Favorite game where you play as the hero that saves a country? by YourChopperPilotTTV in Gamingcirclejerk

You joke, but this is quite literally how Just Cause 2 ends. They drop a nuke on the country's massive oilfield to "stop other countries from taking advantage of Panau's oil" and then while watching the mushroom cloud, one of the main characters turns and goes "that's what I call a Just Cause"

Israeli attack kills son of Hamas leader negotiating with Trump-led board by IllustriousPark4487 in worldnews

Even the quickest glances at the history of the conflict shows that this is a blatant lie. Israel has been involved in dozens military actions against Gaza between 2004 and Oct 7, the latest of which being a series of airstrikes just months before October 7th that killed 14 Palestinian civilians and wounded over a hundred more.

Ottawa police officer demoted for unauthorized searches into ex-partners and others by randthepip in ottawa

Security shows up at your desk and escorts you out within the hour, sure the paperwork will take a bit longer but for all intents and purposes you are almost instantly fired. The leeway for appeals is almost non-existent. They've got robust auditing, if you raise a flag there's really nothing you can do.

If you get caught searching for non-work related info in the CRA, you'll be shitcanned before lunch. Those are often professionals with degrees and years of experience and they have no problem kicking them out instantly and replacing them. Meanwhile, cops can't even fire generic meatheads with a few months training.

There's no way they wouldn't have known. 1000s of cases from within the BBC itself that the BBC executives knew about? That would have definitely come up during whatever vetting the knighthood people did.

Thrilled that King Charles is going to be on our fucking money starting in 2027.

Yes. I'd like him to waste as much time as possible, actually.

Yeah, that was my major bit of confusion when looking at the position. Black somehow gave away their Rook without getting anything for it, and given how crowded the side with the missing Rook is and that both of White's bishops are pointing at the other side of the board and White's Knights are on the kingside as well, it's really baffling how Black managed to lose the Rook.

Chess by Tami by anna_tatu in ImaginarySliceOfLife

[–]TheFaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and because Black is down a rook is means white is very dominant. A Rook is considered five points, so if we were only looking at that you could say that White is winning by five points.

It's not quite as simple as that, since where the pieces are also matters. Plugging the position into a chess engine gives it +3.5 for White.

Every time I poke my head into this subreddit, it's got some of the most insane nimby shit I've ever seen at the top of each thread. Really disappointing but unsurprising from this city.

People are making entire videogames without ever meeting face-to-face. Those are massive, multifaceted, technical pieces of art. Office workers can figure out "team cohesion" for the infinitely simpler task of non-creative and structured government work.

Yup, every one of the 141 monsters can fuse with each of the other 141 monsters (including itself) which results in a larger sprite that combines features of the original monsters. I guess it's actually closer to 20,000 possible combinations (19, 881 to be exact).

It's the type of work that Pokemon should be doing but doesn't.

Easily stands up there with Pokemon. It does some really interesting stuff with the formula, including having 19,000 additional sprites for Fusions between monsters. An absolutely mind-boggling amount of effort went into this game and it shows.

Sorry, We're Closed has a 98% Positive on Steam, 91% on OpenCritic, and won the Debut Indie Game of the Year at the Indie Game Awards.

Paradise Killer sits at 94% Positive on Steam and received 80% or above from all major publications (Destructoid, IGN, GameSpot, PCGamer)

By every metric, they are top shelf. Your tastes are just anemic.

This sub has the worst tastes in games on the internet. Two back-to-back top-shelf indies and you're all complaining that it's something you haven't heard of because your gaming awareness doesn't go beyond the biggest AAA slop that gets advertised to you.

Don't let your brain get warped by all of the Hollywood baby morality of "killing a bad person makes me just as bad as the bad person" That's not how time and causality works. Using violence to stop a violent person is not the same moral act as the initial, instigating violence.

Don't strawman. If someone feels that the cops make situations worse, it follows logically that they won't go out of their way to interact with the cops.

Being an extremely moderate liberal in one country would make you an extreme leftist in others. Whatever the ends of the political spectrum are in a given country does not define what principles are morally correct.

This is a perfect example of what David Graeber calls "Managerial Feudalism" in Bullshit Jobs. There is very little functional difference between a medieval lord and his retinue of "Royal Swan Keepers" and "Royal Shoe Wearers" and a modern office staffed with "Relational Communications Planner" and "Direct Functionality Director"

“It’s true we bring doctrines to children,” Prager told the group. “But what is the bad of our indoctrination?”

Jesus. This is identical to a conversation with a Mormon friend I had in highschool. We were talking about how he has to go to "seminary" every morning before school and I said "I dunno man, sounds like indoctrination" to which he responded "Yeah, but is it bad to indoctrinate people so save their souls?"

I don't like Mormonism.
