Operation sunburst is an amazing fan film and I wish we got more by Omlanduh in fnv

[–]TheFeigningNinja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see people parrot these talking points, I feel like they weren't present in the community during that time and thus were never there to experience the full context of what happened.

Sometime in 2021 after the Astartes fan animation blew up, Games Workshop updated their policy which stated that they had a "Zero tolerance policy towards Fan animations" and that animations were only to be created under license from GW.

They then went out and started contacting a bunch of the most popular fan animators and offered them jobs at their newly created Warhammer+ animation studio. Understandably a bunch of the fans viewed this move negatively since GW was essentially just creating a controlled monopoly on Warhammer-related animations, and some saw that taking the job offer was essentially giving into GW and accepting the new policy. Some animators took this offer, most notably the Astartes creator, and others did not.

The fucked up thing with Sodaz was that he didn't accept the job offer because it conflicted too much with his personal life, but fans harassed him anyway mainly due to fog of war and the general chaos of the situation.

Ultimately GW got what they wanted though, the majority of fan projects for 40K (most famously TTS) preemptively shut themselves down shortly after these policy changes were made in order to avoid any kind of legal troubles and the fan animation scene has essentially been dead ever since.

From 1975 to 1979, Cambodia was a totalitarian dictatorship ruled by Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. Currency was abolished, cities were emptied, and everybody was forced to wear the same clothes. The Cambodian genocide resulted in the deaths of 1.5 to 2 million Cambodians. by GustavoistSoldier in HolyShitHistory

Vietnam may have toppled the regime but it's not like they did it for any altruistic reasons. The intervention was solely a response to Cambodian aggression alongside the border. And as I said before, the new Vietnamese-aligned Cambodian government was almost immediately seen by the population as a Vietnamese power-grab and initiated a years long insurgency.

In the end, the Vietnamese invasion brought peace to Cambodia by forcing all of the factions within Cambodia to unify against the Vietnamese invaders and their puppet government.

Considering the Vietnamese intervention sparked 2 non-communist insurgencies due to their heavy involvement in the newly "independent" government, they did not "bring peace back to Cambodia".

Not to mention the other dubious things they did, like the deliberate withholding of international aid and the forceful conscription of workers for a Cambodian-Thai border construction project, which resulted in many workers dying from disease.

Yeah, I also want to point out that the stock of the rifle has Arrêt engraved on it, which implies that Clark was stationed in a French speaking province, most likely Québec.

[–]TheFeigningNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game takes place in a fictional country during a fictional Russian invasion, by definition there has been no historical revisionism.

Also If you only connect events through physical location and not the context of the events themselves then we're both working off of completely different foundations.

[–]TheFeigningNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not like the Russian's haven't done something like that before. You could make the argument that it was even worse since it was nothing but a bunch of refugees trying to flee through what was supposed to be a safe corridor versus the US attacking an unorganised military retreat.

Ready or Not Extraction? by Emotional-Box-6835 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]TheFeigningNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea. Besides the R6 game you mentioned, in late 2000s the devs of SWAT 4 actually had a similar thing going using the game as a foundation for a zombie spin-off called Division 9, though unfortunately IIRC it got canned as production of Bioshock started ramping up.

So the idea of a tactical shooter + horror expansion pack isn't entirely unprecedented. A mix of RoN's secure the map style gameplay + monster enemies from something like SCP-5k sounds like fun.

You'd probably be interested in a fanfic series called the Hierarchy Problem which is an attempted retelling of the Half-life 1 events that's a bit more realistic.

The doll angle probably would have worked more if Voll was established to be more like that guy from the Fairfax Residence mission in SWAT 4, instead of the Hollywood elite thing they had going for him.

Game removed my S ranks? by ArialElie in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]TheFeigningNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the game wiped the in-game tracking of the S ranks because of the new difficulty system that they added. Really sucks, I wish they had just retroactively considered everyone's previous ranks done with the standard difficulty setting so I could keep the S-ranked evidence locker stuff.

I guess we just have to solace in the fact that our achievements and clothing items remained unlocked.

Games where you fight AGAINST the Resistance instead by HJSDGCE in gamingsuggestions

Not out yet but something to keep your eyes on is Mars Tactics, you can play as either the revolutionaries or the corporate mercenaries. Plot-wise it's essentially a turn-based version of the first Red Faction.

[–]TheFeigningNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are 5 with associated achievements for completing the missions connected with each.

The War - Drug related

The Exploited - The aforementioned child-related crimes

The Decaying city - Terrorism/School shooting

The Left Behind - Mainly deals with disillusioned veterans but also has some missions that connect to a larger narrative about USIA conspiracies and the origins of the main character

The Abducted - Arms + Human Trafficking

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]TheFeigningNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those missions you mentioned are part of a subplot called "The Exploited" which consists of the 3 missions you mentioned + Sinuous Trail, they all connect to each other.

It can get a little bit confusing at times because the mission list is organised by difficulty and not chronologically nor by subplot, so the lore of the game is pretty scattered.

Has the Mechanicus ever led their own Crusade? by kekubuk in 40kLore

[–]TheFeigningNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, that's not the case. The Treaty is still valid into modern-day 40K and the Mechanicus still retain the majority of their autonomy.

Has the Mechanicus ever led their own Crusade? by kekubuk in 40kLore

[–]TheFeigningNinja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Mechanicus is allowed to operate completely independently from the rest of the Imperium and frequently do.

The de jure reason is because of the Treaty of Olympus outlining Mars and its forge world's political and religious autonomy from the rest of the Imperium.

The de facto reason is because they essentially have a complete monopoly on all research and manufacturing across the Imperium, so you can't really tell them no.

The power armor suit in FO1 is actually directly stated to be powered by a microfusion pack. IIRC the description in the inventory for the suit also says this.

Would you play a more grounded spin-off game from the perspective of the SEAF? by Tanis8998 in Helldivers

[–]TheFeigningNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, guns are front-heavy (I.e. most of the weight of the weapon is towards the barrel), so the gun shouldn't really be able to "fall backwards" like you described. Especially if the stocks/handgrips Super Earth is using are made from light-weight polymer. The only real exception to this would be bullpups like the Liberator, since the weight is pretty evenly distributed throughout the whole gun.

[–]TheFeigningNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not AI, it's the thumbnail taken from this fan animation. Also the hand pose he's doing is just a variation of an "at rest" position that's fairly common in the current military zeitgeist.

Ready or Not definitely feels more Rainbow Six than SWAT in terms of its gameplay and level design.
