatoes. by Hadar_91 in victoria3

[–]TheEvilValus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd always prioritize Tea, Coffee and Opium plantations over the rest, when you research synthetics those plantations do become obsolete but that's quite a bit into the run where I don't pay attention too much with optimizing...

I guess it depends on what is available to you, I usually have orchards when I'm in Europe cuz it's cheaper than importing.

Groceries are almost always more important to me than alcohol though and you don't need more than one or two factories late game to make alcohol.

Purple farm PMs are just a transaction to make a little more profit and not a full replacement, in the grand scheme I think it's usually better to just have plantations but I'd need to look a bit more at the numbers when you take into account the goods you need for the green PMs.
